2020-21 Russian Pairs' figure skating

They turned “Ice Age” into Olympics this year :)
Yet the main thing… it seems to me these videos can cheer someone up :)

Khokhlova and Chepurchenko
(sorry that something is wrong with the video in the beginning, later it works well)

Kuzmina and Enbert
Enbert opened up a new side of himself on this show. And Kuzmina doing pair elements, really makes me think figure skating in is Russian dna or something. Probably the best season of Ice age that I‘ve seen, largely thanks to Enbert and Kuzmina.

P/R are planing a triple jump in their FS?
this article says that they finally have finished working on a triple and are planning to include it in their FS.
Really hope they can do the triple successfully in their FS. They have so much to offer with their outstanding pairs elements. I hate to see that hold them back.

Well, they already tried it in their last competition. It didn’t work out that well, but they did try! It doesn’t really matter to me whether they will try at the nationals or whether they will want to keep it safe - their double will bring more points than a triple with the fall - and they do need to get in the top six to be on the national team and get the funding for the next season. For me, the fact that they already tried in a competition shows that they work hard on it and it is some indicator that it could be ready for the next season. They are not likely to go to worlds (and we don’t even know if worlds happen this season) and the nationals will be probably their last competition this season; there is full ten months before the next season starts, so they will have plenty of time to work on their triples

True, just the article sounds more on the optimistic side with the part about “finished working on”, so it appeared to me that it’s progressed further than what it have been before.
However, unclear if this is all just a phrase of the reporter, or confidence coming from skaters themselves.

I think it's such a shame that so many teams are held back or even broken up because of their jumps. OF coures this is a sport and this si reality, but the ones who come to pairs skating are usually the ones who rely a lot on their partner for their elements, so when they don't have a partner helping them, it becomes a struggle. We've already seen Borisova/Sopot broken up in part due to jumping, and so many other great teams held back due to it. Vislobokova/Briukhanov actually had really good pair elements, including an insane quad twist, but STanislava could not jump well. And then there are my favorites, Kostiukovich/Briukhanov and Panfilova/Rylov of course

It seems that the upcoming generation of young pairs do not have great jumps. With the exception of Mukhametzianova/Mironov, who I believe can get their jumps back after her puberty, the others always make you hold your breath and can rarely produce two clean triples in competition. Akhanteva has a scratchy 3S and inconsistent 3T, Kostiukovich lost all her toe jumps and is inconsistent with 3S, Panfilova cannot do 3S, or has not shown it to be consistent, Mukhortova is good, so is Artemeva but I don't know if her jumps (or throws) will last through puberty. Alas I guess nothing lasts forever - after Mishina, Boikova, Pavliuchenko, and Kadyrova, there had to be a break of good jumpers. In fact in the current crop of seniors, it seems to be the boys that aren't the best jumpers (Kozlovskii and Galliamov have weird 3T, Rylov can barely manage triples, Volodin is inconsistent....)

I'm so happy to see them happy! Bit worried Vovan still has the wrist brace, but hopefully it won't effect lifts or throws.

I'll be able to watch the FS (not the SP though, it's on too late), I wonder if I should bring out the polkadot scarf... maybe not, it didn't work last time :laugh2:

Kadyrova is very young, she turned 16 two weeks ago (they are only in seniors because of her partner's age) and it's not clear how her jumps will last through puberty.

That's true. Another thing is that she is only 20cm shorter than him. I remember Kadyrova in singles, she had videos of herself doing 4S but she never qualified to junior nationals, so I guess she was very inconsistent. I like them, but I don't know how long this team will last.

Apparently Sweden has cancelled all sporting events for the rest of the season, but they are planning a bubble situatoin for worlds. The ISU doesn't seem ready to make anything happen virtually, or at least they are not willing to do so.

Still so sad for junior worlds and especially Artemeva/Nazarychev, for whom this could have been the golden chance. :(

Please, please, let there be a bubble, like they're doing with speed and short track skating. Though I am happy with the additional Russian happenings, the Gran Premio Italia, the local GP's and the few international competitions, a truly international competition is something I'm really wishing for. Of course it has to be done safely (like wearing masks properly), but I would love to have a World's. Virtually would also be fine - not so different from watching on tv , enthusiastic audiences aside - but something.... I really hope the Swedes are planning a bubble, and athletes, coaches and feds have trust in their bubble (I'm sure the Swedes will ensure that everybody sticks to the rules and protocols). Fingers crossed.

Tatiana TArasova said that the championship could be held in Russia since they hold it great, but then again there have been many infected and at least 4 serious cases out of Russia this season (Medvedeva, Sinitsina, Shpilevaya, Shulskaia). So I'm not sure the ISU will want to do that. The bubble at Skate America seemed good.

If this year's worlds are cancelled, imagine Boikova/Kozlovskii losing both of their best chances....

Lakernik also confirmed that they have considered that but they can't due to the ban on Russian holding any World Championships.

Despite the CAS decisions, if Russia would be able to organise a Worlds: Yes please. I suppose it's legally not possible, but Covid-19 doesn't care about that. Just make sure everybody wears their masks properly.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure the ISU does. So there's no if - Russia cannot host a Worlds.

We don’t know what would have happened at junior worlds. As much as I like them, they are not quite the same level the past few junior world champion pairs had been. As much as I love A/N, there is no point winning junior world championships, moving to seniors (while not being quite ready) and then getting lost within Russian senior pair field. I prefer to keep A/N in juniors one more year, hopefully getting to the stage when they easily win everything that’s available and then moving to seniors when they are ready. At the moment, they won’t beat Panfilova/Rylov or Kadyrova/Balchenko, which means with a bit of luck they would be Russian pair number seven. That’s not very good when one wants some international assignments. I think it is better staying junior and having the certainty of of JGP, JGPF and junior worlds (plus possibly doing some senior B challengers), then moving to seniors and having only the challengers, no GP, no GPF and no worlds.
