2016-2017 Programs by Discipline

I assume this is going to be Ashley Wagner's LP. What is she doing for her short?

Yes, this is her new LP after initially scrapping a different piece of music/choreography according to her snapchat. No word yet on her SP music.

Ashley Wagner will be skating to Exogenesis: symphony part 3, already known to skating world by the programs of Jeremy Abbott and the Kerrs.

I'm really thrilled about this piece for Ashley. Exogenesis is one of my favorite figure skating pieces. And more piano:love: for me!

I think it's a lovely change for her. I hope she (Shae-Lynne) keeps the footwork segment she posted last month. It's gorgeous.

I recently read an older interview of Adam; he said when he choreographed Ashley's SP, they had a whole program done, and then Raf said he didn't like the music. They had to do a new one to Spartacus, which I loved, but still .... it makes me wonder if something similar happened, if Raf nixed the first FS Ashley and Shae-Lynne prepared last month.

ETA: I have no idea why the link doesn't work. Just check her Instagram.

Looks like it will be very, very pretty--and also pretty different than the more fierce/dramatic/character-driven LPs that have been her most successful. I'm excited!

Daisuke Murakami revealed his programs for next season. Both choreographed by Lori Nichol. He's keeping his SP.

SP: "Bring Him Home" by Josh Groban
FS: "Pagliacci" by Andrea Bocelli

I'm a little disappointed in Ashley's music choice although I'm sure she can deliver the program to the music pretty well. The problem I have with the music is that I feel like I've heard the music enough already in figure skating through men's and paired disciplines. The music is definitely not as much overused as warhorse music, but still any song of MUSE have similar tones, so that might give me the impression. Though it is a good thing that she will approach the other way from dramatic and diva-like programs done for the past years, so the program may reveal a soft side of her.

The problem with that choice of music is that it doesn't play to Ashley's strengths. She needs music that will help camouflage her weaknesses, not draw attention to them.

Well she is working on her weaknesses. This music can highlight her maturity, but the choreography needs to be introspective and remorseful, while at the same time making good use of the climaxes. Not just floaty/pretty, which is all I'm getting out of that clip. We'll see.

I am hoping Adam can work his magic, since I was skeptical about Jason's "the Piano" music before the program.

But truly, the Bloodless, Stateless, whatever it is ... I like piano music just fine. We have an August Förster studio grand (not that I'm the one who plays it!) that cost more than our cars. And as far as I can tell, Adam could do much better having my spousal unit play that extremely minor key combo on the AF, over and over again, while I moaned "I'm so sad, shoot me now" every few bars. And I can't sing.

I like this idea, I would love to see Adam perform to *my* original music:biggrin:

Bloodstream by Stateless is an excellent piece of music. I remember finding out that year or two ago and never forgetting since. There's a beautiful, emotional climax in it that could be translated into that program. I believe this is a good choice for Adam.

Fingers crossed that Chinese fed gets the full Lori Nichol package for Boyang instead of the "discount" choreography that Han Yan usually gets.

I wish CSA broadens the mindset on pools of choreographers. There are many competent choreographers to be able to make programs to various genres of music that their skaters feel comfortable and like. Boyang has said he likes electronic music and listens to the genre extensively. The choice of music so far for him does not sound like reflecting on Boyang's character.

Mirai Nagasu's short program will be to Chopin's Nocturne in C-Sharp Minor, according to an article posted on icenetwork: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2016/07/14/189648118

There are two Chopin nocturnes in C-Sharp Minor. I wonder which piece they've chosen.

Per Sarah Brannen, who reported Mirai's music choices in the IN series on Mirai's choreo process:

@SarahandDrew
I have not personally seen the program, but my understanding is that @mirai_nagasu's SP is to Chopin Nocturne No. 20.

Are the injury rumours about Penny Coomes true?

Someone posted an insider info (not officially confirmed) on Russian forum that she was injured in June, had a surgery and recovery will take approx 6-9 months. I am so sad.
