2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Michael Weiss actually mentioned this on the Ice Network ice desk, that Ross's hitting his TES scores well were helped when some of Vincent's GOEs on his quad jumps were downgraded due to those under rotations.

and to think everybody immediately when Vincent's scores came up thought it was to benefit Jason and possibly Adam

Ross threw a trillion wrenches in everybody's storyline

i personally think it's smart. its not always politics based, it's who's going to do the best for the team in all events...that's what i really appreciate with gymnastics over skating. so much less drama. and as far as i know the winner of trials is a lock for the olympics.

No...I looked it up. A gymnast must place first or second in the all-around and place in the top three on three of the six events to be automatically named to the team. http://www.nbcolympics.com/news/cheat-sheet-mens-gymnastics-olympic-trials I think they would be unlikely to not take the winner, but it's in the rules.

I personally think they should send the podium. The only body of work I would support is Nathan. It should be for legit medal contender. Other than that who goes places 7 to 16 at Olympics let Nationals decide.

It's hard to not give Ross a spot - he was the first qualifier behind Nathan. He basically did what any one of the guys could have optimally expected to do with Nathan competing.

But I'm for Nathan, Adam and Ross.

Although the irony of Rippon over Zhou and pulling the same thing his bestie Ashley did over Mirai in 2014 would be incredible.
Thought the exact same thing... also thought this morning before all this happened at the competition tonight how is ironic that Ashley is off the team but Adam will be going because that's what he was saying. I bet he wish that he had his mother on The Selection committee right now LOL

Also I wanna cross reference everyone who says Ross shouldn't be on the team or Rippon should be on the team with those who flayed Ashley. [emoji14] (yes, I know it's not the same lol)
I love you Canadianskaterguy... you're like the voice of reason in American figure skating don't change don't let anybody get to you be strong and be you

I do think it makes the most sense to send Nathan, Adam, Vincent. I just think the PR would be terrible if they didn't send the silver medalist. I've been kind of wanting before the competition even started to go with Nathan, Adam and Vincent. But I'm just not sure it can be done. If they did what the US women's artistic gymnastics program did and just made it super clear that nats and Olympic trials don't officially decide anything, USFSA could easily just put whoever they wanted on the team for any reason. That's what they should do. There are always fluke good and bad performances. I think even in race sports like swimming and track a committee should just take the team they think has the potential for the best results.

But USFSA tries to have it both ways by making a BIG DEAL out of the nationals and then having a selection committee instead of just taking the top finishers. It's really screwing them and I think they need to settle on one method or another of choosing teams.

Is it USFSA that made a "big deal" out of this nationals or was it the media/fans? I'm pretty certain they have been more than clear that it is about body of work now.

People keep saying PR would be terrible, but why would it be terrible NOW after they have already said it isn't just about nationals. No one should be shocked if Ross (or Vincent, honestly) isn't chosen merely because they medaled this one time.

Ross has no business going to the Olympics. His programs are dated and cheesy. Nathan, Vincent and Adam should go. Jason had a terrible season and I blame his coaching situation for that although I know he would never blame them. Men’s figure skating in the US just got a little less interesting with Jason’s not making the team :slink:

For me, Ross earned it.

Ross deserved 5th place at 2011 Worlds. He has been around doing great skating for many years, even if he's been inconsistent.

Vincent can be sent to 4CC and Worlds, Adam deserves to go to the Olympics with his superior showings over Vincent in every competition except Nationals, and frankly the later mistakes Adam made at Nationals were TOTAL flukes. He just got too relaxed after nailing most of his program and messed up on two of his easier elements. That's like the only time in the entire Olympic quadrennial he's made those mistakes.

I just want to say I love Jason he is this Generations Toller Cranston but the truth of the matter is if he loses any of his technical content his score plummets same with Adam

I watched men's free skate live with my mom and here's what we thought Vincent and Nathan should definitely go. It's a coin tosses between Ross and Adam. I'd send Adam to Worlds in four continents. I definitely send Vincent to the Olympics because he placed second last year at Nationals and bronze this year he's proven himself he had a rough season but so have a lot of other skaters he delivered when it counted plus he might not be around until 2022.

Absolutely, Vincent isn't very intelligent young man and I can see him possibly going to college within the next two years

Please let it be known that I am on the record as saying they should give the third ladies spot to Elena Radionova. I stand by my former statement! [emoji23]

Vincent Zhou hasn't exactly had a terrible season: he won silver at 2017 Finlandia and was 4th at 2017 CoC. And he's the reigning JWC and was the 2017 US Senior silver medalist.

Send the top 3 to the Olympics, then send Chen, Zhou and Rippon to Worlds. I'd hate to see Ross revert to his GP form when spots for 2019 Worlds are at risk.

I feel that waking up and first-thing checking forum was the worst idea EVER...:slink:
Yet to watch videos, but... what the very heck happened?!?! I really have to buy lots of tissues for re-watching...
