2017 Europeans Ladies FS

Then it would be her wings that burn and she'd know the limit has been reached. Until then, she'll have had a lot of fun. And not winning once is no big deal.

Agreed. I don't think she'll play around at Worlds though -- unless she has a massive lead over the field after the SP or she skates last knowing others can't touch her.

I think the real question is, why does it bother you so much? :handw:

because this act has become arrogant to someone since the overscoring makes her look like she is the best skater and judges allow her to show off by "breaking the rules" yet she still wins despite receiving a small penalty. This is clear favouring and spoiling from the judges

But her difficulty is allright. And the quality is great too. Spins, jumps...She has everything.

Her jumps are still rather muscle-y in the entries but she's def getting better.

Ofc her difficulty is alright--she's winning everything spectacularly. But before Zhenya, no one thought that 80 in the SP could be reached without a triple axel or at least a 3Lz-3Lo. Obviously we're being proven wrong but it's not really pushing the sport in an interesting direction. Should everyone take after her and start backloading and tanoing all their jumps from now on? Is that really what we want to keep seeing from the best of ladies figure skating?

Unlike the men, the ladies haven't met the technical peak of the discipline yet. No quads, no 3As, not even clean 3-3Lo combos. I would love to see someone come a long and just bring back the simple threat of having the hardest jumps. And given Evgenia's consistency, she could be the one to do it.

By going with scores alone, Evgenia's SP + LP are the highest ever. The LP is also highest ever. I don't think those programs are in the top 50 best programs ever skated, let along the highest. The scoring system is really messed up. Evgenia's team deserves all the credit for exploiting the system to their advantage though.

I'd say her PCS are about 10 points too high. Her SS is not in the 9s if you compare her to people who have good skating skills. Her TR is ok, she does a lot of transitions, but they are still basic skills, not like Hanyu's or Patrick's transitions. Somehow she's getting transition score like the best men's.

CH is another ridiculous score. Those programs are just bad. IN is also bad. Only PE is deserved.

Basically 8 for SS, 8.5 for TR, 7 for CH, 7.5 for IN, 9 for PE. Don't know how they got everything 9+.

Judges did not allow her to break the rules. She was duely panalized per scoring rules.

Now maybe the next argument would be that doing an extra combo jump hurts the performance like a fall does?

I sense there is quite a bit of Medvedeva's disliking here.

First, let me say that although I might appear as a crazy Medvedeva fan, I'm well aware of her weaknesses : no true lutz, her interpretation on this 9/11 program is questionable (I myself didn't really like it the first time I saw it, and I perfectly understand why people would deem some of her expressions in that program inappropriate). Plus, I'm personally not a fan of her "tanos" and some of her spins positions, and I absolutely loathe her boots (though, at least, she dropped half over the boots tight, so that's a relief haha). Now, I still have mixed feeling with the voiceover during the step sequence but overall, I like the music and the potential mood of the program (and yes, I agree it'd be more appropriate to keep it more tragic in the second half than she did here and at Russian nationals).

BUT, her consistency continues to amaze me. I find she's got great connection with the audience, and I just love her gorgeous face and self-confidence. And the "girl" is just 17, so couldn't you just give her a break ?

Let's think that ladies are progressing at a slower pace:)

You can bet people will be hoping for her to fall on that extra 3T.

Maybe Anna Tsareva will try to ice-queen-stare her down. :p

I, for one, will be rooting for her... slayyyy, showboat, do 5x triple toes -- force the ISU to have meetings to change the rules because of you -- show them all you're the damn ka-weeen.

In my perfect Olympics, Evgenia learns to do a backflip and does it at the very end of her 7-triple (plus 3 extra triple toes) program and gets deducted for an illegal move, takes her sweet time with her final poses to get a time violation, and rips a glove off and drops it on the ice, not caring about the costume deduction.... and still wins by 10 points.

Last season, tons of people were complaining about how the Zayak rule was too punitive. Now, I guess the rules don't go far enough in punishing skaters. Not only that, the judges also have to determine 'intent' when it happens too? :con3:

I just think it's hilarious and unbelievably fierce that the ISU changes the Zayak rule to make it easier/lenient on skaters who Zayak and so Medvedeva takes that as a green light to deliberately ADD more jumps.

As long as there is no point deduction for a fall. Or should she push with 4 falls and get the extra kick-in-the-face-when-you're-down deduction and still wins?

TAT was very vocal and in fact she had an argument with her co-host tonight about Anna. Basically, she said that Anna was not lucky to have skate after Kostner as the enormous difference in PCS is way too obvious.

And I am not sure what some people are smoking, that was very rough skate from Pogo, she saved the 3L-3T combo but most of those jumps were very bad. And she can not afford that as she has nothing else really.

Today, yes. But usually she is a very expressive and artistic skater

She is having fun in a program about tragedy.
If she wants to have fun, maybe she/her team should have chosen a different theme. It comes across as disrespectful.

she is just human and having a moment
she is teenager for God's sake!

TAT is as always biased. I bet she liked Sostkova :yahoo:

Anna actually has excellent skating skills and beautiful edges -- it's the first thing I noticed when I first saw her skate... her jump unfortunately have this "subdued, controlled" landing which trivializes them a bit instead of making them highlights within the program. It makes it look a bit robotic. I thought her PCS was pretty on point actually.

"Very rough" is not how I would characterize it. She made no major errors, and accounted for the 3Z no-combo at the beginning by switching it to a 3Z+3T and then a 3L+3S later. It came across as a bit scrappy but it showed great fight. In the past, she has DEFINITELY had skates that are legitimately "very rough".

LMAO... could you imagine... at the very end says, "Oh, I can afford a fall!" *death drops to the ice* https://media.giphy.com/media/eroy7AoB8XOKc/giphy.gif

Thats not her style =P
I think she would rather jump all jumps as combos, which would be fine by me.

Also, lol for medvedeva haters - as usual, when a rule is bad to your fav skaters, the rule is evil, and when its bad to skaters you dislike, the rule isn't harsh enough.
