Love this program! A carryover but it still seems fresh and interesting
...probably bc we haven't seen it performed all that much...JSF?
Not a knock on these two or their "new" coaching team but just something I noticed~
Their skating and movements don't seem as "crisp" and in sync compared to last season
Maybe they're a bit rusty since they've been concentrating on Singles more?

Also just saw Saki's skate and man..... when I noticed her back in 2022 for her Never Enough SP I never thought that someday she'll skate a clean FS with a 3A.... it was such a complete FS too. Even though she had amazing SP performances in the last few years, her FS usually brought me back down to earth because she still had a lot of maturing to do in terms of performing and skating, but damn, not here.

Senior Women results after the GP events today
I mainly want to watch the Men, might skip the FD
Fortunately, I know a lot of performances from this competition have already been shared elsewhere so not too worried about video

Just watched the RDs and FDs for Kihira/Nishiyama and Kushida/Shimada.

K/N’s FD is much better than the RD. Of course, there’s some conditioning that needs to be done; the first lift in the FD was scary. They were slow getting into the position and he was visibly shaking. My Mama Bear came out. “Fool, if you drop her, I’m gonna drop you!” Near the end, Rika does an I-spin while he skates around her and that was a treat to watch and not something you see in ice dance. That could be an interesting characteristic of their skating - using singles elements in the choreography. Overall, though, it almost looked like they were making things up as they went along. I imagine they’ll get the elements down long before they start looking like a team.

I have the opposite impression of Kushida/Shimada. I liked both of their programs and they look like a team already! This connection really makes a huge difference on the ice. What struck me is how equal they appeared; one didn’t outshine the other which I find to be a rarity in ice dance. Kushida competed in the JGP and she’s competitive at the junior level so I don’t know how serious she is about ice dance, but there’s definitely something there and it’s worth pursuing.

That reminds me, apparently Rika is still using her singles boots and blades for ice dance. Maybe they are making it up as they go along, their programs were originally made for Azushin so there may be places where they use placeholder choreo until they are more developed as a team.

I think if Saki skates a clean SP and a FS like she did here, she’ll probably medal at Nationals - if she medals over Rion / Ami, would JSF probably send her to the Olympics? (assuming Kaori and Mone go)
