2010-2011 Programs by Discipline

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

I wonder if the ISU would ever force all skaters to skate to the same music. Now that would be a fair comparison.

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

Of course! But that seems to be a popular approach.

IMO opinion it isn't really that silly if the music was actually composed for particular movie or stage production.

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

It's not silly if it can be done well. It's just not necessary...but most skaters ,or their choreographers , (not all) seem to feel bound to do it.( As if it's the only option. ) This makes for a lot of repetitive, sometimes cheesy programs.:rolleye:

It's jmo, portraying a bloodthirsty biblical exotic dancer is for some twisted reason more comfortable than interpreting a geisha who had her sense of identity maimed and tamed at the age of freaking NINE to suit the desire of perverted cheating ********. But as I said in my previous post, I still appreciate the beautiful score that lends itself to interpretation of deep range of emotion. I just don't see Sayuri as a relatable character but a victim suffering from twisted stokholm syndrome. If I were to run into chairman Iwamura after I became a geisha, I would have him freaking gelded not fall in love with him.

Erm, I'm not so sure why I'm in angry feminist mood today. LOL

An interesting post, don't see why it needed to be censored Tonichelle?

My two cents is that music from any source can be used creatively, eg MK used music from Lawrence of Arabia not to portray Lawrence, but rather to apparently convey the ghost of an Indian empress haunting the Taj Mahal. Same could go for MoG, not neccessarily about being a geisha or Sayuri herself, the only lady I think who came close to that was Yukari. Mirai may use it to convey a completely different character or mood than was prevalent in the film/book.

If you type an obscenity, the automatic censor will turn it to asterisks. If you type something that is sort of like an obscenity, a moderator will edit it. Trying to avoid the censor on purpose is considered a violation of the GS guidelines.

GS is G-rated so that young skaters and their parents will feel comfortable with pre-teens reading the posts here. And we try very hard to retain that G-rating.

I have updated and added quite a few of the Pairs' programs, based on info from Indy Pairs.

Well sometimes I think your interpretation of "sort of like an obscenity" is a bit puritanical (eg I had the term "***-less chaps" deleted from a post once), but I am sure the pre-teens are sleeping better for it.

Anywho, loving Caro's new LP, but is it just me or is the step sequence a bit light on content? Will she fill it in later? And is this a Lori program?

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

Has a video been released of Carolina's new freeskate? What music is she using?

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

That was beautiful. This is the Lori I know and love. Carolina took a big risk setting up a comparison with the great Curry and Lynn. If she could only hit those jumps, this could be a masterpiece.

I played this piece in orchestra last year! I remember thinking that it would be perfect for skating. Can't really say too much about this program yet, but I hope she does it justice!

Just think of it as a vocabulary exercise to do without profanity...or as training to avoid being arrested in Michigan. And you might want them to dispatch an ambulance when you want it, too.

Parts of the US have a very low tolerance for swearing.

And it isn't like there are aren't more than enough words in the English language to avoid the few questionable ones.

Interesting article! But it was the police officer who ended up in trouble, so I think the consensus is it was wrong of him to arrest a girl for swearing. I guess I was always raised to believe all forms of censorship are bad.

A couple of years ago, I was on another board and I wrote a note about my sister who had just bought an exotic bird from Australia. It's like a small parrot. It's called a cockatiel, and I ran afoul of the computer censors.

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

We are not censoring your ideas. We're censoring particular word choice so this board can appeal to a wider audience. As Doris said, you can express your views with other words and the understanding and meaning is the same - and carries just as much if not more weight.

Bob - we had the same thing happen with the overly sensitive censor a few years ago with Slutskaya, so frustrating.

Hmm, I guess not, but it's difficult to describe what ***-less chaps are without using the word ***. Maybe I should say "derriere" instead!
