2018 Olympic Figure Skating Free Dance

Hubbell / Donohue

Almost lost it on the second set of twizzles (Level 3). Wonderful serpentine step sequence with careful edges (Level 4). Wonderful center on the multidirectional lift (Level 4). Beautiful diagonal step sequence with deep curves (Level 3). Great curve line lift and a stunning, new stationary lift with many changes of position. Great ice coverage on the spread eagle lift. Wonderful series of choreo twizzles and spins, almost fell out of the choreo twizzles.

The twizzles don't seem to be as secure and the choreographic twizzles seems to have gotten no score, perhaps gone over the time limit. Yep, on the replay, it seems that Donohue lost it on the slip on the last twizzle sequence with a tiny fall there. Ouch, that's going to be costly. So sad for them. Such a shame on that last element. Poor Donohue...

Lol at the Shibs keeping the US afloat with them being the only medalists here (most likely) and at 2017 worlds :points:

Awww. My favorites end up 4th two Olympics in a row. :(

It'll be easier to accept this one since it was a pretty sloppy free skate but it still sucks.

Well done Shibs.

Loved P/C's dance and I don't want to take any of this away from them but... did anyone else feel that the program was a teeny bit overscored? I felt all the levels were accurate and I don't know enough about GOE to really say anything about that, but the PCS scores were definitely the highest I've ever seen. Thoughts?

They're dance technique is by far better. Actual straightnening of legs and core placement so that the woman doesn't look like she's being flung around? WHAT A CONCEPT!

Exactly. As a fellow woman, it’s always nice when routines don’t treat us as props to be thrown around.

Plus, their routines are just one of a kind. “Ice princess” is well-defined and easy to copy; nuance and this kind of gothic romanticism ... not so much.
