Now I'm extra mad that I had to go teach a class and missed both Kaetlyn and Wakaba. Who are my two favorite skaters in the field. But hey this is the dream podium I never thought I could get...

Some of my fave things today:

Wakaba's super skate and crying afterwards.
Kaetlyn's very focused face just before the warm up. The others looked nervous, but she was like: I'm gonna slay and I have no doubt about that!
Japan getting three spots.
Gabby's opening combo (wish the rest had been better)
Italian audience.
Maria's helicoptering to barely keep Russia's third spot.
Loena.full stop.
Just the total wackiness of it all.

Least favourite thing: Alina's clear pain at her result. The girl needs comfort and rest.

Her scores and that she is a rival to Russians. You know the fans. Calling her a fat goose and such things.

I agree with Wakaba's amazing performance today. It was most impactful. Their gap should have been closer in the FP.

I scored Osmond at 135 and Wakaba at 139, suspicious about Wakaba only getting a Level 3 footwork call though, I will need to look at that. Would be another 1 point for her if it's Level 4.

I can understand if people want to critique her scores, but she's such a lightning rod for personal attacks for some reason.

WOW - ALL this praise for Bradie placing 4th in the free and 6th over all ( with some iffy calls I would add!), and people going on about look out for her next season... Yeah yeah yeah - I seem to remember the same type of comments about Karen when she placed 4th last year! And what has she done since!

Wow. But why be negative towards her? We get it: USA female skaters aren't the best at the moment compared to the rest of the world, but there's no need to be so negative and sarcastic about their future and what they can accomplish. (And bluntly speaking, my chastisement also applies to those people who upvoted your post, as well. :roll5

I still remember when I read someone posting a link to an old thread from years ago, when Aliona Savchenko wanted to continue to the 2018 Olympics - and people were scoffing at her & counting her out. Lo' and behold, look at what she ended up accomplishing. Now, no one's scoffing anymore, are they? arty:

Point is this: Don't ever count anyone out regarding future prospects (due to country or history/past performance), and on the flip side, don't count your chickens before they hatch. (Case in point: Tonight's women's competition has proven both of these to be true.)

Bradie has skated more clean programs this season then Karen has her whole Senior career.

Completely True.....The US needs to send Bradie a thank you card because she has been the only real bright spot all season long.

This is EXACTLY what the US needed. A cold slap to wake them up from this slump of mediocracy. If Mirai and Bradie had fully rotated their jumps we'd have 3 spots. However, when you add Mariah's finish to the mix, she really added nothing and at this point, 2 spots are all we need.

Remember how sorry we have been to have 3 spots while Japan has only 2 this season?
We don't want to take Russia's 3rd spot (they are the last country to get 3spots). NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I agree with Hanyu 2012 moment for Wakaba! Perhaps we can call thse Wakaba 2018 for the ladies?

But I diasgree with Kaetlyn. She has charisma and is great to watch. She just needs better programs for her, her free skate wasn't the best vehicle for her. I'm still happy so much for her.

I'm ready to call it a Wakaba 2018 if you are!

We'll just have to agree to disagree on Kaetlyn. I see no innovation, artistic or technical ambition with her. Neither sincerity neither audience connection. I'll just have to swallow it.

(Not directed at you) At least after the Olympics I didnt make a comment about how I would love to see the faces of some people on this forum after Hanyu and Zagitova won. Way to be classy guys.

Real talk. She'll have another shot next season with Trusova being too young.

But it was such a painful reminder that her program is stellar but only when she lands everything. When she messes up, the whole thing falls apart. She is very fortunate to get essentially 70 PCS. At the beginning of the season a performance like that would barely clear 60.

I'm sure she will bounce back though.

I'm sure she'll bounce back, too. That still doesn't change the fact that I think her FS score was too high for what she put on the ice today.

Huh? Her layout was the same. She just wasn't able to execute it properly. Should have done the Loop combo first but failed, tried to do it again, failed again.

It's gotta be particularly difficult to gather yourself and bounce back after falls with the jumps packed together so tightly. Yes, I do figure it was a combination of fatigue after Olympics and the program setup.

That's why it's a pretty tough program... When it's going well it of course looks like a walk in the park, but when there's struggles it's very difficult to collect yourself for all the other jumps to come right after one another.

Japans got their 3 spots back. Belgium has 2! and Russians just and just hold their 3 spots. Canadians have 3, US 2, and Italy 2. Please correct if I am wrong.
