2018 Olympic Figure Skating Pairs SP

They have to zamboni the ice every 2 groups. If all 22 pairs (6 practice groups, 3-3-4-4-4-4) were there, they'd need to have two ice resurfacings. That, alas, is not something that they're willing to do for scheduling purposes.

I had no idea! Thanks for teaching me, I guess it makes sense that the pairs make twice as many marks on the ice as singles lol

I really identify this Ghost soundtrack the Israelis are skating to with the Knierems now. And I remember not caring for it last year when they premiered it at Worlds.

A lot of folks seem to be flipping over Yuri on Ice. Is it really good? I don't usually watch anime, but maybe I'll see if it's on Netflix.

It's a super endearing anime. Does a quite good job of portraying men's figure skating accurately (a few nitpicks, but the showrunners are true fans, and it shows). It was mostly extremely groundbreaking for it's LGBT inclusivity-- it's very usual for sports anime to tease homoerotic subtext, but unheard of for an anime to actually confirm and depict a positive, healthy gay relationship. It's got great characters, great story, and lots and lots of beautifully animated figure skating routines.

A whole bunch of figure skaters got crazy about the show while it was airing, including Evgenia Medvedeva, Johnny Weir, and Stephane Lambiel (who did a voice spot in the final episode). Still holding out hope that Evgenia's gonna break out a Yuri on Ice exhibition program at the end of the Olympics...

They zamboni the ice every 2 groups regardless of discipline! It just so happens that Pairs have smaller groups for safety/better practice time (due to throwing skills and lifts and needing more space/team).

I love it!! And it made a lot of people watch figure skating (although some fans can be annoying sometime - comparing real skaters to the fictional ones and whatnot)

It's like those you tuber memes.

Figure skating fan: OH MY GOD GUYS I BURNT MY HOUSE DOWN WHILE WATCHING THE OLYMPICS

Loll! I'm just being fun.

Lol I wish! I had something going in the broiler and it literally caught on fire. My fire alarm started going off :palmf:

There are no shorttrack events tomorrow. Is the rink needed for any other sport?

I'm here, half-asleep. I know it's early, a workday, the very first group, only the short program and so on. But why is it SOOO empty? This is horrible. These are the Olympics.

And the American commentator on what I guess is the International Feed (with the Aussie female commentator) keeps going on about how full it is. Like I can't see it is at least half empty. And almost nothing gets thrown to the skaters after their performances. I know they can't keep most of it but honestly.

TES is close but looks like the Aussies have the edge? Just need to beat 3 more teams?

Good skate from Conners/Krasnopolski. You can tell they are a new team. She definitely does not have the beautiful knee bend on her throws that the top pairs skaters have but that was good considering how new they are. Good Job!
