Can Mao close the gap and still win if she skates cleanly in the free?

Mao is my favorite skater in the current field, but honestly I think she'll always get dinged because of her UR issue and inconsistency. I don't care that much about the final result for her though. She's still the most beautiful lady skater today in my book.
I now always assume she won't skate perfectly, so that I don't get disappointed. Then, if she skates great, it feels even greater ^_^

Well that's one BIG FAT if. For that to happen she needs no URs, no pops, clean 3A, no edge calls. Basically something that happens once in every xx competition. Maybe it's this one, but for her sake it is better be in Boston in few months.

I think it's fair for judges to penalize her in PCS when the tech panel isn't looking at her pre-rotation. They only ever look at landings for URs, right? It's unfair that Satoko's jumps receive comparable scores to other ladies, IMO. That said, Satoko has wonderful choreography and a feel for the music, and her interpretation has only gotten stronger since last year.

Like I said, Satoko has EVERYTHING except big jumps.

Extension: check
Polish: check
Spins and flexibility: check, check
Consistency: check

If she had the big jumps, she'd be topping the podium every time.

Actually that's true if she will improve just a little on the artistry. But the technique i've never seen anything like this, she is trained to do a lot of difficult combos.

but is she trained already for puberty/changes of her body??Wish that won't be a case, but if she won't be that good after puberty issues Eteri will discard her like another broken doll...Sorry, but that woman makes me really annoyed.

Watching all these young girls turning into ladies, so many of them struggling with cooperation with their bodies wish she would be prepared for this possibility instead of being 'trained to do a lot of difficult combos'

To sum it up:
Medvedeva skated her program as best as she could and it would have been stunning, if she wouldn't have done this pulling the tights half over the boot thing. That was very distracting.
Radionova is a fighter, but her performances are so frantic this season. As long as she gets such high PCS for that I see no way her coach and her choreographers will change that. It's sad, she could be great with a little more refinement.
Asada's 3A was gorgeous, the combo wouldn't hurt her but she's hurting her score massively by always challenging herself. As if a 3A in the short wouldn't be enough. What about a 3L-2L and a 3F? Or a 3F-3L and a 3S, or even a single 3T? I love her for that, but I also want to see the best skater win.
Same goes for Gracie. Her 3L is very good. She should do that. She doesn't have a 3A anyway, so no need to do the same thing that Mao does.
The funny thing happened again: Satoko actually improved her 3F and now she receives an edge call. Great performance though. I really wonder if she could be a better jumper if she wouldn't have changed the direction of rotation when she was a kid. It must make a difference.
Ashley is not in form or she isn't focused. Maybe she needs the lutz in her program to function properly? I don't know.

Oh, yes. Julia is just winning everything isn't she! Oh, wait... For now, those that I listed are flopping or have flopped. The results as of late speak for themselves. That doesn't mean they can't get it back together but, right now = flop.

I'm just glad that people are starting to notice that Satoko's being unfairly penalised in her scores. Her jumps looked fine.

And since when Lipnitskaya is the case study for all others? For every Lip we have 5 others who are doing just fine. Otherwsie there would simply be nobody skating right now.

I wouldn't call Tukt, Sotnikova, and Pogo "doing just fine", thought Tukt's issues are more related to preparation.

Technique in the sense of the ability to do so many combos, or to do all the jumps after the second half.

In general i have to say also Elena is able to do basically all the 3-3 combos (except of course 3A-3T), while other talented skaters such as Gracie Gold can barely do a 3ltz-3T

You can recognize her skaters the moment they perform a 2A. Hers still is better than Julia's, that's something... right?

Not as bad as Tara Lipinski's 2A. (Olympic champion)

I think the issues of Liza, Adelina, and Anna have nothing to do with technique and everything to do with preparation, stamina, mental stuff, etc. Sure, Adelina and Anna don't have perfect technique on everything (Liza does) but I don't think their struggles are because of technique.

Skaters go through ups and downs. The field is so deep right now that if someone is having a "down" time it's that much harder to place well.

Started reading Ladies SP GPF thread and see all these fugly trolls attacking Evgenia for her difficult tanos and jumps done in the second half. Now, by no way is she my favorite skater, but people need to give credit where credit is due.
