A Techno Bolero would be awesome!

Is there an ear bleeding smilie?

Ant

Also, the repetitive nature of "Bolero" won't be as problematic in an SP as in a FS. (Seriously, though, can't Evan choose music that Michelle has never used? Or, do "Lyra" and get it over with?)

And do it wearing the lavendar Vera Wang

Ant (apologies i'm in a silly mood)

I would not think that Kwan´s "Bolero" has been an inspiration here, much more the sp skated by Plushenko! The latter was awesome (made me a fan for a while), as I saw it live in Finlandia Trophy, WOW.

....But then, you've never exactly been a Kwan fan anyway.....

I love Plushenko, but IMO his "Bolero" was not one of his better programs.

Each to his own taste, said the girl as she kissed the cow!

Oh, actually I was a Kwan fan a few years starting about in 1996 fall and I definetely hoped that she would win in 1998 Olympics.... Later I got bored with her skating, repeating the same again and again (that´s how I felt, anyway, LOL). And I did not admire her Tosca or Bolero programmes at all.

Best Bolero progam is Torville and Dean....no one can compare or even come close to it......

still don't get this part in fig. skating history.
personally wouldn't give it one 6.0
i guess compared to others...yes...
but then again that's my opinion - so dont attack me with over reactions.

in ice dance speak.....anyone know teams' programs?
the OD theme?

I'm not thrilled about hearing Bolero - it's just one of those things (unless you are T/D, sorry but they own that one like no one can) - but, better short than long AND didn't Sasha Abt have a fantastic SP to Bolero?

Ah Abt. On my short list of special skaters with Jackson, Curry, Browning, Lambiel, and maybe Dick up there in the left hand corner.

Bolero is a Spanish ballroom dance, which gave birth to the Tango. The Ravel treatment of the dance, imo, belongs in a group number. It's quite exciting as a group specialty.

Where was I? :rolleye: I don't remember the Masters contests.
This was the beginning-of-the-season pro-am cheesefest. It was in Boise, Idaho that year. There was also one in 2001.

In 2000, Michelle won, followed by Irina Slutskaya, Yuka Sato (pro), Maria Butyrskaya, and Lu Chen (pro).

For the men, Todd Eldredge landed his first ever quad in the "Interpretive Program" segment and edged Alexei Yagudin, who did his exhibition version of the Man in the Iron Mask, with knives. (I'm not sure if this was the event where he cut himself during the performance.) Kulik was third with Rockit, in a controversial judging decision all the way around. Steven Cousins was fourth.

There was also a pairs competition, with Berezhnaya and Sikharudlidze finishing ahead of Ina and Zimmerman and Shen and Zhou.

The skaters did a competitive short program and an artistic pro-style intepretive program which was limited to four jumps.

The next year Slutskaya won ahead of Kwan, Sato, Cohen and Butryskaya.

In 2002, Hallmark Greeting Cards came in as a sponsor and they changed the name to the Hallmark Skaters Championship. Yuka Sato  won over Slutskaya, Hughes and Butyrskaya.

^^^

So it wasn't a "look how funny I can be" comp. I'm all for bringing bacl serious comps. BTW, what was the purse for thata? It brought out the stars of the times.

wow!

i see the program "romance" of nakano!

it was so beautiful!! wonderful program!

because i couldn't see the lutz and flip...

she can make a beautiful program only if she didn't do the lutz and flip

(A, S, L and T)!!

Could you give link to this video. please

There was a link but it was removed because of the copyright-thingy.

Can we perhaps try to collect all the information about the programs in the first post with links (if the program has already been performed)?

I love the music of Nakano's program, but thought that the choreography looked a bit generic. Nakano has the charisma to make the program interesting though. And I hope that she will be mind-blowing to Giselle.

I love Lysacek's choice for his freeprogram - not really happy about the short though. Bolero isn't fantastic music in my opinion (it was probably written under the influence of a neurological disease, hence the repetitive nature - that of course doesn't reduce the quality of the music but this repetive style is just not my cup of tea). And it's just hard to skate to I think. It's like Safri Duo - just a bit older and with different instruments - and only KVDP (and perhaps Joubert) can pull off Safri Duo.
As I said, happy about the free. I wanted to see him skate to jazzy-classical music sometime (would have prefered the overture to Candide though - why is nobody skating to that, it's so amazing, it has everything...:disapp:). Well, never mind. Still happy with the choice .

Johnny's music. Tinymavy, do you remember how we talked about Saint-Preux in the thread about the music and I gave you two links to two pieces and the first one was "On the Wings of Time"? And you said that it's pretty good - and now he actually chose it... I still think it's a good piece, it's not really innovative or really creative, but it's probably going to be a good and beautiful program, that emphasises his strengths.
About the LP, well I just - sincerely and with all my heart - hate most musicals. A musical is basically a watered-down, overly expensive and highly superficial version of an opera. Notre-Dame is not one of the really bad musicals, but it's still a musical. The music is tolerable, I guess. I am still excited about this program because Johnny's approach to the program sounds interesting and creative (and I heard he is training Ina Bauers and laybacks ).

Summertime by Gershwin for Lambiel, I was like :party2: - till I read the choice for his LP:scowl:. Another Tango? It must be number 253 this season. That's the chosen one by the way. He better makes this unique. Oh, and I heard that Antonio Najarro is on his way to New York to choreograph the program (programs?) - no worries there then. At least we can have a poll at the end of the season - who did the best Tango.

Still waiting for Takahashi's LP-announcement - and Joubert's choices of course.

And I got these from a French forum - I am not sure if they have already been posted.

Most interesting here is: Will Lindemann really be back?

Stefan Lindemann
SP : Musique au piano
FP : Beetlejuice

Kiira Korpi
SP :
LP : "Agatha" by Kerkko Koskinen

Alban Preaubert
SP : "Exit music for a film" (Radiohead cover) par Brad Melhdau :bravo:
LP : Thème russe: "Kalinka" et "les bateliers de la volga" par Maxime Rodriguez

Valentina Marchei
SP : "La traviata"
LP : "2046" / "Seigneur des Anneaux"

I love Korpi's LP-music, I hope she has time to breathe during that performance.

I have been thinking about doing that the last few days, so if you want, I can start now. I've got time to kill...and I need a break from the sun.
