Danny O’Shea agreed to a tryout with Deanna Stellato

I have no words:

Danny O’Shea agreed to a tryout with Deanna Stellato.
????????????????

And what about Ellie?! Is not 1st April, right?
On second thought, at least Deanna can solidly land triple throws 😏 and Danny and Deanna are of an older generation, tho' Deanna is older than Danny.

Look at it this way: Perhaps Ellie & Danny had already agreed to part ways, and Ellie is searching for another partner, while Danny has been considering retirement options. When an opportunity to do a tryout with Deanna suddenly arose, Danny did not turn it down. If Deanna is considering a return to the U.S., it's likely because she has exhausted new partner possibilities in Canada.

A couple of questions:
If Danny hasn't been planning to retire as we all thought he would - why not stay with Ellie?
Deanna will be 43 next month. Of course, it is entirely her business what to do with her life, but there comes the point where the 'number' matters and the body has its limits which was already very obvious last season. They both are very experienced and it probably would take considerably less time for them to gel together but it still does take time, the time they both do NOT have...

At this moment I am equally interested whom with Ellie would end up and would my prediction of her pairing with Balazs come true...

Obviously, I don't have any conclusive answers, nor any insider information. I just offered possible ways of looking at this news. I think that Ellie & Danny have mutually achieved the goals they set for their partnership above and beyond their hopes and dreams. They may even have discussed a scenario in which they would split after the 2026 Olympics in order to give Ellie ample opportunity to find a younger partner to further pursue her career.

As I opined earlier, Danny likely has been considering retiring, but he was open to Deanna's offer, most likely, due to them both being older, skilled veterans who feel they might have more to give, possibly together, if the tryout was/is promising. Who knows?

Who knows is right. But.. this is a big but.. Deanna spent all that time getting Canadian citizenship and she'll have to get a release then wait a year to compete for the USA again.. All these changes in Canada and the USA sounds like chaos. My head is spinning, I can't fathom all this.

God, you are right, I forgot about the extra complication of release...
No the whole thing is crazy. Maybe they are just planning to skate in shows together?

Exactly @Spiralgraph. I think we need some kind of visual flowchart to keep track of all the musical chairs splits, retirements, and eventual new pairings.

The international landscape in pairs and ice dance has certainly had a sea change of unexpected, enormous proportions. Uncertainty and chaos are certainly accurate descriptors, which seem to match a lot of incredibly fakakta stuff going on in the larger world.

Exactly. If this partnership comes to pass, then I hope they skate for Canada. I don't want her back on the US roster, and it's a nice end of career bonus for Danny, so long as it's understood I wouldn't want him back either.

Maybe she isn't planning to compete until 2030, so citizenship isn't that important. Or they are going to skate in shows only.

Citizenship only matters for the Olympics.
However, release is another question.
One year black-out would also be in effect from the last competition done, so most of the season would be out.

So perhaps it's for show opportunities. I could see that. Danny is a great lifter and Deanna, with Max was very secure (and gorgeous) in the air. So that could be the reasoning.

For shows, they wouldn't have to jump or do many throws.

I can see that happening if the goal is shows. I don't see that happening if the goal is competing, unless they do a James-Radford sort of deal for one season. It seems like a lot of work for just a season (or maybe two).

IMO, the Twitter post itself is unsubstantiated engagement farming from someone desperately trying for relevance.... but it is being talked about. :)

Nothing would surprise me in this off season,:palmf: but I don't see the point. Neither Danny or Deanna have anything left to prove, and the logistics are not good.

I have always thought Danny was one of the best male pairs skaters but he's been saddled with partners who had little or no singles skills and that has always held him/them back from reaching higher recognition. I think Ellie is darling and she's fearless but after all these years she still can't land a darn triple and her throw triples are iffy at best. IF this rumor is true, isn't Deanna a Canadian citizen now? Does she have dual citizenship? I think this would be a very interesting pair!

This guy drops his current partner on a regular basis. But I guess you have to entertain yourself somehow. She can finally dump that damn Salchow.
