American Shawn Rettstatt (Chair of ISU Ice Dance Technical Committee) and also the technical controller at this event was spotted handing a note to IAM coaches after Chock and Bates skated last week in Skate America, which was likely to call attention to areas in their program they should be aware of that could be susceptible to technical calls by ISU tech panels. Obviously, the controversy surrounds the fact that the same review notes are not being provided to Chock and Bates’s closest competition, such as F-B/C and G/P. Now we see here at Finlandia Trophy, Rettstatt is responsible for Piper Gilles being called with a bogus base level on her twizzle sequence and F-B/C got an element invalidated in bogus fashion in the RD here. You can bet that Shawn didn’t give them notes on elements to look out for in their practice skates here. ​

There are so many cool ideas in this program but it is not polished or really coherent for me. They don't seem to come alive until the very end. I love that they always bring something unique however.

Next time there's a technical panel like this, please don't show the TES tracker! I know that wasn't skated cleanly but knowing the score wouldn't be competitive at U.S. junior nationals does not aid in my enjoying a GP event.

A dynamic free dance of Taschlerova/Taschler but they drop in the rankings. If not for the big wobble in one foot step seq of Natalie (she still did well to avoid a possible fall of both) they'd be 2nd now at least
