2015 Winter Universiade

No. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the Belarusians. For whatever reasons, that judge wanted to make it harder for them to medal. Who knows what the reasons might be.

The only reason I can think of is because A&R and B&D are the russian no. 4 and 5, and the chinese pairs top 3. So maybe they wanted to make the distance a bit bigger.

If this's because politics, I don't think it has anything to do with Yu/Jin as I believe the Russians has no threat to Yu/Jin.
It's more likely that the judge perefer France pairs to medal. Not only Russians but all three pairs who got similiar TES with JAMES/CIPRES (include anther Chinese Pair Wang/Zhang) received a extremely low PCS score.

Could be this as well.

Yep. He is a sentimental favorite and so skilled in his skating. His step sequences and the choreo for his LP make me want to weep with joy. But I can't count on him. It's the sad truth.

I keep wishing and urging him to do well like his world silver medal days...but I understand, it is not very easy to be a student and an elite skater at the same time! One of those skaters that stroke the ice as if Picasso was stroking a canvas with his brush to produce a masterpiece! Really sad!

Ugh that fall on the 2nd 3A made me want to cry. My eyes are always drawn to his feet whenever he skates....so beautiful

I'm seriously pulling for Taka to somehow grab that World Bronze...I don't think I can stand seeing him looking so disappointed...again

Pairs Short: Pretty clean competition. Guess we needed it, after the men...

Yu/Jin: The class of the field. Their routine was the only one that really felt like a performance, not a collection of elements. Their skating seems very smooth and their movements are well-timed to the music. While they're not my favourite Chinese pair, I can see why others adore this team.

Astakhova/Rogonov: I don't know what annoyed me more--the  music or how they didn't really skate to it and own the "weird." That being said, their elements were definitely second-best on the night.

Bazarova/Deputat: A bunch of little mistakes piled up and made the entire skate seem a little shaky. The choreography could be a little better too--the first half felt like a collection of elements, which is a shame because they are capable of being expressive.

James/Cipres: Didn't really make much of an impression. Elements were a little laboured, but they got the job done.

Wang/Zhang: ...Is it just me, or does their basic skating look really, really subpar? They'll have to improve if they want to make 4CC/World teams in the future. I agree with their PCS being the lowest of the pairs.

Paliakova/Bochkov: I actually enjoyed them. They at least made an attempt to perform and interpret their music, even if they were not as successful as Yu/Jin.

Note to all pairs--perhaps the "man waves his arms dramatically during death spiral" thing should be left to Han Cong. He's the only one who can make it look musical.

I like Gorshkov, I hope he can have more opportunities to skate internationally in the future.

Just a wee reminder that the Short Dance is about to start.

Official FISU stream (needs you to share location)

tdp are starting their coverage of the Short Dance half an hour late. So, whether they will join live or show the whole thing delayed, I don't know.

Official tdp stream (needs Hola) (currently showing Universiade alpine skiing)

Illegal tdp stream (currently showing Universiade alpine skiing)

Hope this helps

The FISU stream is very nice as far as the video definition goes. They are now redoing the ice.

I know, it's great isn't it!!! HD pictures and no commentary!!! :points:

Although, the audio is a bit out of sync with the pictures on the FISU.

Unfortunately, Flash Player crashed during the second couple, so I had to watch the rest of the first 2 groups on the tdp stream. And whilst the picture was just as good, I missed having no commentary.

You are not alone, a dozen of cross-overs to get across several meters in the opening is unbearable to me. They skate mostly on flat and need to get down to the knees more, that reminds me about Yu/Jin in the past. The basic skating of Yu/Jin was not much better than Wang/Zhao when I watched them live in SC for the first time. So, everything is possible depending whether you can find your way to progress.

Just watching pairs FS scores... A/R got lower score for interpretation than J/C? While I like the French a lot, that seems to me pretty... strange

I agree, A/R's LP is my favorite program this year. The choreography and their interpretation of the characters are great.

I like Vanessa and Morgan's LP but it seems laboured recently (French Nats, Euro)... the music is great, though.
