2016 US Nationals Senior Ladies SP

I'm going to go ubër hipster this year and pull for Alexie Mieskoski and Bradie Tennell. :taunt:

I remember Irina Slutskaya having a problem with her music at Worlds in 2001. I found it. This would be way worse IMO, than having to listen to scores from another skater.

Here's Irina's SP from 2001 Worlds British Version when her music stops and she has to restart her program. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsrxgkMdt8E I

It happens not infrequently.

Max Aaron had it happen the year he won nationals

I know i have seen one with Kevin Reynolds as well.

Marah Bell had a horrid one this year too. She started her program, her music started skipping, the ref stopped it, she skated to the ref, then had to skate across the rink to get an alternative CD from Kori, skate that back to the ref, then immediately go start over. Sadly she did not do well after. That is too much of a surge of the wrong type of adrenaline... they really should give a little bit of a catch your breath reset time for stuff like that.

Ashley has it made. She just needs to skate the SP clean and the crowd and huge Nationals score will come up and Gracie will bomb herself out of contention.

Gracie has been more consistent at nationals. It's at international events she melts down.

People, I may ask dumb questions but at least I'm never mean. I have never seen Gracie bomb. I've seen her be less than great and I've heard her say that she's bombed. Fortunately, I've never seen the performance. The only skaters I've seen "Bomb" would be poor Jennifer Robinson during her SP at Worlds in 2001. Her Moon Ghost's progam, and Kristi Yamaguchi at Skate America in 1991. BTW, Kristi's performance would not have been considered a bomb by a lesser skater. She just had huge expectations being the local star and she failed to live up to them.

I have a feeling that we will see some crazy scoring this year. If Ashley goes "clean" (no major issue on her jumping passed), she will score 77-78+. Same for Gold even if I think they would put her slightly behind Wagner if both skate clean.
Regarding the next flight and after taking consideration the starting order, I think the results will be (also based on cleanish performances:
3.Edmunds 70+
4.Hicks 68+ (probably would have tied Edmunds if skating in the last group)
5.Wang (the surprise of the night with a stellar Rippon Loop and 3Z/3T. 67+
6.This is where I am thorn..I think Mirai will put up great SP but get dinged on the 3T in the combo still scoring 64-65. Also think Chen will get dinged on her 3T in her combo so virtually a tie for that 6th place.

Even the practice reports are super exciting!

Gracie has only truly "bombed" once that I can think of: the 2015 4CC FS. The worlds SP was bad, but I doubt that can truly be considered "bombing." I guess people are just referring to sorta-bad skates that knocked her out of contention as "bombs."

Also, I just realized something: the ladies will basically be a battle of Los Angeles (Gracie, Ashley, Courtney) vs. the Bay Area (Karen, Polina) vs. Colorado (Mariah, Mirai). Interesting.

I hope Angela can make the most of the starting order. Being in the last group, a perfect program could land her as high as 3rd.

I think it is cute that the Gold twins are second to last and second to skate.

I also think Ashley has the advantage here. Even if she does not do well, Ashely will likely have the crowd, and Gracie will have to hear/see that.

But Ashley has to bring it. She has often had problems on her short program. If she goes clean, I don't think Gracie can beat her in the short. Ashley skates the heck out of that program when she's on (Skate Canada). I say whoever (of Gracie and Ashley) skates the best short program will win the whole event.

I disagree. Gracie beat Ashley's SP score at TEB by over 2.5 points.

Now that we have Start Orders, does anybody know where the Warm-ups are going to be positioned?

Given that there are 22 entries, we could have:

3 groups of 4 skaters, and 2 groups of 5 skaters
2 groups of 5 skaters, and 2 groups of 6 skaters

I'm just asking, because I want to update the tables in the Original Post of the Predictions Thread, and I like having them divided up into the groups.

(By the way, you still have 2 hours until the target time to get your predictions in, and 3 hours until the first SP starts. So, there is still plenty of time to join in).

Here's the thing. If they both skate lights out. You have to give it to Gracie. There are very few skaters in the World who can beat Gracie IF she skates clean. Medvedeva with her back loaded programs and her cool Tano's comes to mind. Rod would be next and that's it. I don't think Riko can beat a clean Gracie. Maybe Mao could beat Gracie if they both skated perfectly but, I think that's it.

There's no maybe about it, if both ladies go 100% clean, Mao will beat Gracie hands down. But clean Gracie trumps clean Ashley.
