Daisuke did what he came to do and exceeded his goal by far. He's a humble man, a real star and has class in spades. He did this for himself and not to humiliate his fellow competitors. He deserves every second of joy.

Thank you Daisuke for being so gracious but I hope Keiji uses the spot well. His international performances have been disappointing lately and I don’t expect much from him anymore.

Keiji is surely a very lucky guy. He doesn't have to face the same field than Mihara. The guy bombs every event he enters since 2017, but he always find away to not totally bomb at nats, gets nice scores, and then spots for big events.

+1.

I believe he is an expert in Nats and actually he has a higher ceiling...
I hope Keiji will do well in 4CC first...

I hope there will be a fluffy fluff piece with the medalists, or at least an interview with them all teasing each other. I deserve this! :agree:

Fair enough. I hope that next season if he still wants to skate he perhaps does some Challenger Series competitions? I’d be nice to have a chance to see him skate in person.

Guess I'm still unhappy about the decision to send Keiji to Worlds when Kazuki has had better international results. He couldn't deliver at Worlds or 4CC last season even though there was little pressure. Kazuki on the other hand, has shown great promise and needs to get used to high pressure settings. Jsf should decide who to fill the 3rd spot after 4CC.

Shun had 2nd highest TES and 2nd lowest PCS...:palmf: I hope that next season he will get JGP assignments

No Hanyu for 4CC? Perhaps JFed knows more about his injury?

JSF contacted Yuzuru's side and he will work hard to be ready for Worlds. It was probably his decision not to go to 4CC (not the first time he did that). It's better not to rush recovery. And even without injury, fans were expecting him to skip.

Maybe, but equally maybe they simply want to take no chances. Having Yuzuru at Worlds in Japan is something pretty much the whole country want and expect... if that means wrapping him in cotton wool till then, I imagine they will all agree, so be it.

I wish I understood JSF’s love for Keiji. It’s not that I dislike him — and I think whomever came up with his free programme this year was actively trying to sabotage the poor guy — but he’s really never had a track record of consistency and his results this season have been lackluster. Kazuki hasn’t had an ideal season either, but at least he snagged a GP medal and is a promising talent who hasn’t been fully tried yet. It makes more sense to said Kazuki to Worlds in my opinion, but such is life.

I would love it if Keiji could pull off two clean skates at Worlds, though. It’s a shame, but I sort of expect him to pop and fall at this point. :/

.
Crazy. Judges score him as if he is a terrible skater while he's not. I hope that he will work on artistic side during summer without lowering the tech.

Daisuke Takahashi is a man of his word. He said that this second career was dedicated to himself, and sure enough, he's the only one happy with the current situation.

The fans certainly wanted to see him in Saitama. The JSF was much more willing than I expected to send him there. Keiji Tanaka certainly did not want to advance in such a manner. But D1SK came in like a tornado to grab everyone's attention (and sell a LOT of towels!), and now he sits back to admire the destruction. He's gotten the love from the fans and the grudging respect from his peers that he so desperately seems to have needed, and he doesn't need to shoulder the responsibility that goes along with that.

He skates for himself.

You certainly seem to always look on the bright side of things. :sarcasm: He's the only one happy with the current situation? He is sitting back enjoying the destruction? I don't know what you think you've watched happening this weekend, but I did watch something else entirely.

One thing sure is right though - he skates for himself. And he has every right to. It's his life, and he doesn't owe anyone anything. Call it selfish and destructive and bad for Japan's men. I just simply do not see what difference it would've made to anyone BUT Daisuke if he hadn't come back and skated at Nationals.

I agree. He's earned this second career, he earned his second place finish, and he earned his national team spot that he turned down.

That everyone else looks bad is everyone else's fault. And this should really be a wake-up call to them, because D1SK might very well decide that he wants to compete on the world stage in 2020. Or 2022.

I don't think it makes anyone look bad. Daisuke T is a living legend for figure skating and in the FS there were lots of shining talents that have much potential. Sota and Shun both landed clean 4Ts. Shoma was incredible and fought bravely. Kazuki received low scores because he was robbed in PCS, otherwise he also landed a clean quad combo. Tatsui and Sena showed their guts and potential to be high scoring junior skaters next year as well. Japan is swimming in depth right now, don't know why you feel the need to be so salty?

Japan's People's Honor, the World's honor. Never underestimate Mr Hanyu.
