2025-26 Japanese Pairs and Ice Dance

I noticed that Miyu Yunoki and Tristan Taylor are on the entry list for Sask Skate in October (3-5) - https://skatecanadasaskatchewan.com/userdata/files/550/Sask Skate/2025/Entries 08.11.25.pdf

They don't have a club listed, it's also a week before Canadian Thanksgiving so I'm inclined to think it's getting a competition in while visiting family.
I was wrong. It turns out that they are actually switching to Canada.

We don't have confirmation of which country they'll skate for yet, but it seems like Sara Kishimoto's and Michail Savitskiy's try-out went well and they've come to an agreement about where to train, as they were spotted in an IG story posted by Sam Choinard (IAM choreographer) recently.

Congrats to YunaSumi! Their improvement this season has been amazing.

Ikura and Koshiro debuted their RD at the Chris Reed Trophy today (the score will be announced on October 4th). Their next/first official competition will be Western Sectionals in November:

___________

Haruno Yajima (I think she last competed with Tsutomu Matsui) and Tsukasa Yajima, who might continue in singles as well (if I understand correctly?), but currently focuses soley on dance due to an injury, also debuted as an ice dance team at the Chris Reed Trophy (does anyone know, if they are siblings/related?):

Happy to hear that Tsukasa felt inspired to try ice dance due to taking part in Kassouya. 🥰

Does anyone know why Sumire Yoshida and Ibuki Ogahara didn't receive a JGP assignment this season? I know spots were limited, but it feels wrong to not give them one😭

Funds. JSF only sent one team to one JGP event. They are in the red so they are saving on junior teams. They had more spots but wasted them.

Okay, makes sense, especially with their most recent report. That's so unfortunate though with how much young talent they have in ice dance☹️

Oooh you two are really spruiking up the intrigue! 🧐

It does feel suspicious that they're organising a Press Conference ("会見") just to announce Shingo's new partner. Seems to me they are expecting a lot of reactions & questions

Look, I can be wrong 😅 but after I posted here (lightheartedly!) things started adding up very conveniently for me to not ignore them (@cocteautwin confirming one of her photos is in Montreal, someone on Twitter saying Rika's last IG story looked a lot like one of Gadbois rink... and I think it is).

I think the press conference invite / announcement was made by Shingo's management company through emails to media companies. For now, it's picked up by Kyodo News and Nikkan Sports. Shingo hasn't said anything on his own social media accounts, which is a bit different when he teamed up with Azusa - they both posted at the same time on Instagram back then that they have teamed up without prior announcement.

It is fascinating. I think the rumor wheel has taken off on Twitter 😅 but I mean, whoever it is, it's good news for Japanese ice dance so I can't wait for Monday!

To be clear, I'm also absolutely not sure and have zero idea if it's true :) Just curious if my very poor instagram detective skills can be right this time :P Tbh I didn't even thought it could be her when I saw the news about Shingo, only your suggestion made me check her IG and I saw those Montreal pics that rang a bell. Let's see ;)
The rumour escalated and I saw some very nasty comments although nothing has been announced/confirmed. Sad to see. Wrr.
Anyway, I'm glad he found a partner and I'm happy Rika is still willing to train and skate whatever direction it is for her. Team or not, it would be a huge loss if either of them had to cut their careers halfway through.

I saw those comments too on Twitter... it's a bit confusing since I thought most fans like Shingo and wanted Marin (Honda) to team up with him, but now that the rumor is Rika, it's suddenly different? So yeah...

I was checking back on some social media posts... there was some interesting development in late June / early July. And remember... before Rika confirmed her full coaching change to TCC in 2022, she visited Champery first (and posted on social media) and made everyone think that she was resuming with Stephane Lambiel as her coach... so her movements regarding Canada may not always be what it seems...

Everyone makes correct guess:

New ID pair: Rika + Shingo

You beat me by a few seconds in this thread

Machine translation of Rika's post:
This time, Shinya Nishiyama and I have decided to form an ice dance couple.
I try ice dancing.
I am grateful to my family, affiliations, and sponsors who pushed me through this challenge, and to Shinya Nishiyama for giving me another opportunity in my skating career.
I will continue to work hard on my dreams.

Also Shingo's post:

Rika Kihira and I have decided to form an ice dance couple. I'm happy to be able to work on ice dancing with Kihei. With the understanding of family and belonging, what we should aim for is clear, I want to grasp both of us with utmost effort.
