Who specifically?
He didn’t specify which competitors. Every competitor with the exception of Nathan, who is the only obvious selection to the team, I suppose.

Who specifically?
Nothing too major, but Ashley wasn’t the national champ in 2016. She was 3rd? Gracie was the champ and Polina was 2nd.even if you did past 2 years you can make a case for ashley
ashley national champ 2016, 2nd 2017, 4th 2018
worlds 2016, 2nd, 2017-7th
gp final finished 5th medaled in both events in 2015/2016
2016/2017 medal in one
2017/2018 medaled in one wd in another
2014 olympic team bronze medalist
7th @ olympics
karen chen national champ in 2017, 3rd in 2018, 2016?
2016 worlds didn't go-went to 4cc finished 10th 2016
2017 worlds finished 4th, 4cc 2017 finished 10th
2015/2016 gp events?
2016/2017 didn't medal didnt qualify for gp final
2017/2018 didn't medal didn't qualify for gp event
3rd in challenger 2017 u.s. classic
mirai nagasu
2015/2016 4th nationals
gp events did she medal-didn't qualify for gp events ,
think she finished 10th year at world
2016/2017- 4th nationals
didn't go to worlds 2nd at 4cc
2017/2018 2nd at nationals
2017
than you can't add the 2010 olympic season in only go back 2-years or even the 2014 olympics
they have no bearing on body of work if use only 2016-2018.
so mirai 4th place at olympic in 2010 shouldn't count, adam 6th place at olympic shouldn't count
as well as anything prior to 2015/2016 season.
yet they factor it in as what -veteran to teach/show other the ropes of the olympics and know how to handle the pressure
but base point is you cant' choose adam over ross without them choosing ashley or who, bradie,=just jumped up, mirai, karen-
they went strictly by nationals and the 2017 worlds
could do the same ross didn't go to the 2017 worlds, in fact the last time ross miner medal at u.s. was in 2013 past the 2 year body of work of which his scores, pcs, tes reflect that because of
jason , vincent, adam, nathan,
mirai-2016 4th last minute for polina where she finished 10th worlds
i think medaled in one and 5-7th in her other one.
2017- 4th at nationals last year,
medaled in cup of russia 3rd, 9th -or last in her other one
2018- didn't medal in her gp nor win her events
mirai- 2
No one specifically. He was being humorous.
I'm trying to find a proper solution, because I think the selection can be too blurry !I'm still trying to transition out of the old system and I'm not sure the new one is superior. I love body of work but figure skating is also about catching lightning in a bottle when you're under pressure at nationals. In 1992 they left out Mark Mitchell who was in 3rd instead of Paul Wylie who was in 2nd but was a much more inconsistent skater (though a beautiful one). I preferred that decision.
They’re not even sending Ross to Worlds or as first alternate. I am FURIOUS on his behalf.

Since a lot of people are (very understandably) upset :
Do you think one of the possibility to prevent those situations is to "simply" do it the Korean way ? They have A LOT of competition where all the acts from the same country go head to head to really see who stands out.
That is almost non possible because it will take to much time during the season, but if all of you are angry, it could be a solution. Or ask the federation to properly publish the criteria (I feel like some discovered it right now).
Or to actually make the selection "live" : after every event (GP, senior B's, GPF), you get to see who is standing at which place for the Olympic selection.
Don't mock meI'm trying to find a proper solution, because I think the selection can be too blurry !

Very helpful and interesting (good link to have). Thanks (also to Frenchie)!
This is the first time I have agreed with the statement, “Why even have a National Championship in an Olympic season?”
I'm not angry, but I do think a mathematical formula for the criteria would be helpful. For example a medal is worth 3 points, top 6 worth 2 points and top 10 worth 1 point. Then give a factor to each tier. So tier 1 is x3, and tier 2 t x2. Or something like that. The only problem with that would be factoring in for skaters who couldn't compete due to injury. Maybe and extra point or half point could be given to someone who was expected to make a team but couldn't compete due to injury.
Here are the assignments:
OG:
1. Chen
2. Zhou
3. Rippon
4CC:
1. Brown
2. Miner
3. Aaron
Worlds:
1. Chen
2. Rippon
3. Zhou

I can’t wait to hear what Dave, Jonathan and La think of this maddening nonsense. These international selections may go down as the most notorious controversy in the history of skating. Oh, the intrigue and drama of it all!
It will be forgotten in a month, just like Ross when he retires.
I think you vastly overestimate how much people care.
