So it wasn't a "look how funny I can be" comp. I'm all for bringing back serious comps. BTW, what was the purse for that? It brought out the stars of the times.

I'm not sure about that event, but I think the U.S. pro-ams paid about $50,000 to win, with everyone getting a nice pay day just to show up. $50,000 was also the amont of prize money for winning the world championship back then (now it's $45,000.) Michelle, as the headliner for U.S. television purposes, may have gotten additional appearance fees or other considerations.

This was all part of the ISU trying keep skaters from going pro by allowing them to earn extra money in pro-ams, and generally trying to take over the whole sport. Many of the pros, like Brian Boitano and Kristi Yamaguchi, wanted no part of it, and the ISU involvement pretty much killed off pro competitions.

In the 2002-03 season, Michelle decided not to do the Grand Prix. This made her ineligible to do any pro-am cheesefests, according to the ISU rules. So she did not participate in the 2002 Hallmark event.

BTW, not only did Yuka Sato win that contest in ladies' singles, but Sato and Dungjen got the silver in pairs, behind Sale and Pelletiere and ahead of Shen and Jiao and Pang and Tong.

I love the music of Nakano's program, but thought that the choreography looked a bit generic.

This seems to be a common complaint about Marina Zoueva's choreography. I thought the choreography is good -- but because of its simplicity, it takes a skater who is willing to put lots of attention to the details to pull it off properly. I'm excited in seeing how this program develops over the season.

Lovely music and dress. I think the choreography is very good other than the first 45 seconds or so when Yukuri "presents" every move to the audience. I think that takes away from the emotion.

As the season goes on she will need a lot more speed in that footwork sequence, but I will cut her some slack because it is only the first week of august. Also, I think that Yukuri's coaches/choreographer should take advantage of her flexibility by changing her spiral sequence. The positions she has now make her look less flexible than she is. Just watch the opening fluff. WOW. full split.

I haven't heard anything about Joannie Rochette's programs, D&W's programs, or V&M's competition OD or FD programs...and I can't wait to hear!

I saw on the Cliff Notes thread that Samuelson and Bates are doing "Let Yourself Go" for OD! Wow, I love that song...Fred and Ginger from "Follow the Fleet", 1936. Can't wait to see what they do with it.

I know Kimmie's music was announced a while ago, but I just now got around to downloading "Un Ange Passe," and OMG is that the most gorgeous piece of music or what????? I think that is now my favorite song ever. I don't know if she'll be using the same version that I downloaded, but wow. I can't wait to see her program. And her dress. There is just so much potential there. How long until Skate America?????

Berlin's "Let Yourself Go" is a wonderful old fashion jazz/blues number used by many tap dancers and often seen as a full cast production number.

Looking forward to seeing what S&B do with it.
