Ok, someone needs to explain to me why do professional skaters (like even top 5 world skaters) seem to jump so close to the walls? Like, you have the entire rink at your disposal, why push that jump so close and risk even a 1% chance to hit the wall?

Is there some kind of incentive (like extra points) for jumping close to the wall?

Many reasons One of the requirements for choreography is that elements should utilize the whole ice surface, that is actually 'balanced choreography'. So jumps should be placed around the ice surface, and some of them at the corners. But most of the skaters place harder jumps in one corner of the rink, the one which became the safest place for the jump, the one where jump is mostly trained and mostly landed. Its easier to jump at the corners than at the middle of the rink, because in first case you have a border and in second case you have an empty space where its harder to mentally visualize the jumps mehanic and landing of it. Also, its harder for some of the judges to see the edge and UR at specific corners of the rink, so...
