2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens SP

I love Nathan and feel like he has the potential to be one of the all-time great skaters in time - but I get the vibe he's going to college and moving on with his life. As a fan, I hope I'm wrong.

I thought that's the plan if he wins OGM. If he doesn't he need to stay on.

Fernandez's LP practices haven't been that hot either.

True, but he looks a bit more solid than Hanyu. We have seen Hanyu lead in the short and then lose the gold to Javier in the long. (2015,2016) I often think that many skaters do better when they are in 2-4 position heading into the long.

But, this is men's figure skating.... so predictions are like rolling a dice. Any one of the top 3 could win, even Boyang could win if everyone else does terrible .

I really love Yuzuru, Hanyu, and Shoma. I would like all of them to win the gold medal :)

i would like to be a fly on the wall and hear the conversation between Raf and Nathan. Of course, both may have been rendered speechless and there's an eternal long silence.

Raf: I am sorry Nathan, Adam is my first son now.

He was injured in 2015 and headcased in 2016. That being said, you're correct. The top 2 are verrrrry close to one another.

How does Fernandez look "more solid"?

You can knock me over with a feather. I would never in a million years have predicted this outcome after the sp.

I am in shock.

I'm dissapointed with judges. When they shouldn't they go flat out with inflated scores.

Today they had moment when they should have went crazy with score, and they were stingy with Hanyu score

If he had skated last in that group they might have went a few points higher. The scores for everyone tonight we're in line for what they would typically get for similar skates. But the judges sure like to throw out high scores like candy for the Top Ladies.

Is it just possible that Nathan peaked too early in the season? A shame he couldnt peak here at the Olympics but I am just throwing some reasons out there. His last two poor performances are quite alarming and worrying.
Its overhype by US media and nerves

Yuzuru had that prior to 2014 but 1) he trained away from his home country so at least got some peace. 2) Japanese media werent this crazy in overhyping.

Nathan's implosion started from 2017 worlds. He doesnt do well in majors. Poor kid though, he's only 18, have to face all this.
I wonder why his coach or his fed dont help in controlling the media - exple cornering Nathan for intv, etc.
JSF's Kobayashi said she limits media time to 5 min only with Yuzu. Then play the bad person by whisking him away. They do all they can to protect the athletes privacy

Shoma is pretty consistent in LP either. Javi is not.
Yuzuru...well its Yuzuru so you will never know. He is one heck of legend no matter what, thats for sure.

The same as last year. He peaked at 4CC and fell at Worlds.

Seriously, look at the first line of the NYT article on Nathan : No men’s figure skater seems better positioned to win a gold medal at the Olympics than 18-year-old Nathan Chen

That's just not true. First of all I think he's 19 so that's not even right. It was just way too overhyped.

look Chan should be significantly even ten points ahead of Boyang in pcs

He has mastery of the pure skating skills but his ability to perform, interpret, and move his whole body has never been on the same level. Nor are his transitions that amazing either. Boyang gave the better performance tonight, the other components can go to Chan, but it was nowhere close to a 10 point difference there. It's not like Boyang is skating with little speed or bad edges.

So sorry for Chen, that was not expected. About Kolyada I had no expectations, but maybe he and Chen bounce back in FS.

Hanyu was fantastic and so was Fernandez!!! It seemed to me that the latter did not quite get the PCS he deserved = a bit lower score than in GP France. I understand he has not been doing that well in fs practices here, better so than in competition, LOL.

Jin and Uno were excellent, too.

This competition did look a lot better than team sp, fortunately.
