Speaking of lenient... aren't they supposed to get deductions for finishing a second or more after the music? There were plenty of borderline situations with that tonight.

*shakes fist to the air*
justice for Eunsoo's 1-second deduction

:giveup::bed:

final thoughts:
-this was a decent men's SP event
-I guess the tech panel didn't give a fluff towards calling URs and such
-looks like Vincent will write a long success essay about this event afterall

The only thing more whack than the tech panel was the PCS? On whose green earth is Zhou's SS higher than Cha, and even on par with Jin and Messing? Only .43 inferior to Brown? His pcs went from ~37 at his last gp to 42 here. Looks like the US looked at Russia with Euros and said, "hold my beer".

My Hot take...the tech panel were not actually there. They were holograms, and the real tech panel were enjoying Disneyland. ;) (we don't have a tin hat emoji...we should get one)
I'm ready to go on a Fernandez-level rant on the judging.

He skated clean and in the final group. His PCS have improved considerably and he is not significantly worse than Cha, Messing, or Jin. I think he is slightly behind but in the same scoring range. He skated the cleanest of the bunch, and still got the lowest PCS of the bunch.

Vincent leads after the short. Seems like I was the only person who had any faith in him...

Because you drugged the technical panel, Didn't you? How did you get to Shin Amano ;) Seriously, the top two here definitely benefited from an overly lenient technical panel. I hate how inconsistent technical panels are. It makes skaters like Vincent suffer when they don't know how their jumps will be called. I like technical panels that are strict on everyone. Strict is fair.

I have another serious question- the top 16(!!!) men all got level 4 on their stsq. Did all those people really do a level 4, or is this another piece of evidence of the tech panel's...lenient ways?

He quite clearly is significantly worse than Cha, Messing and Jin. Hint: look at his skates. Not only is he slow, his steps and turns are laboured, his kneework makes Stepanova's look like Virtue's, his edges are shallow. Do I even need to touch on the (bare minimum) transitions? Don't even talk about performance and interpretation TBH, comparing this to Abbott is insulting Abbott

The FS is going to be something else. I’m glad that Jin skated okay. And he didn’t even jump too close to the boards, either. Although I correctly predicted that Cha will be in second (and above Uno), I’m glad I didn’t do the predictions game. I was wrong about everything else. I actually liked Zhou for the first time. His PCS was high, but I thought he improved in that regard. The tech panel was lenient on all skaters (which I’m glad of). If they’re going to sleep, stay asleep. Don’t suddenly wake up on certain skaters. With proper calls, the standings won’t change much. The scores will just be lower.

Because, he is slow. Messing has great SS. Cha's are good, too. Jin is also slightly better than Zhou. Those PCS marks were generous. You must have drugged the technical panel and the judging panel. Or maybe, it was Tom Z. ;)

Anett Pötzsch is the 1980 Olympic Figure skating champion in Ladies singles. She was the technical specialist tonight, that is, the one making all the calls. (Shin was her assistant)

What a competition...Happy Boyang had a good skate. His Lz flies half the rink, no wonder he messed the landing. The 4Lz still looked gorgeous.
I am happy the Canadians had good skates. I am too sleepy to say more things.

It was Tom Z, that's why he was missing in the k&c.

The real WAZROBBED came way down the list.

Nobody was screwed harder than Dodds and Carillo were.

There were a good number of ho-hum performances by other skaters that should not have beaten those performances.

If they had skated later there scores would have been better, but Carillo does not have the best SS and Dodds does not have high technical content and they are both from small federations. They definitely would have scored a bit higher in a later group but not that much.

Clearly the most important question here is: “Where is Keegan’s hat?”

The other things you have cited may apply, if one shares those opinions. The ones I've highlighted should be absolutely irrelevant.

They both had charming performances with good solid content. I think they were better than some of the stumbles and missed combos and general flopping about we saw later in the competition.

An earlier post mentioned there was also Noyes - was that Tina Noyes of USA of the Peggy Fleming era?
