2013-2014 Programs by Discipline

Really looovvee choices for Davis and White. This gold medal could be theirs all they have to do is skate clean. The music suits them to a tee. That being said, I hope the spoilers make it fun:yes::clap:

Aren't we talking about Rimski-Korsakov's Scheherazade? The piece is almost 45 minutes long, maybe there's enough music for everyone who wants to use it :)

Kiira Korpi has new SP: Beatles’ song “A day in the life”, Jeff Beck’s guitar version, choreography by Jeffrey Buttle. She has her old FS, Ennio Morricone's Once upon a time in America, choreography by Shae-Lynn Bourne.

Re: D/W... I'm not super excited about Scheherazade. I just don't think it's very compelling and I hope they use some lesser known cuts. I was hoping for non-character-based music for the Olympic season--I think D/W do a wonderful job interpreting characters (2009 Samson et Delilah, 2010 Phantom, 2013 Giselle) but I really enjoy their programs when they're just themselves and they dance freely to just the music (2011 Tango, 2012 Die Fledermaus). Because it's dance, to some extent... it will always be about characters. Ah, I guess we'll see... I'm sure I'll love both programs regardless.

I'm THRILLED with their SD music and I'm gonna go ahead and call it now--I think the music itself will give them the best short dance of the season. Plus they have Derek Hough choreo... it should be uh-mazing!

From the same IN article (Aug 23):

Denis Ten
Carroll is ecstatic about Ten's new programs, a short to Saint-Saens' "Danse Macabre" and free to Shostakovich's "Lady and the Hooligan," both choreographed by Nichol.

LOL, it is not hot-off-the-press news, but I do not see Ten's programs posted earlier in the thread. ;)

Today IN has a full article devoted solely to Denis Ten, including discussion of his new programs:

I loved Robin's program, I can't wait Javi's and Kurt's version.

Wow really intrigued by Javier's programs! Great choices! He is looking more like a contender every day. A few years ago, I didn't think is possible for a Spanish skater to be talking about Olympic chances, it seems Kurt and David Wilson got this one covered.

Men's championships are looking super exciting, so many contenders especially now Plushy is coming back for his incredible 4th(!) Olympics, bearing the flag for Mother Russia in Russia.

If they have a record breaking program that they are comfortable with and still want to do, why not? It's not like it wasn't done before. How many times did Sasha Cohen use Dark Eyes? Michelle Kwan also used her Feeling Begins and Rachmaninov programs for more than one season.
The problem is Hanyu has expressed more than once that he does not want to skate to the old SP. He has been wanting a new SP. But again and again Orser and Co. persuades him to skate to the old SP. That’s why many Hanyu fans don’t like this.

In this case, the analysis of the scenario is that Orser has assured his potential OGM student – as he stated - the same opportunity he assured Yuna in Vancouver , where they were successful and won.

On the other side, Orser has chosen the recycling policy for the student which he believes is not an OGM contender, no matter the pupil had asked for a new SP.

Different strategies and treatments for different skaters who have different potentials in Orser’s mind.
If this is true, it's a WRONG strategy: we all know that Hanyu is a potential OGM contender as much as Javier (SP WR twice last season!), last year he had some health problems in the most important competitions, if it wasn't for that he could have easily been 4CC champion and on the Worlds podium, next year both Yuzuru and Javier could be OGM if Chan/Takahashi/Plushy have an off-day... (but I don't think it is true, I want to believe that FS is not all about politics and strategy )
This has nothing to do with potential. Most people know that Hanyu has potential to win OGM. Sadly this is more politics and money. For example, Brian Orser, Jeffrey Buttle, and Javier Fernandez all belong to IMG. Hanyu does not. IMG has been pursuing Hanyu since last year, but Hanyu does not want to be part of IMG. This is why Fernandez gets all the IMG support and can go to Japan Open and make a documentary to be shown on NBC. Since IMG still can’t get Hanyu until now, it’s not a surprise that Orser and Co. are favoring Fernandez. Remember what IMG did that also made Yuna leave Orser, just because Yuna was not in IMG. I don’t think it’s a surprise IMG and Orser can do similar things again.
