Looking at the protocols... some judges gave Boyang 9's for SS and TR :scratch2: I am not hating him but that is just not correct, right?
It shouldn't be, but he's not American so there won't be pages on pages and 3 threads complaining about it.

I agree with others that Patrick's PCS was way to low though.

Only in the crazy state of PCS inflation could 94 be considered too low. There's certainly at least 6 points worth of "better skating/performing" possible compared to what he put out, likely more. It's really just that Fernandez and others (Nathan Chen, notably) were overscored on PCS.

Congrats to Yuzuru, Shomo, and Boyang!! Well deserved medals although my sentimental heart was hoping Javi and Patrick could each pull off one more Worlds medal each for the 'old' guys! My heart was breaking all over the place! I LOVE each and every guy in the final flight as well as Jason in the penultimate group! ALL the skaters did their respective countries proud! Good fight!

My baby boy Nathan, you are only 17 and good things are to come! :luv17: :clapper: He fought hard out there! I wonder if his boots were an issue? He posted a pic of his skates tied up with hockey laces to make them tighter per his coach's recommendation. But no excuses! He was a little bit off his game but hung in there for 6th and 3 spots at next year's Games for the U.S.!

Top 6 for his rookie Worlds debut and securing 3 spots at next year's Olympics for the U.S. along with Jason is all kinds of awesomeness!! And Jason! Top 7 against an arsenal of quads!! It speaks to his tremendous skating skills and superb artistry that he scored so well and in spite of a fall!

I just want to give all the skaters a big bear hug! <3

Sexy Javi couldn't hang on to his World title but he's got an 'it' factor that no one else has and hopefully he'll come back even stronger for the Olympic season!

Yuzuru was just sublime! Well deserved score and gold medal! Shoma was wonderful too although his jumps were not all as crisp as Yuzuru's, and SpidyBoyang is improving more and more with his artistry to go along with his huge jumps!

Brown definitely had in some ways the most impressive competion. Just ignore everyone saying quads are the path to success and not only that double a triple. IJS rewards all technical elements. Plus pcs of 89! He must remove quad toes from his long program. Just do all triples. He didn't need quads or only clean triples.

I didn't have the energy to get up for the men after the :drama: of the ladies. Go Yuzu for finally getting the WG! Go Shoma for silver! And GO JASON AND NATHAN FOR GETTING 3 OLYMPIC SPOTS!!!!!

Are there any real standouts I should go back and watch?

PS- where's the free dance thread?

H&L >>>>>> SEIMEI.

Yes, I meant it. :handw:

Even though for me both are great programs.

I agree with your assessment and not really because of the scores each program received but because in"Hope and Legacy," Yuzuru was performing his figure skating life story so it was that special. I am glad he performed it best at Worlds. :)

The problem with Nathan's boots is that they broke so quickly. They were hard to skate in, but having a backup pair that WAS broken in (but not broken down) would probably be hard too. If the ones he wore today had been unskateable and he'd have to wear a brand new pair that wasn't broken in, the skate might have been ever rougher.

He did the best that he could under the circumstances. Plus Yuzuru just broke a WR and he heard it just as he got on the ice. It's bad luck, but I consider bad luck good luck in some ways. If he can deal with the pressure of bad boots, skating right after Yuzuru three times, and dealing with this massive pressure of being the US new it skater the. Next year will be easier for him. Especially since he won't be a reining medalist. Now he can work on developing his PCS scores more instead of adding more quads.

It's probably existing but hidden.

Mrs. P just posted though so she's probably going to pull it up soon.

bleeding glitter sounds very much like a rumble broke out at the dance club.
I was sad for Javi too. I love Javi. Shoma is my favourite even though my money is always on Hanyu.

Well I do live in the San Francisco Castro so the dance club fights here mostly end up in glitter wars... or MDMA-fueled verbal tweaked-out beat downs. :eeking:

Hanyu is a killer skater who should win when he skates clean though. My money was not on him doing that so I lose. :(

And my poor, sexy Javi. Hopefully Miki will console him soon. Heh. ;)

That's great! I also love out anthem. It's unlike other anthems, it's so soft and calm, but it's amazing to hear after victories in sports.

Btw, you are Norwegian? Heh, I love Norwegian ski jumpers and biathletes, I even learned a little bit of Norwegian.

Ja! Born and raised in Oslo to a Russian dad and Spanish mom. Now live in SF.

The Czech anthem is so calm and beautiful...

Wish I could say that about our anthem though. After going to college in the US and living here for a long time, the first notes of the Norwegian national anthem now just sound like "Deck the Halls" to me. :drama:

There is one thing I seriously can't understand: How does it that this thread doesn't even have 100 pages?

No six quads from Nathan. No controversial PCS from Patrick or Nathan. That's what fuels these arguments. If Javi had gotten bronze with his flawed skate over Boyan;, then maybe that would be discussed. Right now we're over the moon for Yuzuru. That skate was EPIC!

The men's competitions in the last group is truly a visual feast! Finally Yuzuru did it at the right time! Simply perfect! :2thumbs: You can never know how much I have been worrying about his health... I am so silly that even my little brother often laughs at me, who is a super football fan, but he usually loves what I love. Javier and Jason are his favorites. :cool2:

Are you really try to understand PCS? No point of doing this, judges are doing what they want with them. I love Boyang but he got these for his great skate, just like Nathan does these days.

Are they planning a reset of the values or anything? I mean the PCS specifically. The system is in need of it. They've run out of marks at the top and aren't distinguishing between competitors well. For example there should have been a way to reward Yuzu for an excellent performance without giving him 10s. We've seen him perform more complete programs more convincingly so it's hard to look at the scores with a straight face these days. Ultimately I still think this system requires way too much multitasking for human beings to do in a short space of time.

Having said that, I am completely fine with the placements, and those are more important to me.

Now that was one of a competition...

MCM
... clearly ain't perfect on the jumps but nonetheless a lovely performance.

Yuzuru... OMG, my prayers answered now I must do what I bargained. A win for Yuzuru in exchange for going to Church, I prayed. THAT. WAS. AWESOME.

Nathan... Obviously his jumps were off. Being the quad king a fall at the start isn't something I'd expect but err... But more than that, it's as if he's missing his usual Vigor.

Boyang... this program is really hilarious. Good job and congratulations Boyang!

Shoma... not quite a favorite program but a great job and congratulations for winning silver.

Misha... that was lovely to watch. Always pours his heart out to his performances. Good work! But... his last skate????

Dennis... I loved loved this program at WU. But another meltdown following 4CC. Still, a lovely stsq.

Pstrick
... A few mistakes but an overall lovely performance. Though PCS could've been a little higher imo.

Javier.. og gosh no. I was hoping for him to finish second. Despite the missed jumps, he still did what he does best. Entertain. So good fight in that perfomance.

With the exception of Javier... my boys did really well. Congratulations to the medallists! :hap10:

It's interesting that neither European champion or Four Continents champion made it to the podium.

Lol. Actually it was due to my crystal ball prediction

Odd numbers do well: Yuzu 1, Boyang 3, Shoma 5
Even numbers do bad: Nathan 2, Patrick 4, Javi 6

Congratulations to all medalists! So happy for Boyang and Hanyu, well deserved scores for perfect skating!!!

So sorry for Patrick and Javier. Patrick's problem is either time of peaking or psychological. It is almost alway the case that his best skate would be at nationals. If only he skated his best at World or Olympics.

I agree, we all know that Nathan has the technical goods. Now, he just needs to find the right balance to showcase the technical goods and himself when he's not jumping. He made big strides from last year to this year, so who knows what will happen come next year.

Well, I'm no quad hater, I think they can be thrilling, but ... today I found myself counting quads, especially in the final flight. That is a loss. Maybe I'm alone in feeling this, and maybe it's lack of sleep on my part.:dbana: I'm usually not counting quads, thrilled by each one's performance and how each skater has a totally unique style, talent and strength. I usually love Nathan's quads and am not thinking about the number, just responding to the beauty and awesomeness that he usually shows (not today, so sad about the broken down skates).

The only exception was, I wasn't counting Javi's quads, becuase I knew from the article yesterday that he planned 3, so that he wouldn't lose what he's best at, which is integrating the whole,, with the music, audience connection etc.

All that counting did interfere with my enjoyment of the programs. I did thrill to Boyang's performance, which means more because I'm sick to death of that Charlie Chaplin music!
