2016 World Championships Ladies SP

As sad as it is (for me at least), I don't see anyone but an American winning.
There will be everything - GOE and PCS games all over the place

I wish Russian and Japanese ladies to skate clean and not to be too sad about the judging...

Oh come on! You trust those two? At best I'm cautiously optimistic. At worst, I expect a meltdown. Realistically, I think one of them may hang on for the bronze.

And there hasn't been an American on the podium for ten years, so don't be too sad. Russia and Japan have won several medals since then. No, I don't know the actual number.

We got an absolutely amazing competition and yet it's still a farce?

OK then. From now on I guess there's no point taking anybody's opinion seriously. I suppose opinions are truly like assholes, all are ******.

By farce he's referring to the standings didn't end up the way he liked. Gold still deserves the lead, and the standings and gaps between skaters are pretty much as they should be - its just everyone was overscored (particularly Gold).

Doesn't change the fact that there were some stellar skates. And stellar skates outside the top skaters, like Daleman, Lin, Nagasu, Rodegheiro, Li, Choi, Knychenkova, Zhao, Wories. This is one of the cleanest ladies SPs at Worlds ever!

OMG WHAT HAS HAPPENED HERE?!?!?!?! GRACIE 76? ANNA IN 2ND? TOP 6 ALL 70+? GABBY AND RIKA WITH HUGE SBs? So much to go over. Maybe it's true that me not watching gives the ladies a better result...

1. Gracie Gold: Ridiculously overscored in PCS, but I loved her fire throughout the program! Hands-down her best performance of this lovely SP. Now will she be able to carry this greatness to the FS? The big question of this competition. :)
2. Anna Pogorilaya: O...M...G! NO WAY. ANNA IN 2ND? I'm so happy for her! She deserves to be leading the Russians, and although the score was pretty inflated as well, I'm happy that she performed the heck out of that great program.:yes2:
3. Evgenia Medvedeva: Too bad about the 3F, but she is still in a good position. With both Gracie and Anna surprisingly beating her, and having to skate after Lena in the free, I seriously don't know what to expect.
4. Ashley Wagner: Her reaction after the ending pose! Yes! Guys, this is a great demonstration of the musicality in a program that I love so much. Ashley's SP has been my favourite SP this season and I'm happy that she did so well here once more! Great job!
5. Elena Radionova: Selling the program as usual, and odd mistake on the 3F, but still, I loved the power she gave in her performance! I'm so excited to see her live in the FS this time!
6. Satoko Miyahara: No surprise here either, good job by Satoko. I love the audience interaction and that she really connected to what she was doing on the ice!
7. Rika Hongo: PCS was underscored! She deserved at least 32+ for that awesome skate! Great job Rika!
8. Gabrielle Daleman: YAAAAS! GABBY! WOOHOO! CLEAN! Thank you for entertaining me and the audience Gabby! I love her program, and when she's on, she is spectacular. Hoping she carries this momentum to the FS!
9. Mao Asada: Devastated that she's very out of the top 6. But nevertheless, it was great to see her still keep a smile even after all those mistakes and her ending reaction was cute! Hope she performs well in the FS.
10. Mirai Nagasu: Her score was quite lower than the others, but this was by far the best performance of this "Demons" SP. The crazy audience cries really helped too. Every moment was epic!
11. Zijun Li: Beautiful. Simply beautiful Zijun! If every moment was epic for Mirai, than every moment was beautiful for Zijun! And her fist-pumping was so adorable too!
12. Elizabet Tursynbaeva: Very big deduction on the 3Lz, but kudos to her for keeping the performance up and a good finish too. I really like her FS, so I hope she has a good showing of it here!
16. Da Bin Choi: Yay for Da Bin for being clean again! The fist-pumping was cute too! Most important thing: much better makeup than at 4CC. I'm serious! Anyway, she was probably the only skater honestly in this whole competition who I found was underscored. I mean, she got 23 for PCS at 4CC, but she got 21 here, when the two performances were on par. Yes, starting order and all that is a factor, but I just hope they don't do something like this for the FS.
22. So Youn Park:............excuse me while I go cry in the corner. :slink::sad21::sad14:

Her only mistake was a hand down on the axel, and a bit scratchy landing on the loop. no way in hell did this justify the huge scoring gap between her and the ones who placed above her. It's 13 points below her PB for a scatchy landing, I mean come on that is beyond harsh and BS, and once again why does Mao's PCS fall when everyone elses rises despite their mistakes, talk about different treatment, I get that they want new faces and mainly american on this podium but do they have to make it so disgustingly obvious, this is sooo ridiculous and cruel :slink:
how do they expect people to enjoy and take this sport seriously with inconsistent judging like this:palmf:

I can basically agree with this. I'm just not going to complain about overscoring/inflation when everyone's scores make sense relative to one another--I felt the same way about GPF, when everyone complained about Evgenia's PCS. Sure, they were high, but everyone was scored properly relative to one another, which is the most important thing, IMO.

I'm actually OK with the judging. I don't like Gracie and I think she's stiff and weird in her movements, but she was great, the best for sure (except maybe for Anna but this is figure skating, reputation counts since 1932). Evgenia deserved 3rd or 4th place, 73 with a mistake on the flip is huge, but reasonable given the level of scoring of the competition. I'm sorry for the JPN girls, but Rika got almost 70, a fair score, Mao almost 66, fair score as well, and Satoko scored almost 71 with an ur and a ! (deserved) on her flip (please, replace the flip with a 3loop!). Great competition overall.

Mao was the original target.

Agreed. As long as the standings and point spread is correct, the only grievous thing is stuff like Gold getting higher PCS than Kim's Sochi SP -- but that's just to be expected with the judges going buckwild on PCS this season + home inflation.

Gracie was amazing
Anna was amazing
Evgenia was amazing
Ashley was amazing

and you can keep going on with that through Li Zijun in 11th place. What an amazing event!

I'm not getting the pro-US judge conspiracy comments. Look at the make-up of the panel especially the tech specialist and controller. I know fans are disappointed when their favorites aren't at the top. I think the top 6 are very appropriately at the top. The podium is still anyone's game. C'mon folks - there was a lot of good skating today. Let's enjoy their success and cheer them on for Saturday!

Well actually the judging panel did their job to keep the suspense going. We also have to acknowledge that this was probably one of the best ladies, quality wise, event in recent history. So anyone would freak out and looking at those outliners on scoring sheets, some indeed did.

Yeah, lol.

Because c'mon, I'm no fan of Gracie but it's not like she won with a fall or is leading by 10 points. Sure, I think Pogo and Ashley were better but Gracie did pretty great too and that's what happens when home skaters do great skating nearly last.

I love Mao to death, but she made two big mistakes (in a short program with only 3 jump elements) and did not perform as well as she could. She can give us more face, more confidence, more freedom in her movements. She's gorgeous, but she can still improve in some areas. She is way more refined than someone like Ashley, but her performance level and projection are not quite as great as they could be.

Also, pretty much anyone from the top 7 can still win this. Medvedeva, who has been the top skater this whole season has the goods to win but is in her first Worlds and she looked visibly less confident than in other competitions. Radionova, Miyahara, and Hongo are fighters and pretty consistent but there are glaring weaknesses in their skating. Pogorilaya, Gold, and Wagner are more complete skaters but have had issues putting two good performances together.

Gold consistently beat Russians in PCS by 1.5-2 points all season even when she was off and that's what it came down to tonight. Had Evgenia not made mistake on 3F3T, she would have been much closer to Gracie but it would still have been nail biting close.

I agree except that I am pretty sure it won't be Hongo. The only Japanese that could spoil this US-Russia party is Satoko.

I was wondering, if all the posts that were about
-wuzrobbing
-dodgy judging
-homecooking
-judges got it wrong
were suddenly removed, this thread would probably be like ten pages? :laugh2:

Haha I was so happy to see so many girls here delivered... But I do think that scores are bit too much especially in PCS categories. I will put Gracie and Anna somewhere between 72-73 in any order, and then put Ash, Med within 70-71. While I pretty much agree with these girls' TES (not 3F for Gold though), I don't think that anybody in the last group deserved more than 33 PCS at least in my book. Overall I am glad to see US girls delivering when it counts, after all these years of being 'almost' on podium.. Alao glad to see Anna doing so well!!
