The skater from North Vancouver is keeping his short program from last year to “Fascination” by Fermo Dante Marchetti, and has freshened up the choreography. Both routines were choreographed by Mark Pillay, who the skater has worked with for the past seven years.

Abbott, a two-time Olympian and four-time U.S. champion, will make his season debut at Skate America. He will use his short program from last season, “Lilies of the Valley,” (although this could change later in the season) and will skate to “Adagio for Strings” in the long program.

He clearly said previously he was going to use Latch. In fact that's what is on his iceentwork bio: http://web.icenetwork.com/skaters/profile/jeremy_abbott

I wondered if he got feedback from Champs Camp that prompted him to go back to the other program.
 
I love the Tarasova/Morosov program. And I'm struck again by how graceful the Russian pairs skaters are compared to several of the US "top" (and I use that term loosely) pairs teams. Even though she fell on her triple and stepped out of the throw triple, their every move is finished and flows into the next one.

And what happened to Jeremy Abbott's "this is the last time on National ice?"

:agree: Yes, Abbott's previous announcement of Latch is exactly why I thought the change -- at least for Skate America -- was worth noting in this thread.

You're probably right. I bet anything (and have said this before) that had he not had such a fine long program at the Olympics that he would have retired. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you feel about it) that gave him hope. I've always liked Jeremy and yet don't like the white knuckles I get from watching him skate. When he's "on" he's amaaaaaaaaazing. But.....that's maybe once or twice a year! I think he's done a remarkable job of choreographing some of his programs and maybe that's what would be good for him to concentrate on. But then.........his life, his body, his career.

I think his crash into the wall was a wake up call for him to get out of his own head. Once he was in too much agony to think about every little thing till he psyches himself, out he did wonderfully I think something may have finally clicked with him, to stop being a perfectionist and just enjoy skating again, to not only judge good or bad based on final placements but also by your own performance. It was so nice seeing him at worlds (not sure if SP or LP actually off the top of my head) but one of his programs he was done, after not being perfect and he skated off the ice smiling and laughing about "so close" but he was happy, he looked like he was glad to be there and not heartbroken. Seeing him being happy with less than perfect was really nice to see.

Im somewhat looking forward to seeing him this year. . . If he can keep this attitude up, it could be a great year. Even if he does not place well, I would love to see him skate and enjoy it. He is a lovely skater, even if he does not win, I would like to see him skate beautifully, and enjoy it.
 
Very wise move to return to "Lilies" for his short. With the trouble he has had getting the quad in the short, repeating a known program should help. (If he can get over the CRASH memories.

I remember his Mother saying he was going to retire after 2010. I wonder how much the 2014 retirement was his family pushing it. He has ongoing physical issues to work with, so I guess we'll see.

Perhaps "Latch" was too controversial?

But after the Olympics, I felt a burst of energy, a renewed sense of enthusiasm and I went to worlds and I said, ‘Wow, I love this.’ I learned so much from last season and how to compete.

“I had some epic mistakes,” he added, laughing at his own misfortune from Sochi, where he crashed into the boards during the short program. “But I still found joy from competing. I want to test myself again.”

I have been using Soundhound to identify some of the pieces of music in performances where the music's identity is not spelled out in the skater's bio.

Sometimes it works, and I think Soundhound is more likely to identify a song distorted by the rink's audio.system than Shazam is.

Do any of you know a better app for song id than either Soundhound or Shazam?
 
Alex and Daniel are on their way to beautiful Salt Lake City and the debut of their 2014/15 programs.

They have told me that they love their music selections for this season and the way Marina has choreographed both programs. For their Short Dance they wanted something different for the Paso. They knew that since the ISU Compulsory Paso Doble music (112 BPM) is Espana Cani (Spanish Gypsy Dance) and Melaguania that a lot of teams would already be using them. Angelika had picked “Carmen” for Alex & Daniel while they were training at Detroit Skating Club and she felt it suited them very well. When they moved to Arctic Edge, in Canton, Marina also liked “Carmen” for Alex and Daniel, but she had the music rearranged, because she preferred the Russian National Orchestra version conducted by Mikhail Pletnev.

Marina sets up their weekly specialist schedule which includes set times with all of their technical coaches, and with their dance team - Jennifer Swan, from London, Ontario, Canada works with the kids on parts of their Short Dance.

Daniel portrays Escamillo, the Toreador. I'm a fan of Nick Verreos, “Nikolaki”, and can’t wait to hear his opinion of Daniel’s toreador costume and its place in the musical presentation. Nick Verreos is “Greek American”, same as Daniel’s girlfriend, Georgia Glastris, and all of us love looking at Nick’s “Run-Way Designs”. Daniel’s costume was put together, that disassembled so each panel could be embroidered, than reassembled. It perfectly accents Alex’s (Carmen’s) dress. We hope you will enjoy their Short Dance which they debut on Friday Night.

BTW, Lynn is in SLC for the Classic ... if she talked to Carroll there, does that mean he is there as part of Team Edmunds? (GG and DT are not competing in SLC.)

Maybe he's there under his new mentor role? Since there are a lot of young skaters and coaches doing the Challenge Skate?
