2025 GP Finlandia Trophy Free Dance

My violet pearl cown and top hat made it safely to musical kiddos :)
I am only now watching to catch up on FD but I have been admiring and cheering your beautiful crowns for the ice dancers so far. Did not realize you made the top hat too. I so admire your artistry! Thank you for honoring the skaters and for the fun of spotting your lovely crowns for those of us watching from home. :love3:

Oh, your kind words really made me warm inside! Thank you so much for the praise!
Yes, I try to push my crafts forwards and learn new things and I was too stubborn to let that top hat go this time despite really having no time to make it (it was made on Tuesday evening, in about 2-3 hours). I am pretty proud of myself that I pushed it and also that I've made that tiara for Ioulia because it was something completely new for me to craft :)
Also, Piper's headband was done using different technique (I've made majority of it during the night before Free Dance, just weaved light blue ribbon on site).

This may be an unpopular opinion but I find it weird that Maya and Alex are using the same FD as they did in 2018. It already had a showing at the Olympics so it seems an odd choice for a comeback at another Olympics.

This is NOT the same FD they used in 2018 at the Olympics. They skated to Paradise that season. Fix You was their 2016 program, an entire decade ago, and I prefer how they skate to it now.

I disagree with this being "normal"
There is no way, unless there is cheating, that Piper and Paul should be placed 5th in this Free Dance.
My unpopular opinion:
Piper and Paul were sublime. Spellbinding even. Incredible artistry.

But their skating was slower, on weaker edges and had less ice coverage than that of Z/K and FB/C. The artistry balances out for me to pur them ahead of Z/K (closely), but this isn't the quality of skating I'm used to seeing from piper and Paul, and FB/C did enough on that front to command the win.

Putting piper and Paul 5th is not fair to them, but I'd accept the argument to put them 3rd. Simply because as well as an art, it's (meant) to be a sport - and the athleticism/quality on this particular performance wasn't there for me.

Equally, if you are watching and valuing the art more than the quality of skating, I can accept the argument to put them first, because the program was beautiful and stunning.

Isn't it so that the lowest and highest grade don't count? Then that 5th place from the French judge had little influence on the score.

Anyway, I find it ironic that G/P got this second place and low leves while Leana Carron was on the panel. The same infamous Leana who has a rule named after her after V/M got 4 points to their FD within a week at the Olympics. The same Leana who once gave a level 1 to Chock and Bates at NHK so that Laurence and Nikolaj could win over them and downplay C/B's reputation.

It's figure skating and these games have always been and will always be played.

We can see how happy the crowns make them, which is lovely.

Finally, if Guillaume likes flow, he better rethink the two curve lifts. They are simple, not very pleasing to the eye and the transition from the first lift to the second is rough
I absolutely disagree about this. Those curve lifts are very pleasing to the eye and the transition is also smooth and beautiful. Those lifts being beautiful and matching and flowing with the music is exactly the reason why they are getting such high GOE. The level 3 for the second lift shows that it and the transition into it are not that easy at all.

I'm also wondering if the level 3 comes from the position being too similar to the RD lift position.
Guillame is in the same position for all the lifts, so laurence won't get the level credit for difficult position unless she has 3 different difficult positions.

I credit that the lift itself isn't easy, but for guillame to have 3/4 lifts in the same position (all curve lifts in a crouch), it feels the variation isn't there.

I absolutely disagree about this. Those curve lifts are very pleasing to the eye (I am actually quite shocked that someone can find the first lift displeasing to the eye, while the second is perhaps a matter of individual aestethical perception), and the transition is also smooth and beautiful. Yes. Piper and Paul deserved this win. I'll stick to my opinion. No need to argue about something that will not change for me.
8 out of 9 judges put french first in PCS
5 out of 9 judges put french first in GOE

3 out of 9 judges put canadians first in PCS
3 out of 9 judges put canadians first in GOE

I dont know what to tell you

French score was so 'low" because Shawn has a problem with FBC choreo seq and other judges cannot give more than +2, thats why you think canadians should have won because they were so close

The 2016 version was the centerpiece of their career. This version, to me, shows maturity of artistic expression, but at the cost of a certain charm and youthful earnestness?
