Shichina had a very bad injury in the off-season. Nice to see her returning. And nice to see him waiting for her. A medal would be a great reward for their patience.

Not in Russia, no. There are way worse people outside of Russia who still get to skate and have coaches who are clearly very proud of them, though, so yeah....

Vasilisa in general seems like she's quite sweet (which is not to say that she isn't competitive or anything, or that she's always sweet, I wouldn't know that). Makes it even harder to understand why Valeri treated her the way he did.

Last season Mironova/Ustenko lost a podium place at the RGPF (potentially a silver medal) because he fell in the very end of the free dance. She wasn't mad at him but later she confessed that she had vented her anger by destroying the hotel room.

Because he is a narcissist. The same reason he couldn't find another partner in a country where like 10+ girl skaters for one man.

I wonder how many skaters are covert narcissists who only stay hidden because their partners don't dare to leave them (thinking of the Shibutanis' behaviour behind the scenes, for example). I guess the difference between evil and genius is very slim sometimes.
