2014 Worlds Men Short Program

They REALLY want to give that magical 300 away.

If they gave Machida over 200 for his free skate Fire Bird, they will kill me for sure. :sarcasm: Not that I think Hanyu's R&J 2.0 worths that mark either. None of the top skaters here has a free skate that is inspiring enough for the 200 mark. Even if they stay clean, I still couldn't believe that they could deliver it. 200 mark should ONLY work for a magical program. So please, don't give such mark away so easily, judges.

Someone has just upload his performance on youtube so I rewatched it. Is it just me or Hanyu was skating faster than in Sochi? Really faster, with such a speed. I have downloaded his Sochi SP in my computer and it did not look this fast.

I think it was not only Hanyu but also some other skaters who looked skating faster than in Sochi,
and I doubt it is because of the camera.
I've read someone complaining about Sochi's camera-work which was shooting step-sequence from the direction where skaters were heading to,
and that made those steps looked very slow.

Machida definitely received a huge home country boost. And that massive PCS for his skating, LOL! Just no. He did skate very well, but he would still be in 2nd right now in any other country. Good they did not hold up Hanyu when he had problems. He still could come back to win.

Just curious.
Who do you think should be the first? Javi or Hanyu?

Machida going over 200 would just show the Japanese are out to outdo the Putinflation of Sochi. Hanyu I could see going over 200 with a clean long (and he definitely would here), but Machida

They can blame that on the under control radiation. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd....0-9/1620528_1646768975371000_1440167833_n.jpg

Anyways, I don't see Hanyu's current FS has the "it" factor for over 200 mark. He has the talent and ability to break that mark, but not with the R&J 2.0. He would get close to it if he skated clean and received high GOE. But anyways I don't care about that, I don't care about the gold medal. I only want Hanyu to skate clean:slink: And I wish the judge would be reasonable for the score, please don't give anyone over 200 mark please. No men in the top 5 has a remarkable free program for that score.

He COULD, but I wish he wouldn't...R&J 2.0 is not worthy of 200 tbh. Now if we were talking about R&J 1.0 with added BV then yes. That program was gorgeous and worthy. But I'm still hoping Yuzuru sneaks up and snatches that gold :yay:

I hope he's clean this time. His SP is a world record already so I can let it go. But his LP, I only need him to be clean at least one. ;)

Me, too. :) Maybe not even need Hanyu to have a clean LP, but it would be nice.

pcs a little low for both u.s men despite falls, but hey why not

that is one reason I can't get behind Jeremy. he tries but falls in short which hurts him in free. becomes known as inconsistent and pretty much guaranteed fall in short.

. . . the finesse of a Chan's program where he tugs at your heartstrings with impeccable moves timed to music to strike at the right notes.

Definitely a YMMV situation for me. Although I did feel sorry for Chan after the way people got on him about the Olympics, his skating has never, ever really moved me.

I am like a zombie right now, but after all I liked Maxim Kovtun's flamenco (I am not Russian). I don't understand why he is bashed like that. I know he is inconsistent. Hopefully he skates without mistakes in the long program. I am happy all the Canadians have qualified, but I feel sad for Kevin.

I am scared that they will give Machida over 200 mark if he skated clean. Not that I hold any grudge against him. He skated well and he deserved high score, but 200 mark for that lackluster program will not work for me, never. Finger cross for the judges not to boost the score any higher.

Well Machida's LP is not worth so big points. I think it will be good if he will hit with it 180-maybe 185 if will go clean. In the best situation it still can be Hanyu. If he will be clean on all elements and will be perfect he may get close to 200, so for me Machida needs to change something in LP and go all in to fight for that or just count that Yuzuru and Javier will bomb their programs
Hanyu World's story tells that he is good in coming back with LP after not so good SP so he may well do it again. The pressure is now bigger on Machida

I hope Machida will become World Champion. There I said it. Just accept that he beat your faves tonight. Friday is another day and he is not World Champion just after the short. Machida seems to be the second coming of Patrick Chan circa 2013 in terms of "Noooo..he didn't deserveeeee it!" "Home Inflation" "INSERT RANDOM SKATER was ROBBED by Machida" I guess we can never be happy on this forum without someone being the villain.

Actually I don't care who will get the gold, just don't want to see anymore PCS/GOE inflation. Machida SP is 14.73 point higher than he was at Sochi (both without any deduction). Let's just say Machida is likely to be clean at his free skate, he might even get 183 at least. And I think that score is enough for him to win the gold.
If they give him over 190 with the same fire bird program, then I will be very tired. :disapp: I want the 6.0 system back.
And if Hanyu win with PCS inflation (like over 200 marks for his free skate:slink:) I will be very disappointed, too. Because... I don't see their free skates worth that much.

I think his score today is deserved, it was really skate of his life. :)

The question now is if Hanyu skates clean with a fall on the quad salchow, how likely is he to win. Since I think that is the most likely scenario for his LP, clean except a fall on the quad salchow, and he is already 5-7 points back.

I would be now more afraid of his quad toe  From what I saw, he landed every attempt of quad salchow in practices here, and one fall on quad toe

I think Machida will likely to become world champion, if he skated his free like his SP today. I just don't want to see unreasonable high score again. Let's just say, I think Hanyu's 193 for his free skate at grand prix final is unreasonable high. He didn't need that much to win. Same thing apply for Machida. It's good that he win, just want to see PCS comes back to normal.
Just like what happened at Vancouver, do I think Kim Yuna deserved to win? Definitely, no one was better than her. But I don't believe that her score there is reasonable.:slink:

But then again, what is reasonable PCS anyway?

Hanyu score at GPF wasn't so "unreasonable" high. He received 102 points TES with fall on quad sall, and for level 1 on last spin. Just add lost points in TES and you will receive what deserved points he can hit. But the rest of jumps beside sal was perfect.

I still dont think Machida will win. He will win a medal silver or bronze, but probably not the gold. Fernandez has a harder LP and if he skates it well it will have to score higher than Machida's even in Japan. His PCS will also have to be higher as Machida's LP is a total bore (while his SP is actually quite good) and Fernandez's is far more entertaining and better. Meanwhile if Hanyu skates clean he will pass Machida even from 7 points back, no matter what Machida does.
If Fernandez wins, then Orser would be the one who laugh last. 3 of his students get 3 world titles in a year.
