2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Russia doesn't have a team, though, does it? So it's Canada, Japan and the US. Canada is strong in all four events, then the US, then Japan.

I think they'd get a team made of of ' Olympic Athletes from Russia' or 'OAR'

So US, Canada, OAR, Japan, South Korea, Israel, UK, France, Germany, Italy I think are the teams?
(Unrelated note, I am very bitter about Tobias/Tkachenko and his not getting citizenship :scowl:)

The Prudential Skate Radio guys said the men's long is being reduced by 30 seconds next year and one required jump is being removed. They also said quads were going to be downgraded; that originally they were given a bonus because they were rare but now enough people are doing them and they're making the programs too unbalanced and not enough attention is being paid to skating skills (paraphrasing here). I love the skate radio guys and I wish they called the worlds and GPs too...
Ahh so all those bribes erm I mean prayers I have been making to the skating rules gods are finally paying off. :yahoo:Where can I listen to skate radio guys? Thank you moonvine. You have brightened my mood considerably :thank:

Nathan gave us a very solid program, and the Falcons won against the Rams... I'm a very content sports fan tonight

I certainly hope that is true. But why not keep the program at 4.5 minutes reduce the # of quads that can be attempted.

So...I might be thinking differently than some (maybe all?) of you here, but shouldn't the Olympics be more of a reward to the podium finishers, while worlds should be where we send our highest 3 scorers since they can secure three spots for next year?
Bc the Olympics is not a qualifier for how many skaters a country can send to next years worlds.

I would send the podium finishers to the Olympics.

I'd add in Rippon and take our Minor for the worlds.

Does that make me crazy? 😬

No, that's what I would do.

Do a skate-off at 4 CCs? Just like someone on the Ladies thread suggested?

If they did a skate off at 4 CCs, they could factor in placement at Nationals as a selection criteria, just as they do currently. Extra points for Nationals 2nd versus 4th and 5 th.

And 4ccs are already written up in the weightings as well.

I hope it is Nathan, Vincent and Adam. I don't think Ross' lack of international standing gets ignored because he lucked into a clean/inflated skate at nationals.

Also, NBCSN made sure to mention multiple times that Nationals is not the sole event considered when selecting the Olympic team and even showed an entire listing of the events that are considered which they did not do for the ladies event. Think they are trying to setup a Nathan, Vincent and Adam Olympic team.

I just don't see them sending two male veteran skaters. Nathan, of course, is our current hope. Vincent is our future hope. I can't see bumping the silver medalist. It just seems wrong to me.

I'd love for Adam to get to go, but I don't see how that would work.

Send Adam over Vincent? Send Vincent to worlds. He is young enough for another quad. It would feel wrong to bump Ross.

I hope I never hear the term, "body of work" ever again.

This is simple, Nationals is the biggest, most important US competition of the year. Every skater knows it and puts in the work for it.
Compete well there, you get rewards.

Adam should get World's, but the Olympics go to the top 3. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

I guess we'll see, but I think they would be very foolish to send Ross Miner.

If Ross is bumped there are always 4 Continents & World Teams to be determined & if he's bumped then I think he should get both. I personally feel that Vincent should go to the Olympics. So, Nathan, Vincent & Adam to the Olympics; Ross, Jason & Grant to 4 C's & Nathan, Ross & Vincent to Worlds.

I believe that this situation will put a little to rest Ashley's situation.

Mmm... only if they go with the top 3 from the podium here.

If they bump one of the men for "body work", if I were Ashley I'd be fuming all over again!

They did not stiff Polina 4 years ago, though. Miner is in the exact position as her, 2nd place with not much international recognition.

Hmmmm, exactly how I feel. Let the Oly team be Chen/Miner/Zhou. They all EARNED it. Let's be real, only Chen is an Oly medalist hopeful and neither Rippon nor Brown are factors for Olympic glory. They should just go by the Nats results. Name Rippon to the World team. He was disgraceful tonight. Too much Sasshley and not enough production.

This is the downside of having such a deep field someone like Ross can come out of nowhere and skate their best and mess things up. This wouldn't happen in Canada since pretty much whoever finishes 2nd will go to the Olympics since no one but Patrick has really accomplished anything internationally so no need to boot someone off the Olympic team.

Agree 100 percent. Everyone knows that they need to step it up at Nationals. That they fail to do so, is their own fault.

After a solid 30 minutes of contemplation...
I would go with Chen, Zhou, and Miner for the Olympics, Rippon, Zhou, and Chen for Worlds, Rippon, Brown, and Hochstein for 4CC, and Krasnozhon, Pulkinen, and Hiwatashi to HW.

Good luck selection committee. Have fun!
Would not be surprised if your predictions came true. Huzzah!!!

I just really hope that Vincent makes the team he has made it known that he can do this. The true question is do you take the Grand Prix where Vincent didn't do well but Adam did or Nationals where Vincent came out when he had to do it and laid it on the line and did his job. Because the saddest part is had Vincent hit his axel in his short he would have been a lock. And think of the team event Vincent and Nathan skating the team event wow

Ashley doesn't have Adam's body of work this year. She can fume all she wants...
