2014 Worlds Men Short Program

But his PCS in Free Skate has not improved yet, hasn't it?

I think he got an 89+ for PCS in his FS at Olympics,

My problem with this FS from Fernandez, Apart form the music a bit, Is how his difficulty with stamina shows,

If he somehow manages to overcome that, Then hat's off to him and may he get 9.00's again

If he goes relatively clean he'll probably get them anyways,

But it will be so weird to have him win here against the two Japanese guys here :)

It'll take SOME effort

I'm really happy that so many skaters are still in medal contention, also gold. Last year's London had Chan with a similar score like Machida and nobody was able to catch him anymore, which made everything a bit boring. I like it when everything still seems possible in the LP.

Yes ! it makes it more exciting and skaters need to make more effort

Just a quick observation: It's not lost on me that Jason Brown can walk away with the top three short program scores internationally among the U.S. men this season. It is really too bad he's not here.

Hanyu's BV in his FS was about 6-7 points higher than Chan's, If he somehow manages to deliver a clean FS he'll probably take it.

But then again, What if Fernandez goes clean with 3 Quads, Now that he has PCS around 9.00 ^_^ ?

Hm..I would prefer Javi as the Champion over Machida, honestly speaking :slink: And Yuzu could take silver (If he doesn't make it to Gold or doesn't skate clean) Does anyone know Machida's BV?

My ideal podium right now
1 -Yuzu or Javi
2- Javier or Yuzu
3-Machida

Machida ain't Chan, so all is open.

Such a pity Kovtun didn't make the last group, but 7 is great start to build his confidence.

Yan Han is the first chinese male skater i like. He has good presence on the ice, public seems to love him.

The two americans were not so bad like predicted.Sad a little bit for Liebers.

All in all, pretty good competition.

I'm really surprised that Hanyu got an UR call on his 4T and Kovtun on his 4S - yet Kozuka got full credit for his 4T.

My favorite skate of the night was Verners! And I would have had his score higher. Probably above Hanyu and Fernandez and in 2nd. I'd have the top 4 a little closer together too, but maybe that's just me. And good for Han Yan for making the last group!
That was a good Men's SP overall, pretty great if one factors in that this is a post-Olympics worlds

Machida's BV is also quite high, like 84 or something. But seriously I couldn't buy his LP. Fernandez gets gold wouldn't be a problem for me, though.

It was 84.02 with one spin lv2 and another lv3. So it could even be a little higher. Hanyus was 88.52 with a lv 1 spin at the GPF. So hanyu can make up about 4 points with his BV even on a clean Machida, now it depends on what you expect the judges to give them in GOE and PCS.

Kovtun should get in the sommer to a jumping coach to fix his problems. As lovely his skills are, as strange are his jumps and this is a too big Achile heel to let it like that. (why cannot Mishin and Tarasova do a figure skating school togheter?).

Let's wait for the order,

If Hanyu and Fernandez go before Machida he'll have a problem,
Has he ever done 2 quads in a FS ?
Hanyu's going for 2 , With a couple of 3A combo's after the halfway
Fernandez might go for 3 , One after the halfway,
If any of them delivers Machida might need to hustle in a way he can't

They would kill each other before that happen. for sure.

I really like Fernandez, but I have a different opinion. If Machida skates clean, I want him to win. He is smooth. He will never be Daisuke or something, but becoming World Champion would not be undeserved.

I hope he's clean this time. His SP is a world record already so I can let it go. But his LP, I only need him to be clean at least one. ;)

yes. just once, oh please. and I promise that I will not even look at the score because I will be so happy.

Kovtun has worked with Mishin in the past. He and Gachinski did not get along, and then Kovtun decided he knew better than Mishin and left and worked on the jumps by himself. No wonder they're so ugly.

I think medalling at your first Worlds (which I think he will definitely) and maybe even becoming World Champion, Machida has nothing to fear. But he is not the most stable of the skaters. But the same can be said for Fernandez.

Of course if he did better than anyone they must let him win. But if he didn't, then please no Japanese skaters PCS inflations. And to tell the truth, I couldn't buy his Firebird program. Not that I like Hanyu's LP either. The costume! My nightmare!

Is it just me or Worlds without PChan has become much of a better competition, even the scores look better and deserving?

This is such an unfair comment about Chan. :disapp:No matter how he skates, he has been bringing some of the most gorgeous, most intricate skating programs and choreography to international competitions.

I miss him terribly throughout this competition. Sure there are a lot of clean and technically difficult skates, nice jumps, spins, step sequences, ect., but none of them move me like Chan's programs. "Concierto de Aranjuez" "Rachmaninov" "Elegie", "Four Seasons", they're all masterpieces, not even Hanyu's "Parisian Boulevard" or Machida's "East of Eden", despite the emotional motions or gestures, come close.
