2017-2018 Programs by Discipline

No offense because I love Shae-Lynn as a person, skater, and choreographer, but if you really take a good look, you can see her "style" in every single one of the programs she does. I'm not here hating or saying this is good or bad, but it's definitely there.

Well, maybe I'll start watching with an eye to seeing it. Could improve my discernment.

I think one also has to especially mention Seimei. Was there ever a more competitive programme that allowed the skater to go out on the ice and look that powerful and in control, and which allowed the skater to skate that on top of the music, and that assertively? Now, that was choreography that helped the skater go out there and get the points whilst being optimally artistic.

Hanyu chose the music himself and he also controlled the music cuts. It is said that he had 33 versions of Seimei. Certainly the choreographer helps a lot but not all.

Hanyu is the master of skating on top of the music; and that is reflected in his attitude in general: no disagreement from me there.

In the sober light of day, I think I'll keep my own vision, and watch for the way Shae-Lynne individualizes the programs for her skaters.

I see it too! And I see it as a good thing. Her choreography is modern, original, and, I don't know how to word it really, fierce? In a way that is original to her. Though her softer compositions can easily be mistaken for Jeff Buttle. Both are super modern and unique, but Buttle's choreography has something a little softer and more flowy about it than most of Shae-Lynn's choreo.

Lori Nichol has a definite style, and people tend to hate on her choreography since she's been around so long her work seems stale. But then she comes out of nowhere with a masterpiece like Carolina's Bolero or Sui/Han's Bridge Over Troubled Water that are so brilliant and so un-Lori-like. (Carolina's Ave Maria is a prime example of brilliant AND Lori-like.)

Oh course...it should have her influence of style because she is creating and designing the program, the skater is the vehicle that displays it. You can say the same about any choreographer honestly. However, Lori Nichol for example, doesn't have competition programs on YouTube one can analyze and compare "style" wise to programs she creates for others. So I think it's an obvious and unfounded criticism to make of a creative that creates works of art to complain that you see their style in their works. Duh, you should see it....that's why they are good at what they do and are hired for their personal aesthic in hopes of bringing that style out in the skater they are working with. Also, respect that Shae Lynn is also an accomplished skater in her own right.

Does anyone know who's coaching him? I believe he had been spending time in Italy but his primary training center was Obertsdorf with Michael Huth (former coach of Carolina Kostner and Tomas Verner), correct? Now that he's training in Moscow, I'm wondering who his coach is.

Hoping he has a better season. Two seasons ago looked promising, but last season was a struggle. Really enjoy his skating, and he seems to have such an outgoing personality!

ETA: According to Lynn Rutherford, her FS is to "Fascination" which is choreographed by Catarina Lindgren.
