2018 Olympic Figure Skating Pairs FS

Big question for skating: 1. risk quads and fall, keep trying, keep falling or:

2. Do triple elements but well

I personally would like system to reward rotated beautiful elements higher than a fall on a quad.

This was not the skate they wanted to have. Not clean and rather mechanic without the fire they are capable of. Why must they be so hit and miss? :ohwell:

It's such a powerful version of an already great song. I think I'd love everyone who skates well to that. J/C are big competition for my fave teams, but I must give it to them. They've got fire in their bellies, even when they are not at their very best.

Tara jinxed J/C, saying they would fall or two-foot the quad throw. Actually, Vanessa has usually stood up on that jump with a two-foot. They were very consistent in the early part of this season and in the latter part of last season.

Doubling out on their second sbs satisfied the judges and TT&J because they didn't really care if J/C did well, but they can falsely say they had a chance for the podium. Not really. They only had a chance for maybe 5th place, and now they will probably finish around 7th overall.

ETA: Okay, they will finish 6th. At least they were in front of M/H. I hope J/C regroup and come back for at least a year or two to try for the Worlds podium.

Ok, that final lift is cool and all, but waaaaaaaay to dangerous for my taste :hopelessness:

James / Cipres (FRA)

Beautiful catch on the openign 3Twist. Great ice coverage on the 3T+2T+2T! Wild step-out on the attempted 4S but looks rotated. Unique position in the first lift, right into three-turns but only a double salchow from Vanessa on the attempted sbs 3S, ouch. Good centering on the combo spin. Beautiful hip lift and a fantastic throw 3F. Good low position in the death spiral and nice sync in the flying camels in the sbs spins. And a nice behind-the-back entry into the carry lift with that fantastic drag exit.

Darn, those salchows let them down, but this Song of Silence program is rightfully iconic. Extremely modern in the shapes, costuming, and tone. This wasn't as strong in the elements compared to their Euro performance last year with this program, but this is still one of my favorite programs in pairs skating in this quadrennial.

That was heartbreaking. There is still a chance but they need soooo many mistakes from so many teams that it's unlikely.

I love them but I'm very confused about how this went ahead of the Italians.

CBC commentators are a little confused too.

And the warm-up group bonus strikes again. As much as I love J/C, that should not have technically outscored S/B here. Come on judges.
