2019 World Championships Pairs Short Program

I'm glad they're back on their feet after that horrible fall at Golden Spin, but that choreography, um, seems to owe rather a lot to S/M's That Man. And they lost a bit of power and speed in the step sequence, which isn't something you can get away with when skating to this sort of music.

I don't know why C/L continue to go for the 3lo in the short. It's usually called under at best. They could gain way more points with a clean 3t.

Oh crap. Well Cain and Leduc are still in it. They can do well in the fs. At least this wasn't a total disaster.

You're right - it does feel really derivative of S/M.

Cain/Leduc's jumps have looked so good in practice all week. Ashley just needs more confidence but their pair elements have really improved this year! I have to say I just love all of these pairs' teams so much! They are so gutsy!

Them scoring almost 67 internationally is still pretty great. The judges seem to be buying what they're selling now

Cain / Leduc (USA)

Tech: Low catch on the 3Twist but still done fine, wild fall for Cain on the sbs 3Lo, stronger throw 3Lz (a bit careful and a little low), stronger lift than I've seen from them, nice death spiral with fairly good speed, good series of turns through footwork (Level 4), difficult sbs spins with great stretch

Pres: Shame on the fall on the 3Lo since it looked like she was good on the take-off, the cutesy choreography is a bit shlocky but it fits their personality, but I think they can work with better material next year. Still, their quality and speed are improving steadily.

Score: TES 35.81, PCS 21.12, -1 Deduction, Total 66.83 (currently 4th)

Wish C/L had gone clean but this is still a step forward for them. Despite the mistake they really committed until the end and their overall skating has improved. It's going to be hard to get those 2 spots with everyone going clean though.

I don't think it will particularly difficult for them to make the top 10. They'll be 8th after the short, and I don't see most of the others leapfrogging that much.

That looked like a nasty fall; hope she's okay.

edit: oops 9th, miscounted

That's a very solid score for Cain/LeDuc given their fall. It's high, but they've also been putting in the work and improving.

Even with the fall...

I  this program. I'd far rather have schlocky dance than a "get a room" special.

And who would have thought Ashley and Tim would even be here? Good on them.
