2025 Skate to Milano Women's Short Program

I think she'll do some comps to maintain shape, but she won't have the usual pressure to place, except against the other candidate, Gorbacheva. A pretty weird situation, almost artificial, and much easier than other Eteri girls had during olympic seasons. Her priority is to stay healthy and avoid anything precarious, but she seems to handle pressure well.
There will be no pressure against Gorbacheva. If she qualifies, the spot is her, with no AIN replacements or substitutes possible. Because you know, this is an individual athlete spot, not country spot. This also means if she has to withdraw or the concept of AIN is dropped for whatever reasons may occur until February, the spot goes to 6th best girl at this event. So if she qualifies, they may wrap her in bubble wrap and let out only for training sessions.

The fact that some of you think a 68 is "harsh" for someone making their senior international debut after 5 years away is crazy :no3: just be happy she's in 1st (which I do think was deserved), they could have been a lot "harsher." I do think Loena was overscored, but the scoring bonus she received here is no different than what the Eteri girls were getting for years.

She might not have the opportunity to do a lot of competitions, but as a general plan of attack I think the best strategy (health and burn-out conditions permitting) is to take on as many challenges as possible, beat everybody in sight, run up the score every time out, and then when the Olympics rolls around the opposition will be shaking in their boots. And the judges will be primed as well.

Leading up to the 2014 Olympics Yuzuru Hanyu suddenly appeared (out of nowhere unless who were a Japanese skating fan), won a bunch of stuff while setting world record scores (for example the grand prix final where he knocked off the presumed Olympic favorite Patrick Chan) and turned the Olympics upside down. The next time around it was Nathan Chen. Not particularly well-regarded outside of America, in the 2017 fall season he took on on everybody, including Hanyu at Rostelom and Uno ay the GP final. Suddenly it was all there for his taking.

(At the actual Olympics his plan didn't work out due to a disastrous short program, but at least he put himself in the best possible position going in.)

Loena put her hand down on the ice after a 3F+3T and got -0.98 GOE.
A senior male put his hand down on the ice after a 4 Lutz and got -0.99. GOE

Man, she got overscored on that sucker.

As for PCS, she got 32.53. Far beneath the norm for her in a SP which is around 35.

Given that she can't compete at any more international competitions until the Olympics, your plan is quite flawed. The international judges aren't suddenly going to increase her score by like, 10+ points just because she's getting that domestically (as evidenced by the fact that she would have gotten like, 75 with this skate in a domestic comp)

Do we know if Petrosyan is going to attempt quads here? It doesn't really make sense to risk it
Definitely not. Though it wouldnt be a big risk if she were in shape. I think she just doesn't have them now.

No chance of quads. The goal is to finish top 5. She likely only needs another 110 to qualify.

I don't think she will take part in another competition until the Olympics, so will start restoring the ultra-c in another month.
I would be absolutely baffled if she doesn't take part in the RGP.

hahahaha r****t it is
I would post a link for him but thats not allowed. Its best to play it safe, not even mention the underworld if you understand.

Competing there puts her in a lot of situations where she may become disqualified by association.
I don't think so TBH. If competing at national events was disaqualifiable then, she wouldn't have gotten AIN status to begin with, since she has been competing there this entire time... I think if there is a special clause post-neutrality on sitting out domestic events they will make that explicit.

I wonder if the quad is necessary or not at this Olympic ? I was suddenly thinking today that Adelia could win the Olympic without quad and just with a clean SP and FS like Alysa Liu did at world in Boston.

That would be a terrible gamble. I think Kaori would sweep her on PCS and GOE. Although Kaori was inconsistent last season and I cant remember the last time Adeliia fell on non ultra-c. We have a couple wildcards training 3A internationally as well though you never know what sort of scores they might rack up. Her 4T/3A were consistent she definitely needs them to be comfortable for gold

If Adelia wants gold, she needs at least 2 quads, but it's gonna be a gamble still, because they'll butcher her in GOE and components. So, if she wants to be sure, she needs 3A in SP also.

Nah 2 ultra-c is easily enough. The PCS/GOE was not that bad today. If she was clean with a 3A she'd score over Kaori or at least equal, then you'd just need one quad in the FS realistically. Or nothing in the SP and 2 quads in the FS. It would be comfortable. Even one quad could be enough if shes clean everywhere. Its not like Kaori is always perfect either.

Politicking will be too strong at Olympics. Just remember how they butchered Gubanova the last time to prop American girls.
Anna won comfortably with 2 quads, but Adelia won't be a reigning WC with a lot of reputation and top-1 ISU rank. So, technically, if Adelia will be flawless, she may win with just 2 quads, but I doubt that she will be flawless as she has always been prone to unforced mistakes and needs a safety cushion.

I hope Petrosian does pull out all the stops and go for the quads, What's to lose? Even if she makes mistakes she'll still finish in the top five.

But if she lands a quad or two, that could strike a dagger into the hearts of her expected rivals at the Olympics and establish herself as the clear front-runner.

The Olympics are 5 months away. Whatever happens now, basically pre-season, doesn't confer to what will happen then. She doesn't need to put that pressure on herself.

Slutskaya, Valieva and Lipnitskaia were also frontrunners prior to their Olympic individual events. And the pressure got to them.

Right now Petrosian just needs to land her base content. This isn't a statement competition - going for quads and falling all over the place but getting the spot delegitimizes her more than the benefit of going for and landing the quads and put other competitiors on notice for a competition that is still quite far away in the grand scheme of things.

Yes, the stakes are high, but let's not pretend like she's facing any real pressure here (the 5th place skater from Cyprus with basically maxed out difficulty didn't even clear 60) or needs to skate to her full potential.

Agreed. They kind of buried Vika, though..
That "Bela-" makes a difference. In the combo I actually thought her lutz was more q and her toe was more <. This is my first time seeing her (never watched her when she competed years ago) - pleasant skater overall, but she does lack extension, expression and intensity (especially for a program like Besame Mucho), and was standing up a lot and needs to get more into her knees/edges.
