2017-19 Splits & Partner Changes

Are Müller/Dieck still competing?
A bit hard for Germany to build a long-term #1 partnership since Winkler/Lohse... (I count apart Zhiganshina/Gazsi, who needed time to get the support from the German fed...)

Yes, but they are searching sponsors.

Hey everyone ! @tim.dieck and I have the opportunity to take part on a vote where the winner can win a whole year of sponsorship! Everyone who knows figure skating and us knows how expensive our sport is...
There is also a second reason why Tim Dieck and I need this support more then others... we have a story not everyone knows about me ... During other athletes can be supported by the German army and get every month their salary I’m not able to be paid by one of the main supporters of our sport.
Since I’m 16 years old I’m struggling with epilepsy and that’s the reason why the army as well as the police can’t hire me.
So almost every costs we need to care about for practice my parents and I are carrying on ourselves. ( This are the main costs because we’re practicing not only in Germany. )
So please vote for us and share our story because I can put my hand on my heart and promise everyone that Tim and I are really hard workers and skate with the deepest passion inside us !
Thank you to everyone who already voted !!

Interesting that he gives her pretty much a perfunctory (and obligatory) "Yeah she's leaving, thanks and good luck to ya" and then spends the rest of that considerable instagram post on him him him. Interesting.

I noticed this statement, too: "I hope to find a partner who is passionate about skating, committed to our partnership and in it with a full heart." It might not have any significant meaning, though.

Based on their Instagram activity, it looks like Olivia Serafini (former junior ladies medalist) and Mervin Tran might be partnering together for pairs.

BUT, I am surprised that it is because Kavita is retiring. I thought that she would have wanted to carry on competing for another cycle. Like, she is still young for an ice dancer. (Hey, she's only 3 months older than Joti!)

I am surprised that it has been announced as a retirement as well. She made it to the Olympics so it is possible that is enough of a goal for her. But I don't always give up on young dancers who retire. She hasn't posted anything herself yet that I have seen. Perhaps she has other goals she wishes to chase. But also sometimes dancers need a break from the relationship and ultimately find themselves drawn back into dance when a different opportunity arises.

I really enjoyed Muller & Dieck's programs this season as well. They broke their personal best record more than once this season. Felt like it was a good battle for Germany this year. Won fairly with Lorenz & Polizoakis's beautiful FD, but also nice to see more than one team demonstrate growth & success for Germany. It was a shame that L&P pulled out late from Euros and that M&D didn't get a chance to go, as they did grow as a team this season and have a program worth watching.

I’m really excited for this, I really like her skating and she has nice jumps. The throw 3S she posted looks really good.

I am not making a comment on Serafini but he failed to jump with Marissa, and his Canadian previous junior pairs champion partner so its not Olivia's skills in question here. He needs to make his own competition statement and deliver for his partner.

How about Lubov? Any rumors or informations about her partner? (Personally think she and Mervin can be a great team for Canada)

I don’t think she’ll really retire, it’s been only a year she became Canadian and she never competed at the Olympics😢

Mervin failed to land jumps in *competition* with both of his previous partners. I hope the new partnership is different but I have some doubts. I had high hopes for Mervin and Marissa because they both have such great SS but the jumps eluded them. Easy to show one good jumping pass on instagram , hard to reproduce it in competiton. But, I hope this pair proves me wrong. I like Mervin.

the point i should have elaborated about : SBS jumps for pairs = question of timing. To syncrho jumps, one needs to adapt his technique... Lubov was landing jumps with her previous partner but with Dylan, she always rushed her entrance and fell or doubled.... Mervin has had issues with previous partners, fair enough... but to see him try a jump we never saw him try, and land it in synch right away with the new partner is more than encouraging... as Kirsten (who knows him well as she tried with him before Marinaro) pointed out in the instagram post, Olivia jumped bigger than he did... so he would have to beef it up... what if that was exactly the problem??? I don't think Castelli had huge jumps and perhaps adapting to her made his jumps smaller and impossible to land... SBS jumps is a team effort.... if one of the partners falls, it's because they both need to work on timing.... I never liked Tran-Castelli that much... i thought they were better with their respective previous partners. We will see what he can do next though I am not sure why he wants to stay to the USA under current circumstances... of course, it makes no sense to try to compete for Canada...even with the retirement of two of the top teams.

I am a little tired of him switching partners and countries. But I guess he does what he does for the love of skating. I am okay with him ending up with one world bronze medal. I almost feel like if he switches a country again that he shouldn't be allowed in the team competition lol.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but is Marissa retiring or is she looking for another partner?

Such a great pairs girl but never really had the right partner, sadly. (Though it kind of seems like she should've paired up with Tim LeDuc when she had the chance.)

I don't wish any splits on any pairs, but I can picture Marissa with Brandon Frazier or Danny O'Shea. Haven't heard anything though about what Marissa is up to. I liked Marissa and Mervin together, although I was always holding my breath when he threw her.

Adding - I am only envisioning this and dreaming. I love Tarah & Danny's and Haven & Brandon's partnerships. I've always thought of Marissa as such a firecracker and can picture her skating with these 2 guys.

Not Brandon or Danny.

I could see her with someone like Utah Ernie Stevens though, since his partner and he split.

Wait, Tarah Kayne and Haven Denney have split from their partners? I don't remember reading that

no, just probably our dream pairings/visions for these...I honestly do not picture Tarah/Danny and Haven/Brandon having a split...

No please! That's why I started out by saying "I don't wish splits on any pairs"! I will change my post.
