Well, we know where the design for Kristina's dress came from. It looks great. But, where's the top hat?

Allesandro wearing black, but with a single red stripe on the right hand side of the top.

What is this re-mix of "That Don't Impress Me Much?" It doesn't impress me!

But, on the whole, I loved it. (Of course I do - it's Shania!)

They're not going to trouble the top skaters, but they should be pleased.

They go into 4th position.

This year's theme is the 90's. But, I was getting such an 80's vibe from that programme. The music, the costumes, everything.

And then I looked at when the songs were released - 1990. So, I was right in thinking they were from the 80's (1981 to 1990).

Sorry Samantha, I don't like your dress. The colours are nice, but the pattern isn't. I preferred Daniel's costume.

They go into 3rd position.

Is this a common English language thing to call the 80s -81-90 ?
In French, the 80s, les années 80, are really meant to be 80-89

More to the point : the following of a song. Violator, Depeche Mode's album was immensely popular and lasted much longer than its release date of March 90. It was still hyper popular in 92-93 for instance. Release dates, especially in the era before internet, youtube etc can be seen as much later because it was "slower" releases versus right now, as everything can be launched instantly worldwide

True, and if a team reaches that standard - then they'll know, without a doubt, to their dying days - that they EARNED it. She's my favorite dance caller.

Judy cuts slack to no one. I once said that if Torvill and Dean were skating in their prime, and Judy Bloomberg saw a Level 2 step sequence, she'd call it as such without hesitation.
As long as she is consistent with everyone, I don't care. I sometimes have felt she favoured a certain american team :)

I certainly consider the 80s to mean 80-89. Maybe it's different in the UK?

I don't know. It's not a thing I've ever thought of asking anybody. But, I always think of decades the same way as you count on your fingers - starting at 1 and going to 10.

It might just be me being odd. Or pedantic.

That is actually a very good point. The longevity of the popularity of a song may not stick within a particular date range. So, yeah, we'll let them off.

No, you are wrong here. She is an absolute stickler, and she does not care. People don't like it when she's the caller at US Nats because she's just as brutal there, and of course that's not the vibe USFSA wants (apparently). Everyone is called consistently to her very high standards.

Gah. Too bad about twizzle stumble from Gaukhar NAURYZOVA / Boyisangur DATIEV

Not just you but not the majority.

0-to-9 decade

The most widely used method for denominating decades is to group years based on their shared tens digit, from a year ending in a 0 to a year ending in a 9 – for example, the period from 1960 to 1969 is the 1960s, and the period from 1970 to 1979 is the 1970s. Sometimes, only the tens part is mentioned ('60s or sixties, and '70s or seventies), although this may leave it ambiguous as to which century is meant. However, this method of grouping decades cannot be applied to the decade immediately preceding AD 10, because there was no year zero in the Anno Domini (AD) calendar year system.
Referring to ten-year periods as decades in this way only became common in the late 19th century.[2] Particularly in the 20th century, 0-to-9 decades came to be referred to with associated nicknames, such as the "Roaring Twenties" (1920s), the "Warring Forties" (1940s), and the "Swinging Sixties" (1960s). This practice is occasionally also applied to decades of earlier centuries; for example, referencing the 1890s as the "Gay Nineties" or "Naughty Nineties".

1-to-0 decade

A rarer approach groups years from the beginning of the AD calendar era to produce successive decades from a year ending in a 1 to a year ending in a 0, with the years 1–10 described as "the 1st decade", years 11–20 "the 2nd decade", and so on; later decades are more usually described as 'the st, nd, rd, or th decade of the st, nd, rd, or th century' (using the strict interpretation of 'century').[a] For example, "the second decad of the 12th. Cent." [sic];[3] "The last decade of that century";[4] "1st decade of the 16th century";[5] "third decade of the 16th century";[6] "the first decade of the 18th century".[7] This decade grouping may also be identified explicitly; for example, "1961–1970";[8] "2001–2010";[9] "2021–2030".[10] The BC calendar era ended with the year 1 BC and the AD calendar era began the following year, AD 1. There was no year 0.
Year 1 2 3 ... 9 10 11 12 ... 19 20 ... 2000 2001 2002 ... 2009 2010 2011 2012 ... 2019 2020 2021 2022 ... 2029 2030

Usage methods compared

Public usage of the two methods

A YouGov poll was conducted on December 2, 2019, asking 13,582 adults in the United States, "When do you think the next decade will begin and end?" Results showed that 64% answered that "the next decade" would begin on January 1, 2020, and end on December 31, 2029 (0-to-9 method); 17% answered that "the next decade" would begin on January 1, 2021, and end on December 31, 2030 (1-to-0 method); 19% replied that they did not know.[11]

Great to hear. I am happy to be wrong in such instances :)
