2019 World Championships Pairs Short Program

Hello everyone :), watching from 3AM, it will be a rough second part of week to jiggle night wake-ups & work, but after watching Wenjing & Cong I know it is worth the effort, for such experiences.

I will probably write more complex impression post later, after SP, .

If this was the appetizer, I'll be waiting patiently for the main course

That makes it even more impressive imo. Han is much smaller than both of those men. The fact that he can throw Sui just as high is incredible. Sui is definitely the Empress, but Han is one of the best men in pairs despite of his perceived shortcomings.

They're evenly matched IMO, he's an impeccable partner in every way

I will probably write more complex impression post later, after SP, but let me say this - it seemed impossible for me to tear up before even music started yet Wenjing/Cong shattered that myth for me. Seeing the magnitude, spectrum of emotional engagement in their faces in starting pose made me experience watching them just so much stronger, seeing them after all these teams skating before made me realize how happy we are to witness such complexity in nuancing not only strong pair elements, but emotions, musicality, chemistry between two of them. It is never how obvious they are with things they show, but how strongly they engage within them, the power of something unspoken they give people watching them: a little gesture, Wenjing's expression, the sublime contrast between pause & movement in their presentation... Also, the level of maturity now they represent is enriching their skating & emoting so much. And they don't even need to make themselves 'cool', 'classical' or any particular label for a purpose - they are their own brand regardless of repetoire, goin better each season.

Oh, Beatrice, you and your beautiful words make me ashamed of my crude comments, you always write such beautiful, heartfelt things

Cong's leading skills are for me unparalleled, regardless of any other opinion. Are other pair Men more statuesque, with more 'in-your-face' physique & strenght on display? Of course, but no one for me can really hold on his own like Cong in terms of presentation not only his partner, but himself regarding musicality, movement. Sometimes these 'little' & insignificant things disregarded by lots of people differentiate good/solid from special.

Looking forward to everyone in this group for different reasons. Crossing my fingers.

My Moskvina team :luv17:

Made it back to watch the last two groups. I'm at work and people "needed me" for something :rolleye: How rude!

What NoNameFace said, but what keeps striking me about S/H is just how I really always want to gif all their movements and expressions in slo-mo. The lingering looks, the revolutions of her turns in the lifts, the rising of his arms as he throws, the slow breaking of her smile...

The rule is long sleeves/short gloves, short sleeves/long gloves. Why does hardly anyone know their glove etiquette in this sport?

The Americans are well placed - what luck I had no idea they were so highly ranked in the world. USA Sui and Han obviously can skate under pressure.
