But you have to innovate in other areas too. The amount of revolutions in the air a human can do is limited and nothing increases in a straight line over large periods of time, but in waves. Some skaters could land 4As or 5s and afterwards a regression could happen in the sport related to jumps. Unless the human species will evolve into a different species more adapted to rotating in the air and fighting gravity like a bird or something, but that happens in aeons and usually after a great extinction if at all (possibilities slim). :)
And let's not forget the pressure on the human body a 5 or 6 revolution jump would mean. Seeing people so badly injured that their lives are changed forever is not how it should be IMO and we've seen that in gymnastics I think. Or them having a competitive career that is spanning 4 years or less because of the grueling nature of the elite level sport.
It's the nature of any sport.

If so, it’s weird, given how dull and monotonous it is.
I agree, but I actually like the version that Kamila skates to. It's much more lively and upbeat and it builds really nicely at the end (and this is coming from someone who doesn't usually like Bolero  ). I do hate the version that Kostner skated to though. Now THAT was dull and monotonous.

To be fair Bolero is literally the perfect Eteri skater music. Frantic, repetitive and has little musical accents. Just like most of Danill G choreo is. So they're actually quite wise in giving Kamila Bolero.
I actually think it's the opposite. Bolero isnt frantic with few musical accents. Its extremely methodical with a very predictable beats and accents. That makes it more obvious when DG's choreography doesnt match the music, which is most of the time.
I dont mind Bolero for skating at all. And while I dont think the choreography shows the best of Kamila's ability, I dont inherently dislike the moves or style - depending on the day, I sometimes find them interesting and creative. But I always watch the program thinking nearly every single move belongs either two seconds earlier or later, or needs to be done either longer or faster, to match the music. Very typical DG.

I don't think this is DG's fault, but more the skater's fault who is not in sync with the music. I am sure his programs are not designed to miss musical accents by one second  That happens when the programs are jam-packed, the skater is nervous in competitions or even had a fall during the program.
Caro's Bolero seemed more pleasant because she only had choreography for her arms and face. The rest was two foot skating and crossovers.

Caro's Bolero is an homage to Katarina Witt (which was perfectly fine to me actually), Kamila's Bolero is an homage to the athleticism of the postmodern ballet (which is also perfectly fine... to me... again).

That’s another reason I like the sport of figure skating rather than the art of figure skating. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

Plus, a beast of an athlete Iike Trusova is a lot more exciting to watch because she can wow you and leave you breathless, or spectacularly go down in flames with her high risk high reward attitude.

This kind of unpredictability is gold for a spectator. Must see TV. Haha
What is so funny is that Sasha was kind of a trainwreck in her Worlds LP and she WON it!!!! This young woman needs to be at the Olympics.

I've felt this way, too. It might be a result of the many difficult changes to the program like adding a 3A, 4S, and a 4T-3T at different points and not having the time to match everything to the music. I think the jump layout we saw last weekend is roughly what they're going to stick with for the rest of the season so the team can make more of an effort improving the timing and choreography.

And yet no one can do a 4-4 combination. Quads are all fun and games, but we wouldn't see so many falls if it would be so easy to evolve the jumping part of the sport. You have only one or two people in the whole world that are actually consistent with quads (and they're males). And any time a fall happens it kinda ruins the whole program. At least for me personally.

I think it's possible for men to do 4-4 and even quint in competition. Male skater don't looked like they peaked in efficiency. If there were as many men skating as women, we'd already have quints.

Kostner was also a much more seasoned performer in terms of choreography, interpretation, musicality, and had significantly better skating skills. Much more power.

I'm not saying any of this is Valieva's fault. She's 15 years old. She's incredibly talented, and she may well win the Olympics.
But her Bolero program ain't it.

I saw none of this in her version though. She was just slow. With little jumps. Unless this was done on purpose?

Last night I dreamed Sasha accidentally jumped a 4A after her cantilever during her SP at Skate America, and the judges gave her zero points for it because of the no-quads-in-the-SP-for-women rule, and then everyone was furious and booing at them but I had a sore throat and couldn't yell with the rest of the audience. It was very frustrating. The 4A was gorgeous though, and Sasha seemed super happy.

Just wanted to share in case this dream turns out to be a prophecy of some sort ^^'

This theoretical accident would indeed result in 0 points for the jump. But ISU would have to issue a statement if the TechCom accepts the jump as landed. The Wikipedia may be updated upon.

wait hahaha I also had a figure skating dream last night! I dreamt that Kamila debuted a new Giselle FS at Skate Canada. She had this stunning dress on (I think my brain stole it from Miko Fogarty's Giselle costume, if anyone knows it)--the program was gorgeous and I was devastated when I woke up and realized it wasn't real life :ROFLMAO: but who knows maybe this will be a prophecy of some sort too....

All of this talk about program swapping and my own personal opinions about bad costuming has made me really want to put away the current drawing I’m working on to create a Russian ladies series with program concepts and costumes that I would envision for each of them. Don’t think I would change all of them, I actually like the choices made for Maia, Sasha, and Anna this season. Especially Anna’s FS and Maia’s SP. Daria’s I’d need to see in competition. But Kamila and Aliona..
