2025 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy | Aug 1-4

Pairs SP results
1) Zhang/Wang
2) Gamez/Korovin
3) Ryom/Han
Judges scores are not up yet.
Everyone skated clean. I think Gamez underrotated her jump.

Oh, damn it! I have missed Senior Women and Pairs SPs completely and the first 13 skaters in Junior Women Free Skate. But thanks for informing.

Does anyone know if they archive these streams anywhere on the qq website so it can be watched later? The time difference is bad for me.

Ryom/Han's Free Skate is way better than their Short. The music reminds me of Rain, In Your Black Eyes at points, but it's a different piece of music altogether. The twist was dicey and the sbs jumps only doubles, but the throws look much better at this point in the season than at this time (actually even later in the season) last year.

Malaguena is a good choice for Gamez/Korovin, I think. No luck on the throws today, or on the side-by-side jumps. They have a lot of good qualities, like their twist, but their success is limited by Isabella's jumping potential (and yes, there are other jump-challenged teams, but those that have seen some success at least have a triple and a 2A, even if they don't always land it).

Zhang/Huang - Only one word: Wow.
Of course, they aren't the most mature team in terms of performance, but this is a difficult program, lots of unique transitions, and they skated it cleanly, without as much as a falter (except for maybe on the death spiral). It's a gentle program, one that allows them to shine.

I hope that whatever happens with the Olympics, they can be proud of themselves for performances like this.

NB: Day 4 competitions - schedule updates https://phsuresults.org/asiaop2025/index.htm

For competitions on Day 4 (Aug 4), there's a change in the schedule, so that the pairs' FS will be first, followed by Jr men SP, and then Sr. men SP (not sure if it was because of the troubles in the rink...)

Thank you for the heads up.  :points:

The table in the OP has now been amended to reflect this.

I wonder why they changed the order the competitions were in. My guess would be that one of the Pairs partnerships could only get a flight home tonight, and it would have been too tight for them to get to the airport in time if the FS had remained starting at 17:14:40.

If this was the case, may I congratulate the organisers for being so accommodating and flexible.

Of course, all the Men's skaters competing today will have had to change their plans and preparations, as they will now have longer to wait before they do their SP's. So, I hope that the change of schedule doesn't lead to more cactusitis than normal.

Thank you again for the info.

Jiarui Li's new SP is great, love the split jump to start off the program. The landing on the 3Lz was a bit iffy, so "only" 3Lz+2T, but he still goes into second.

Never know what to expect with the North Korean skaters - This sounds like a very funky version of Believer. Shame about the popped Loop, he just seems a bit wild in the way he approaches jumps. Will we see him on the JGP? I'm guessing not. Both JGPs with spots for North Korea are in Europe and so is Jr Worlds.

No matter which country they represent, you cannot take the Canadian out of some skaters. Bit of a fumble on the 3Lo but otherwise a good international debut for Louie.

Here's to hoping that this young man can make it to the JGP and Jr Worlds this season. Hiro got injured early on last year, but looks to be back to pre-injury form now. Really well done.

Zhang/Huang's Free Skate:

I missed that he popped the 3S, but otherwise an amazing skate.

I understand they moved the schedule around because the Zamboni broke, and the venue was manually resurfacing the ice. Pairs was moved first in the day because the ice was most dangerous for them and for all skaters which caused the delays yesterday.

I’m surprised they actually moved forward with the event given the ice conditions today. I’m thankful all pairs came out safely from the event especially with lifts so that has to be stressful for the teams that competed.

oops! Posted twice

Zhang/Huang's Free Skate:

An amazing skate for Zhang/Huang! I wonder if they are still in the running for that one Olympic spot. We'll have to see how Sui/Han do on their first outing.

They also lost levels on their lifts. Not a good outing for them. I love this new music tho.
