2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens FS

I know I've hated on them plenty but it really sucks to see how much Tara and Johnny have ruined the viewing experience of these events. No commentators are perfect but they're really up their with the most unpleasant of the bunch.

NBC had stuck with them becuase of ratings. Surprisingly a lot of people wants to see them on tv.

Keiji’s interview for NHK (rough translation): I am regretful (kuyashii) about the skate but it was a treasure-of-a-lifetime experience.

I wouldn’t care if they were unpleasant if they actually provided helpful technical knowledge, which should be right in their wheelhouse, whereas Hamilton was always a hypeman.

What’s funny is that I’ve done that same job (commentating a live event that’s highly confusing if you don’t know the intricacies) and... they add nothing. Literally nothing. So as a fellow commentator, I rank them last and demand Lipinski go do perform some satisfactory compulsory figures if she wants to talk about her “anniversary.”

Normally I'd totally hate a program with too little between jumps. But Nathan won me over. 6 f**king quads and 24 revolutions. RESPECT. (his pcs is on point actually)

:agree: Just the joy with which he skated, and the passion he shows count for a lot. There was a lot of power in that performance. Transitions and such aren't the whole story.

A couple of years ago, you'd have never convinced me I'd care so much about a kid whose strength in skating is multiple quads. Nathan's won me over so many times. And to do that skate, after last night. Whew.

I honestly that doesn't end up being the case. Nathan was incredibly overscored so who knows ... Maybe you're right.

I have a different way of thinking if INDEED TES do affect PCS. 6 quads FS is such an increidble Olympic historical record that do deserves 2 or 3 points bonus. Also perhaps judges felt generous and feel sorry for him, so that may have had some tilt effect too, human emotions is a funny thing. It is not like he will get the gold so that let them feel even more generous.

However...given we have a slight inflation already, let's see how it impact other's PCS. This may be the catalyst for inflation like Lepisto's scoring back in Vancouver days that impact the rest of the field. Who knows... if Hanyu/Javier delivers, we may see 98+ PCS at this rate... Although I still want Patrick to reign if he skates clean with the 3A.

Chen quads are so bland. He is practically standing still on every landing with no speed and basically just unwraps his free leg of the other one. Also the pcs is ridiculously high. It was basically a jump marathon.

I'm glad Nathan gave at least one performance that was successful at the Olympics. Great technical stuff going on but not gonna lie, it was pretty boring to watch artistically. I don't really remember what happened in it besides a bunch of jumps so uh yeah...
I really hope Yuzu gets another gold!!

Rude of Dick Button as Australia in a whole is not a winter sports nation and any funding winter sports gets, it goes to snow boarders and other outdoor events, figure skating is barely mentioned. But hey we've at least managed to get on the medal tally with 2 silvers and a bronze so we're not all that doomed.

As much as I really like Nathan. I like him and Adam as people a lot or the tops I think him winnning a medal which is highly possible still sends the wrong message. I mean he didn't land one clean pass in the sp - he should not have qualified for the fs. The scoring system I don't ever though the day that falls on quads would hold people so much. PCS are so high for high tech folks and so called artist skates no longer have the advantage. A fall on a qud will obliterate points for artistry.

Why should Scott only be seen as a hypeman when he has the same credentials as Tara and Johnny (an Olympic champion/national champion skater)?

Hope this inspire VINCENT and ace all his quads. May be finally NBC will broadcast him lol... how ridiculous!!

Scott Hamilton is on NBCSN before every skate doing previews - I guess he can’t get his old job back? I loved Scott hyping up every single skater - he always had nice things to say even when people weren’t perfect - him and Sandra made every event seem epic in proportion - Johnny and Tara make everything seem droll and dull

Nathan would need some help from at least two of the top four to make it in the podium. That would be a miracle. But like I said earlier, miracle do happen!

Here's his deficit;
= 29.41 behind Yuzu
= 25.32 behind Javi. Need to only score 189.78 to top Nate (Eur LP =191.73 )
= 21.90 behind Shoma. Need to score at least 193.19 to top Nate (4C LP =197.45 )
= 21.05 behind Boyang. Need to score at least 194.04 to top Nate (4C LP = 200.78)

This is probably my only post in this thread since I'm watxhing on my phone but I have to say my opinion. I admire Nathan for having his Mao moment and coming back and doing these six quads. However, even though he still wasn't perfect and skated so early, the judges totally overmarked his PCS by 7-10 points (sorry, Samohin and Bychenko were better) and also his PCS in the short were inflated. You might think I'm just being bitter since Nathan is not my fave, but if these 15 points will decide that one of the Top guys there doesn't get a medal I call BS.

Only the Top 4 after the short can beat Nathan now and I'm worried they have to be absolutely perfect to do it. I'm so afraid one of them will be unfairly edged of medals, but we'll see, maybe I'm too negative. I hope, I want the Top 4 to medal.
