2016 US Nationals Senior Ladies SP

I know I've asked this question before but, I'm going to ask it again. If YOU were coaching Graice, Would you have her go for the flip or the loop? My next question. When Gracie misses her flip, is it popped or does she actually fall?

*If* i let her go for the flip i would frankly want to work with a PR person to talk about how it is a process and bla bla bla... at face value she should do the loop and I think she should do the loop. The only argument i have seen that makes sense is that you have to sometimes practice things during the season, accept it will not always go well, but you still have to make those errors to be ready at worlds. So if the long term goal is the 3F at worlds, that is at least a maybe in my book, but you need a few good sound bytes about the process... not pretending the issue does not exist. I can sorta see doing as a process... but really I just don't think they are worth it.

As for what she does. It seems this season she has been popping her 3F into a double - and in the SP that gets a goose egg. She does fall on it at times as well. Usually when she falls it is on the 3F. She also is prone to edge calls...so she has a few costly issues with it.

Fingers crossed Gracie doesn't pop that flip! (I'll take an edge call or a fall over a 2F).

Well, I'm on the anti-flip bandwagon for Gracie, but maybe she and Frank are playing the long game. Keep doing it, suck it up when she messes it up, and hope it becomes more reliable the more she puts it out in competition. Just maybe that 3F will be ready by 2018.
That is a idiotic plan to be honest. She already lost SA because of the flip i wonder how they will feel if she blows it again and loses Nationals too because of this strategy? Right now is the only thing that matters not 2018.

Lol, well despite the fact that I'm not at all qualified to coach anyone, let alone Gracie Gold, her loop is more reliable and she won't risk points on an edge call.

She's popped the 3F into a 2F 2/3 times in the SP this season. I believe (not 100% sure) she's also popped it into a 1F at both Japan Open and GPF in the LP. I don't think she's had a fall on it. She needs to make herself rotate it.

But even if she gets those rotations, a potential e call will make it worth less than a clean loop in the SP. But like I said, maybe she's playing the long game and banking on the flip getting better the more she gets used to it. IF she's able to do a clean-edge lutz and clean-edge flip, she'll be one of the few ladies in the current field who can.

:confused2:

I'm inclined to agree with you, but it's a process. Same with Jason Brown and his quad.

... other than the fact that the quad is worth a fair amount more than the difference between 3F and 3L.

a 4T is worth 10.3. A 3Z is worth 6.0 a 2A is worth 3.3. (they are the likely jumps Jason would replace)

A 3F is only worth .2 more than a 3L... it is one thing to have a process... but you have to look at if the investment is worth the payoff. In this case there is just not that much of a reward for what Gracie has invested.

....and it is a good comparison... I just think we should look at the numbers a little as well, because they may not both have the same answer.

I think it is cute that the Gold twins are second to last and second to skate.

I also think Ashley has the advantage here. Even if she does not do well, Ashely will likely have the crowd, and Gracie will have to hear/see that.

True......I always wanted to perform right before my rival. It's kind of a "Try And Beat That" kind of situation. Hopefully Gracie has been through this so many times that she doesn't get distracted by the crowd noise or scores. As long as she's focused I can't see it really affecting her. It would be way worse to have something go wrong with your music or costume. Right Tonya Harding..;)

I remember Irina Slutskaya having a problem with her music at Worlds in 2001. I found it. This would be way worse IMO, than having to listen to scores from another skater.

Here's Irina's SP from 2001 Worlds British Version when her music stops and she has to restart her program. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsrxgkMdt8E I

:hopelessness:

Gracie skating almost last AND after Ashley? I already feel like crying. On one hand, if Ashley bombs, it might make her nervous, but on the other hand, if Ashley skates lights-out...eek. This is really not what I wanted to hear after the heartbreak of Vivian not skating well.

Or...If Ashley bombs, the pressure of having the chance to lead with a huge margin in the SP can make Gracie crumble....:roll9:

OH COME ON! PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME CRY!

I am probably going to go into cardiac arrest when Gracie skates, I'm so nervous. (My heart was beating as much as it does when I work out when Vivian skated, so you can only imagine...)
