2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens SP

Vincent skated well, I hope he learn to develop the artistic side too. Sad to see Nathan choke again. He showed nerves at last World's as well. I wonder if Arutunian is not the best coach for a skater to reach the top. The figure skaters he coaches seem to get pretty high but then they hit a wall. Perhaps Nathan and Ashley could make a coaching change to reach their full potential.

Wow, Denis Ten didnt qualify for the FS. Previous 2014 Olympic Bronze Medalist too ... I cant help but feel so bad since he was one of my favorites. I will fondly remember his Caruso SP at Trophee de France. An utter masterpiece!

Yes his Caruso was a masterpiece. It was divine. I think this disappointing Olympics was on the cards. He's been nowhere this past 2 season and a half. I hope he doesn't retire because I won't have any favorites if Javi retires.

I'm dissapointed with judges. When they shouldn't they go flat out with inflated scores.

Today they had moment when they should have went crazy with score, and they were stingy with Hanyu score

Boyang Jin

Extra high 4Lz+3T with a tight 3T but still rotated. Clean 4T close to the board but well done. Good camel spin. Solid 3A as well. Brilliant spin through a pair of spins. Very athletic step sequence with strong edges and hitchkicks. What a brilliant technical performance!

Never count out Boyang Jin! He has captured bronze twice for a reason. His jumps were fantastic today and his expression was deeper and more internalized than even his short program performance at 4CC. The judges should give him the PCS with this, but I'm not sure if they'll go with it. I think he should get around 100.

Boyang's PCS is climbing steadily.
SP 4CC 42.58
Olympic 43.05

Did anyone see Adam’s post skate interview? I’m not sure what to make of it. Can someone explain/interpret?

will be interesting to see if the ladies competitoion is shaped up with the russian ladies getting psyched out though I bet russian media isn't nearly as pressuring as usa media is.

The media sounds like a piece of cake when you have Eteri watching you everyday.

Seriously, I think they do a better job of replicating the pressure of competitions every day.

In my conspiracy theory(?) - I think Nathan is being pressured to skate through injury from Raf or whoever - it doesn’t make sense that the quad lutz - his most consistent quad is suddenly just gone and his jumps constantly rotated in and out

If he's skating through an injury I don't think his coach is to blame for that? A lot of elite athletes keep mum about their injuries for their own reasons.

Evan was 10th. Even Matt Savoie placed better in the short than him, and iirc Matt had a mistake too.

Evan in torino really wasn't the favoriate - johnny was in second going into the free and was the main us star then. so he did not get the same pressure as nathan

nbc is paying no attention to bradie. It's all nathan, adam, mirai and the shibs. that may be to her benefit.

Jin higher tech than Shoma but will not get the PCS. Still will be close.

Shoma has a 16 point point PB advantage over Boyang. I think if they both go clean, Shoma will get it. But if Shoma makes mistakes, Boyang will probably surpass him. Only a small PCS advantage for Shoma in the SP here.

Sad for Nathan. Hope he comes back strong.

Relieved and Happy for Yuzuru and most especially for Shoma.

Glad for Javi.

Happy and excited for Boyang. People often counts him out but I think he is very capable to get into the Podium.

Excited for Dima. Noticed him few seasons back and I knew he will someday be a star. He is my current favorite mail Russian skater.

Hope everyone skates clean tomorrow!

His average SP score on the GP circuit was 102.66. This wasn't about preparation.

The GP circuit took place 3-4 months ago. Unfortunately, Nathan is not at the same level of fitness as he was, for whatever reason. Even in practice, his lutz went from a sure thing to a jump that was rarely landed and even rarely attempted. The flip went from consistent to a tossup. The toe went from 90% to 50% Watch practices guys, Nathan has been nowhere near top form since the GPF. This is no fluke bad skate.

My podium dreams have shifted now. I now need all the old veterans to take this. I need Javi, Carolina, and Cappellini/Lanotte to take this because I want a veterans clawing their way to the top despite the odds podium sweep with Aliona lol.
