Also, I watched Mirai's skate since I missed it during the televised portion and I was very impressed with that performance. Her spins were the best of the night and that layback is insane.

What an embarrassment for NBC! Mary Carillo just reported that the man crying in the audience who the commentators claimed was Joannie's dad Normand wasn't him at all. I noticed when they kept showing him in the stands that he didn't look anything like Joannie's dad who I remember seeing during the video of her Aranjuez LP at the 2008 Skate Canada.

The tech panel was uniformly generous in this segment, I think. Playoff rules. In the Olympics, you don't want the outcome to be decided by a referee's call.

Once again, Yu-Na gets great distance and height and very nice speed out of her jumps. She has great transitions in and out of jumps, but this is more apparent in her LP than SP.

It didn't seem to help Johnny much, but hopefully Mirai will fare better. She deserves a fair score for her effort, I don't care how old she is. Tara Lipinski was what, 15 or 16 when she won gold? So tired of hearing about our US ladies being "teenagers" on NBC, as if that makes them lesser competitors.

I KNOW!! Thank you I've been sick of that for months and months. Everytime I hear that I'm all, hello Michelle and Tara in 1998? Sarah? Sasha in 02? OKSANA??

Does anyone know how a skater's routine for the "unfactored score" for program components is determined?

Also, Asada got a +0.20 goe on her flip while Rochette got a +1.6 and Yu Na got a +1.2. Tell me the difference between the execution?

Transition wise between Mao and Yu Na. I didn't see transition in either combo, but they both had them for single 3 and double axle jumps.

I can certainly give Yu Na more credit for her 3/3 especially with the flow and equal height she appears to achieve on the 3t but +2.00 versus +0.60 on a 3a? I'm just not getting why the goe is so low on Asada's combo except for maybe slow flow after the ending of the comb.

My favourite SP, from a pure enjoyment perspective, was Alena's, actually. Now, I fully recognize the deficiencies in her skating skill and presentation, but nonetheless, that program was a pure delight - so odd and exhuberant. Was not expecting that. Bonus points for the comedic value of that spiral sequence!

Bravo to Rachel for the outstanding performance quality she managed to bring to (parts of) that SP.

There was a good performance quality to almost all of the SP`s tonight, i found.

I pretty much agree with the scoring, except I wouldn't mind seeing the scores of all the top three about 2-3 points lower.

Yes there is lol Look at the components and GOEs. That is waht protocol is for.

Ando would have been closer if she didn't get a downgrade.

I have a few problems with Yu Na's program:
She waits way too long after footwork to do her flip.
Her layback leg position is atrocious.
She under-rotated her second triple on the 3-3.

Not a huge deal, but if she's going to get such an insane score, everything should be perfect.

Ok, I'm done with my nitpicking for the night.

Great job, Ladies!!! Especially proud of our Americans!

I really do like the scoring system that's replaced the 6.0 system ever since it got introduced but sometimes the gaps between skaters can be confusing to me.

Mao's landing was extremely close too. A strict technical panel likely would have DG her 3flip I think. The free leg appears lazy to me on the landing.

That would just re-enforce Mirai to just skate skate and skate. I do enjoy watching her skate. She is very sure footed for such young age. She keeps saying she's about the future because that's what her name means in Japanese. But I think she is now.

But it has great back and arm position with great speed and enough revolutions + biellmann. Not the best in the world but worth the points.
