South Korean federation's complaint to the ISU about judging

For those who are curious and uncertain about KSU complaint to ISU,

Frankly, KSU never seems to be willing to file a complaint to ISU. They first said on Feb.22 that they have appealed to ISU, but they were just respectfully requesting if the judging was made fairly. Of course ISU would say that the judging was made fairly. Then Koreans kept pressuring and calling KOC (KSU didn't even received a call until several weeks later).

After we had a rally, KOC finally said that they were going to file a complaint. But it was KSU who should finally send a complaint to ISU. KOC then gave all the responsibility to KSU.

After Koreans sent out newspaper advertisement, KSU said that they are going to file a complaint, but after the 2014 World Championship in Japan. Because they were afraid other korean skaters might be disadvantaged. ***? So they announced that they were going to file a complaint on April 2 or 3rd. But as you might have expected, they didn't. So Korean fans kept calling and visiting them, but the person in charge was in meeting every time they call and out for vacation. Then Korean fans had to rally again in the most crowded place in Seoul.

On April 20th, when Korean fans called KSU, they finally said that they had sent out a complaint (they filed a complaint, because KSU can't appeal after 30days according to ISU Rule 123, 124, but they can file a complaint until 60 days after the game). But there weren't any press conference and mass media reporting. They already have the control of all the media in Korea. They are only telling people who asks them. On a tv, there were about 15 seconds reporting that KSU have filed a complaint and no more. They are trying their best to conceal that they have filed a complaint. Other koreans called ISU to make sure if they have received the complaint, but the answer was they are going to only respond to reporters or any mass medias, but not to normal fans. Then, Korean fans visited KSU to make sure they have filed a complaint.

But the thing is if ISU choose to dismiss the complaint, KOC have 21 days(3weeks) to appeal to IOC and CAS. It is likely that ISU might have had a prior consultation with KSU to make this go away silently. I am pretty sure Cinquanta started to feel pressured.

It is important to know when ISU would dismiss the complaint from KSU. If they secretly do that, koreans are screwed. What koreans and other figure skating fans who thinks that the judging was rigged should tell their media and reporters about KSU complaint to ISU. Let me tell you something about corrupted KSU as most of you are already aware of this. KSU is just corrupted and greedy as hell. I am sure you have heard of Victor Ahn, a former Korean who had 3 OGM to Korea in Vancouver and 3 OGM in Sochi. KSU let Victor Ahn naturalized to Russia because they don't want injured skater and that he has failed to pass the selection match. Koreans all know that coaches and one former Korean skater threatened Victor Ahn, because that skater needed OGM to evade obligatory military service in Korea. What a sad story. All Koreans are glad, but sad that Victor Ahn naturalized to russia.

In addition, the president of KSU is the son-in-law of the chairman of Samsung, Lee Kun-hee. Moreover, the president of KSU is a vice-president of KOC and a president of samsung engineering. LOL you can see what's going on here.

The thing is Samsung made a contract with Russia regarding providing a construction of LTE coverage in Russia. Moreover, Samsung won a contract with Russia regarding gas spreading plantation(GSP) in IRAQ. It is clear that president of KSU, vice president of KOC, and a president of samsung engineering don't want to have a conflict and make bad image against Russia.

Moreover, the president of KSU and vice president of KOC is planning to become a IOC member. He clearly doesn't want to make a problem with them.

No, where is YOUR evidence? Between the two there was only 1 jump that was clearly UR (>1/4 turn), and that was Adelina's 3T on her opening 3FLz-3T. It was clearly visible even without slow motion replay. As for wrong edge? You gotta be joking me.

I think Lee Kun-hee is also a IOC member. At least till 2012 he was, I don't know if he's still a member.

If I'm not mistaken Kim also said in 2012 that she will try to become a member of the IOC after the Sochi Games.

Way to obscure my point about Mao's step sequence. Your original point was that Yuna didn't bend over forward and backward like Caro, therefore Yuna didn't deserve level 4. My point was that Yuna didn't have to have as much upper body movement as Caro as long as she fulfilled the rules requirement--and that her upper body movement was quite similar to Mao's, who did get that feature as she got level 4.

Using YOUR standard, Mao's torso remains mostly upright throughout the majority of the sequence. Yes, she dips down a bit and has arm movement throughout--so does Yuna, though. They both do an illusion near the end. On a general level, that's why I'd say they have a comparable amount of upper body movement that affects the core of the body. It's just wrong for you to say Mao's arms and torso constantly created challenges to HER center whereas you have denied that Yuna's arm and torso movements did. It's like saying, "If skater X (Mao) did it, it's great; if skater Y (Yuna) does the same thing, it's bad." It's wrong for you to hold Yuna to the "Carolina Kostner upper body movement standard" while not holding Mao to the same.



It's not the job of the tech panel to judge whether it was "relatively simpler", just if it met the requirements.

Anyway, the Sochi judging panel gave Yuna and Mao's step sequence the exact same GOE. What do you think of that?

Are we even watching the same Sochi stsq by Mao and Yuna? No one would deny that Mao's was much more difficult than Yuna's (and everybody's in fact), and she did dip, move her arms, head and torso more, and at a greater speed than Yuna. As long as her arm, head, torso moves were challenging to her balance for 1/3, they were counted in Feature 3. Her upper body was leaned a lot to the side, which also counts as creating an off-centered weight distribution, not just forwards and backwards like Caro's. Her upper body moves were not as frequent as Caro's but still lasted 1/3 of the duration and her other aspects more than made up to rank ahead of Caro's stsq, in my opinion, and many others', it seems. Mao's stsq was insanely difficult.

Of course "simpler" matters, as Levels are awarded according to difficulty, and there are bullet points for all 4 Features to consider. Yuna satisfied the minimum for three Features but probably not Feature #3. I don't have the exact details of the Tech Panel which feature they marked hers as missing, but my own observation is Feature #3.

As for GOE, I think Yuna executed just fine, though I would suggest that for Level 4, she would need to create a crescendo with the step sequence and throw her very being into a full performance to get the audience on her side like Caro and Mao did. I like to watch stsq because of the thrilling experience and full expression of the skaters to give meaning to the theme of the choreography. Jumps and spins, though spectacular, are standard fare, and the stsq is the part where the choreography can really shine. Caro's Bolero stsq is prefaced with an "announcement", a sort of a forward bow, the audience goes wild when they see that in expectation of her brilliant performance.

Do you see now why nobody in sober mind takes all those claims seriously? How many times did you use the word Koreans and you never, not even a single time, used the word "Yuna" or "Yuna fans"? Nobody cares about your racial nationalist bias. For the complain you need the legal case that KSU doesn't have. Learn to lose with grace and stop embarrassing Yuna. She is ashamed enough.

The South Korean Figure Skating Association has officially protested but now that the Russian Adelina Sotnikowa and not his star runner Kim Yuna won gold at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
This was confirmed by the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the ISU World Figure Skating Association, the Dortmund prosecutor Volker Waldeck.

"First, it must be decided in the next three weeks whether the ISU and its Complaints Commission is responsible or the CAS in Lausanne, only then to decide on the matter," Waldeck said. The International Court of Sport CAS is responsible for matters IOC and the Olympic Games are no events of the ISU, but the IOC.

So very sad but the news don't surprise me at all. It's ironic because the stereotype says that falling apart with the people and fans would suit North Korea but it’s South Korea. Alas, the consumer society may be less violent because people tend to solve their problems by means of money but it definitely isn’t more honest.

I don’t want to be provoking but once you’re here and I always wanted to ask an insider: do you remember the 2002 WC in soccer? There was a judging scandal, too. It was when the talks started that technology should be involved to register the goal in soccer. What was/is Korean opinion regarding this?
It’s no problem if you can't or are not interested to answer. Soccer and figure skating are free to remain on different planets :)

It's a big news today in Russia - on the front page of the main Russian site Yandex for several hours now. Two general sentiments: 1) "let it pass" 2) "good timing, guys". Within the first sentiment directions in general are: a) the sport is subjective. Adelina showed her best effort ever and her double foot landing was penalized by 0.9 There is no hard proof that she was intentionally overscored, b) Yuna is a very good skater indeed but she showed no progress since Vancouver. She had fewer jumps with one unstable landing - judges were fair to her. c) Mao could have won if she had not blown the SP - in LP she was much stronger than Yuna d) If Yulia had not fallen, she would have won and no one would complain, e) will you ever stop? Within the second sentiment there is a conspiracy theory that now that everyone is happy to announce new sanctions to Russia who "interferes" in Ukraine ISU might be willing to follow the suit....That's what they write.
 
The commitment to take away the gold from Sotnikiva is very strong. You have balkov, shekhovtseva,Lakernik, and baranova along with others possibly like Kulik of Estonia giving falsely high scores to sotnikova to have her win because she is russian and they are russian or Russia allies. So this is prima facie evidence of cheating and her scores being illegimate and a reason for removal of gold from sotnikova and so gold can be given to Yuna.
 
One thing to mention: most of the points relate not to the news per se but to the accompanying comments. The news just state the fact with the source Yonhap News. But the fact that it is still on the front page of Yandex and that it was reposted by dozens of agencies including Forbes, ITAR-TASS (the main news agency since the USSR), and Interfax shows that the issue is still on and is still quite emotional. Well, hope at least it brings some points to FS popularity in Russia.
