2018 Olympic Figure Skating Free Dance

The New York Times' article on the ice dance event tries to offer some explanation as to what went down.

It is impossible to read the judges’ minds, but George Rossano, editor of the website Ice Skating International, said, “My crystal ball says if they didn’t have the mishap yesterday, they would have had enough points to win gold.”

At the same time, Rossano said, “today, their program needed to be mesmerizing and it wasn’t. It was emotional and touching but it wasn’t mesmerizing. And I think that kind of program has to be mesmerizing to win.”

So what competition is freeman21 talking about? 'Cause I saw V/M congratulate the Shibs several times tonight; including on the podium!

I saw the same thing sowcow. In fact they congratulated the Shibs before they congratulated PC. Don't know what feed freeman21, was watching :scratch2:

Anyone else responding to the blandness of the athletic gear worn during awards ceremony? V/M look sharp while the couples on either side look...monochromatic and the color is just white. Canada has the crispness of color placement plus their country sure is identified. This is not important, I know, but we used to have pretty sharp designs in our Olympic wear.

omg i am suuuuuper thrilled for tessa and scott. They were amazing yesterday. They came out and performed like the true champions that they are offering such a mesmerizing moment.Personally imo that was the best olympic moment so far,so many emotions, breathtaking! On the other hand me watching their performance,it felt like i died(from anxiety)and then i was born again(thank you judges for that, you saved a humans life).I ve never screamed more in a performance. Also scott s reaction after the scores were announced was just sooo scott like:rofl:b
Gabby and cizeron are impeccable but that sd really hurt them..Kudos for fighting till the very end they will surely make it in four years(plus, gabby please burn that ungrateful dress)
The shibs were underrated-period,thank God they got their bronze and i can finally breath peacefully.
sorry for madison and evan, super happy for b,s c,l they both delivered.

Well, I'm sad. I told myself before the games I would sacrifice a P/C win for a Yuzuru win and here we are. I agree with the placement, and hopefully it means Gabriella and guillaume will not have to fear being assassinated. They brought so much to ice dance. They deserve to be recognized for it. Also the audience reaction to V/M is kinda basic. OMG they are so sexy! Cue fangirl screaming.
I am disappointed in the end it is the camp of people that were vicious, demeaning and verbally abusive in great numbers that won.

And we all know that in four years people will not be rooting for P/C no matter what they say now. Not with the Parsons, and Soucisse and Firus. It will be the same war. Do not act like you support them and you think they will just collect their gold in Beijing.

Dick Button tweeted: Virtue/Moir- their skate will be an iconic Olympic skating moment
also: Want to congratulate the Shib Sibs @ShibSibs on a beautiful skate and a powerful showing of musicality, artistry and theater

or the kerrs.

but let the people who want to remind everyone for the 98456976436th time that the shibutanis are SIBLINGS (and that means honestly nothing but w-e), lest we forget, do their thing. i'm sure they think their forum contributions are eye-opening to everybody.

I never liked the Kerrs. All of their skates that I remember they were doing some weird spacy stuff, although now in hindsight, understanding ice dance much better than I did then, I see why their options were limited.

For me P/C created a moment like Scott and Tessa did in Vancouver. The audience was silent. It was mesmerizing.

I could not be happier with the result - best FD for the French and another gold for Virtue and Moir.

I just wish another US team had been given a chance for a medal in the team event.

The Kerrs might not have the top skills but their choreography was always interesting.

I'm sorry for them. But what would Ice Dance be without such wars? it was so boring back in 2006 when the gold was known before the competition.
I wish for them to evolve and take the next 3 seasons to explore different styles, and take the sport further, their career is far from over, this is just their first Olympic achievement.

I think they had no other choice. After Nathan's disastrous short and Bradie's laughable PCSs, they needed to switch the single skaters in order to secure the bronce, leaving the US dance champions, like we say in Mexico, "dressed and excited" (vestidos y alborotados).

Ok let’s talk about the judging. Should the Skate Canada President have been judging? Nope. I’ll agree to that. Should the Polish judge be looked at for giving the exact same scores to both teams? Yes, I think so. Was the gold medal deserved tonight? Yes, definitely

What's wrong with the Polish judge giving the same scores?

V/M had one extremely biased judge for them on this panel (Canada) vs 3 for P/C (China, USA, Turkey)
