2013-2014 Programs by Discipline

I would grant that Thriller is different but Ben is more similar to Buble's style than late MJ stuff. In any case, I just find Buble to be vastly inferior to MJ, not even on the same plane.

Oh lawdy, are we seriously likening the two Mikes, one Bublé and the other Jackson? The only thing they have in common is the latter once had a chimp with a similar name to the former. Never mind that they exist in entirely different genres (with MJ inhabiting a great deal more of those than the timid Bublé), Michael Jackson revolutionized the culture and business of music and dance. Bublé, on the other hand, is a rehash of a rehash who churns out elevator tunes for elderly care centers. Well, OK, one more thing they have in common, they're both horribly overused by figure skaters. I'm disappointed but not entirely surprised that the Shibutanis, who always skewed closer to Bublé than Jackson in terms of creativity, would pick those two artists to skate to.

If I have to say one nice thing about Michael Bublé... at least he never abused kids like Michael Jackson probably did. And speaking of Jacko's child molestation, the issue is coming up again what with choreographer Wade Robson's civil suit and supposed new reveals from FBI files with potentially damning evidence. If that comes to a head, it's going to make the Shibs' music choice very awkward in a high profile year.

For the Shibs, I agree that straightforward is best... or at least it's been best so far.

Their short dance to the Carousel waltz was beautiful, and it was well-received from the judges. Contrast that with last year's more conceptual polka... which I could like, but not love.

Latin music is, to me, more sensual/sexual. I think it must be difficult for a sibling pair to skate Latin with conviction. I don't think I could watch them skate a rhumba, for example.

I have to agree with SeriousBusiness on the MJ theme. With the resurrection of the child abuse allegations and court cases likely to be in full swing... it could be awkward, and especially for young skaters. Admittedly, my opinions are slanted because I, personally, can't get past the child abuse claims to actually enjoy any of his music now. I know that legally, innocent till proven guilty and all that... but on a personal level, I believe those claims.

Dornbush: Sons of Italy SP and Beatles medley FS

... both of his programs for the coming season were choreographed by Mark Pillay, who did his U2 short program last year. ....

Dornbush's short program is set to Sons of Italy.

"It hasn't been performed on a really high level that I know of since Kurt Browning did it in the 1990-91 season," Dornbush said. "It's more of a character piece."

Dornbush is very excited about his new free skate, to a Beatles medley. He says it's a "roller coaster," with several variations in tempo.

Her FS dress is so beautiful -- classy and subtly Egyptian, not over-the-top. I'm eager awaiting her Olympic season debut. With Sweet Charity (I'm assuming a medley), Kaetlyn's headed to showbiz!

It's interesting that her coach has the final say on the dresses, though. Is that a common occurrence?

The dresses are not very nice. Rather cheap and not what I would expect from an Olympic pretender or contender. Disappoingint. Its a stetch to see cleopatra in the white number and the black dress looks rather club skating not Olympic skating.

Do you know this?
Daisuke's new SP will be Mamoru Samuragochi's Sonatina for Violin choreographed by K.Miyamoto

LP will be Beatles medley: Yesterday, Come Together, Friends and Lovers, In My Life, Winding Road by Lori Nichol

Either way, Kaetlyn has promised that she is going to show something very different from the former season. So I'm very much looking forward to seeing them:)

Whaaaa.. I am ready to hand him the gold! I guess many of Dai's Japanese fans have got their dream comes true. A Japanese sonata piece and Miyamoto!! Love it!

I can't think of anyone do better justice to Beatle's laid back easy going joyful ironic languid medley epics than Dai. (Except Maybe Kurt? But he ain't competing baby!) It would be an amazing farewell program regardless of the medals actually. Lori sure knows how to utilize her client's best selling points to bespoke something totally Dai. Who's the Beatles of figure skating today? Lori got it!

Info on Mr Samuragochi from Wiki: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/佐村河内守

Samuragochi is a Japanese composer born in Hiroshima in 1963. His parents (both) were exposed radiation in the atomic bombing which hit Hiroshima on Aug 6, 1945. It was not clear if their son was affected by this bombing, but he eventually started losing his hearing ability asince age 17, and completely lost it by age 35 (around 1998)...
In 2003 he compsed 'Symphomy #1 HIROSHIMA'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TQP...m/watch?v=pED5OICGVp0&list=PL57DD265BA51A64A5, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6rEeASHo64&list=PL57DD265BA51A64A5
He composed 'Piano Sonata Requiem' dedicating all the victims of Mega Earthquake which hit Eastern part Japan in March 2011. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HylUl28mBg8

Pechalat/Bourzat SD: Bob Fosse - "Sing, Sing, Sing"

The rhythms proposed by the ISU are the Quickstep, the Foxtrott and the Charleston. We built our program with Laurie May Ayivigan, on the theme "Bob Fosse" (with the famous music piece "Sing, Sing, Sing")

I was actually surprised that no one had announced their SD music as "Sing Sing Sing" before. "Sing Sing Sing" makes a good quickstep music, though I hope it won't be overused this season.
