srsly though, I'll take this costume and good program over bad memories bad skate (though it might just be practical reason)

thanks for posting the awards ceremony! It was a total "bromance," and lovely to watch.

I'm really glad Javi could land on the podium "at home." I am just awed my Hanyu's jumps - and to think he didn't land that 4Sal last year in competition. Wow. Yay for Sergei!

I'm really gutted for Machida, and do hope he can shake it off and skate very well at nationals.

Gold medal to the audience - such a supportive group!

I just realized waking up that this all really happened. Feels like a dream.

I'm sad I won't see Machida at the gala, but instead I get Voronov and Javier, so won't complain (I, too, have gotten quite enamored by Voronov), and of course Yuzuru Hanyu on top of the pile at the gala will be perfect!

The medal ceremony was so wonderful, and Yuzuru being so happy and expressive about it... Sigh.

+1 to the audience comment. Last night I turned around and thanked the Japanese ladies sitting behind me for coming all this way and congratulated them. They had made the prettiest banners, too, and their support was sooo much fun!

I'm glad Voronov is getting some love. He seems like such a cool guy. Not really over the top anything. Just kind of quietly goes along and does his thing. He seems very grounded and happy just to exist within the world of skating. I think that is why people like him. He is kind of just a normal person like most of us

I can tell you a few reasons why I don't much like Kovtun.

At TEB, after Han Yan and Hanyu collided, at the press conference, he wrung his hands and moaned about how upset he was, how he could hardly skate, because of the sight of the blood, etc., etc. Not a word of concern for the two men who had been injured, who, of course would have been his top rivals if they hadn't been injured. Fact is, if Hanyu hadn't been injured, Kovtun wouldn't have won the competition.

At the GPF, in the Kiss N Cry, being Kovtun, he was probably pretty sure he would be in first place because he had landed two quads. When he heard he was in third place, he looked shocked. Of course, he didn't consider that his three jumping passes were all sloppy and he got -GOE on all of them. Later on, he complained that he didn't know why he'd been 'slapped'.

About the whole Kovtun thing, I really don't like all the hate he's getting. If you don't like his skating style, that's fine by me, you can dislike him, but why all the, and I use this word very seriously, hate? If it's about the racist comment, maybe most of you haven't figured it out yet, but the N word has absolutely no negative connotation whatsoever in Russia and many other countries. About the homophobic slurs? Yeah, that was really stupid. I cannot defend him in any way. Maybe he has a twisted sense of humour and meant it as a joke (the Titanic thing makes me think he just has a twisted sense of humour that many people may misunderstand or find offensive). And if he did mean it, maybe he has changed his stance. Who knows? That comment was made more than 2 years ago when he was just a 16 year-old kid. What, are you still going to be talking about that 5, 10 years from now on? "Oh, remember, when a gazillion years ago Kovtun said that..." Point is, those comments were made a long time ago and may not apply anymore. And even if he is that kind of a person, why should you care? It's not like all your hate can change him, you're just bringing more negativity into this world.

And I guess it is kind of his fault that, because of his big mouth, other people are putting words in it, but those who do such a thing without knowing anything for sure should also feel responsible, because there are some newer fans and other people who don't know anything, so outright stating that Kovtun is the "racist and homophobe" as if they know the guy is even more immature and stupid than what Kovtun himself did. I'm not attacking anyone in particular here, but... please also think about what you're saying. For all the things you say about him, think about yourselves as well.

I am very sorry about this rant, it's just something that kept piling on in me after reading your comments competition after competition after competition. I feel much better after letting it all out

About the whole competition, it was a good event and I'm really glad that Voronov is on the podium! And while I'm also glad that Javi is on the podium as well, I do think his marks are a bit high for the performance he put forth

From your comment, you cite the fall as the reason why Hanyu shouldn't be scoring near WR. So, then, it stands to reason that you also think a perfect Hanyu is not worthy of being 1 point shy of WR. Is this what you truly mean? Do you not believe that a perfect Hanyu is as good as a perfect Chan? Maybe you do, maybe you don't. If you do believe so, then 7 points short of WR is well justified by the data. If you don't believe so, then it must be for some reason other than the "but-he-fell" excuse that you don't believe so. Either way, my point is that it's disingenuous to use the "but-he-fell" excuse to justify your displeasure at the scores.

I don't think Hanyu is as good a basic skater as Chan, no. (And I don't like Chan. At all.) Hanyu is very sloppy.

He fell. Leaving aside the fact that I don't think the penalty for a fall is severe enough to begin with, he got -2s from some judges on a fall. That's a disgrace, an absolute disgrace. And IMO, his PCS did not get affected enough. I am firmly of the belief that PCS should start going down once a skater falls. There is a category called "Performance/Execution" and clearly you are not executing the performance well if you fall.

And I do not think it should be possible for a skater to get anywhere near a WR if they fall.

Machida's performance ruined my perfect event. Even with the falls and mistakes and everything...the program kept its magic. Good luck for him at the nationals...I really want to see him shining at the WC

I don't speak very much in this forum instead I enjoyed reading everyone's posts. It was very very funny to see how you hated Hanyu, whereas one of your fav US boy said Hanyu was his fav skater *can't stop smiling
(Maybe he has a bad taste to pick such a sloppy, over-scored skater as his fav - though I see this differently: he's actually one of the US male skaters I really like, AND, I appreciate/trust his taste)
