2008-2009 Programs by Discipline

I don't know, that's "Panic" by Giovanni Allevi, which she has used and I heard is using next year for her exhibition. Surely she wouldn't use the same music for her sp and ex?

Probably not, but the layout is perfect for a short program, and the spiral sequence and step sequence are tailor-made for COP. Most of her EX programs don't look that much like competitive programs.

US Figure Skating has released the names of competitors at the Ostrava JGP. As a result, there are some new bios there, and hence some new program information is available:

This pair won the LP in juniors at Liberty. They are from Rhode Island

Marissa Castelli & Simon Shnapir

SP Music: Theme from Survivor by Russ Landau
FS Music: Selections from Gladiator soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard

And I don't know anything about this pair yet ,but they will be skating at Ostrava:

Kloe Bautista and Galvani Hopson
SP: Pink Panther music remix
FS music: Selections from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie soundtrack by Nicholas Hooper

And Keegan has a JGP assignment at Ostrava, too. He skated very well at Liberty, too. He's from Alaska

Keegan Messing
SP: "Fundamentum" by Lesiem
LP: Selections from the Gremlins soundtrack

Kloe and Galvani palced 4th i believe in novice at nationals last year. I used to train with Kloe, and love her skating. She seems to be having success sticking to pairs. The music choices are PERFECT for them.

I went to the Moran Memorial competition today and unfortunately Fumie is skating to Otonal for her long
On the bright side, it's certainly one of the best Otonals that I've seen.

Jenni Vahamaa's SP is from the Soundtrack to Howl's Moving Castle. I don't know which part of the soundtrack she's using, but here's a sample from the movie.
I can't listen to the music on this computer, but I'm glad to see some skaters (coaching teams?) are thinking outside the box with their musical choices. Go Jenni!

A spectator at the Moran Open in NJ reports the following:

Daisuke Murakami performed his short to "Night on Bald Mountain" and his long to "Variations of a Theme by Paganini."

Elene Gedevanishvili's short was to music from "Cabaret" and her long was a Latin medley featuring "Besame Mucho" and "Rumba d'Amore."

She had Cabaret as a short in the 2007 2008 season, so I am assuming it's her old SP.

Wow! Someone's actually skating to an anime soundtrack? I've been waiting for this day to come. I'm gonna be cheering for her.

Verner's long program is *suspense* - a TANGO!

* Season 2008 - 2009
SP: Minor swing to Django (Children of the revolution)
LP: Tango Medley; Oblivion, Adios Nonino, Libertango (Astor Piazolla) and La Cumparsita by Matos Rodriguez

Are these guys kidding? This has to be a joke. And - I am biased here of course - it's probably going to hurt Verner, because he is going up against Lambiel, who uses a "whole" piece of music and no medley and, most importantly, is Stéphane Lambiel.

SP : 5ème de Beethoven by Maxime Marecaux
LP : Caravan by Brian Setzer
Summertime _ Papi & Bess by Louis Amstrong
Sing Sing by Brian Stezer

5th by Beethoven??? Now I am in love with Ponsero, I want to hug him! Yes! Beethoven! Yesssss!

Oh please no, not another tango! Why Tomas, why? My top 3 skaters all have a tango (Takahashi, Lambiel and Verner). How on earth is this going to end? I won't be able to listen to tango for years to come...

Ponseros choice of music is great on the other hand. Looking forward to that.

From FSU:

A poster just read in the new issue of IFS that Brian Joubert will be skating his SP to Rise by Safri Duo (from his exhibition last season), and his LP will be to "The Last of the Mohicans".

Hmm, I'm not sure what I think about this. Rise works for him as an EX but will it work for a competitive program? Last of the Mohicans is a great soundtrack but I'm not certain it's right for him. I know the Kerrs used it a couple of seasons ago and I wonder why Platov decided to re-visit it with Brian. Did Brian use a techno version of that soundtrack in his Time program back in 2003/2004? I seem to remember something like that and wonder if that's what he has in mind this time as well.

At least it's not another tango .

I was very disappointed to hear that he was not keeping his SP from last year. I guess it was because of the music violation which cost him world gold. It was a great program though, I never tired of it. I love the music from Last of the Mohicans, and could see him skating to it. I don't really remember his exhibition last year. I don't remember finding it very good... but I am keeping an open mind.

for the Last of the Mohicans, I hope he doesn't wear buckskin fringe or worse, a headban with a single feather. ;)
Hahaha right on Joe!!!!

But seriously, these pieces are SO Brian. I guess in the year before the Olympics(time has flown) he wants to keep doing his thing and will continue it through the Olympics.

I remember Brian EX from Worlds. Hey, I was there to see it. ;) It's a great EX. It really got the audience going. But as a program? KvdP does these things great. Brian really should try something else. It might not be appreciated at all. It'll be interesting to see what he can do with his FS.

When I first saw Brian years ago, I thought, here is a fantastic jumper using the style of stick figures. But after he spent some time with Kurt who showed him how to use body language, Brian is becoming someone to watch as an execptional skater - goes beyond 007. That EX Alexzu was talking about should be his SP. He's got rythym now. Wondering what Platov will do for him?
