I'm just. I'm just so mad. I'm so mad because you're world champion for two years and you miss one competition, and you're finished. You work on artistry, and they hand the same PCS to someone fresh out of juniors. It's infuriating. It's painful. It's sad.

IJS might have helped push the tech, but it's also stifled art.
I'm heartbroken. But I'm also furious.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Evgenia didn't start losing to Alina because she missed the GPF and Russian Nationals. She started losing to Alina because her jump quality has declined and she didn't improve her skating. Alina is able to beat Evgenia at her own game, with even more backloading, better consistency, better lutzes, harder combinations, better spins, and a higher base value. Yes, Evgenia deserves better components than Alina but both have been so overmarked versus the rest of the field, one can hardly say that Evgenia deserves even more. It's just that the components advantage wasn't enough to offset Alina's technical advantage.

Well, I may be completely wrong but I think she can be thrilled to win gold, but also upset/sad for Evgenia not winning gold. I think that's how many of us feel right now. I was rooting for Alina, but also heartbroken that Evgenia lost gold. I also think that Alina skated more tentatively, so I would have given it to Medvedeva. Having said that, I don't think Evgenia skated completely lights out either. I think Evgenia really peaked last year at WTT. That performance would have won Olympic gold tonight IMO. Anyway, I think they were both nervous under a lot of pressure. However, they don't seem to crumble like the US ladies.

Ultimately, I wish the best for both Russian ladies, and hope neither of them disappears from the Russian skating scene. Oh, and I am SO HAPPY for Kaetlyn Osmond. She should be SO thrilled and proud of herself.

Nope. Because of the scoring system as it stands and the insane depth of Eteri skaters, in two years these ladies will be buried. Devastating!

I am going to go there and mention she-who-must-not-be-named ... Evgenia will be considered a greater skater and legend than Adelina Sotnikova. Even with her silver Olympic medal.

So many of the greats never got the OGM..... Janet Lynn, Michelle Kwan, Mao Asada, etc. Evgenia has joined a club full of amazing skaters that have won the silver medal, and the lack of the gold isn't going to make a difference in how she is remembered.

She is nowhere (yet) near the skaters you mentioned, the skaters you mentioned are great artists who demonstrate the highest form of aesthetics of this sport. I wish to see Evgenia improve in the future, but she is not yet on the same level as Mao and Michelle.

Sadly, I suspect none of these girls are going to be anywhere near podium contenders. Rika Kihira will probably be a senior with 3 triple axels across the SP+LP. Trusova may do 2 quad, 7-triple LP with a lutz-loop combo. The youngins' are coming with a insane technical arsenal.

Yes, but it's also a lot easier to jump triple axels and quads (not that it's easy but easier) when you're younger. So who knows if Rika at age 19 in 2022 can still do those triple axels or if she'll lose them. I imagine if there's a young one with crazy techs it'll be like a Zagitova that comes up out of no where at like 14 on the junior circuit in 2021 and turns 15 just in time for the games.
